  • bea-fucking-utiful

  • Brian May is indeed so wonderful.

  • Tenacious D has a song on their new album called 39'. Reading the tracklist reminded me of this legendary song! I'm assuming it's going to be a cover.

  • at 1:43...a breast with 3 nipples!!!! HAHAHAHA

  • i loved this song eva since i could remember.

  • I love this song!!

  • For the longest time when I heard this song I though it refered to the brave and selfless British soldiers who went off to fight against the conquest of Europe by the National Socialists at the beginning of World War II. I though it refered to them securing liberty for future generations ("in the lands that our granchildren knew"). Oh well, you live and learn. Queen is by far my all time favorite band and I have found personal meaning in each and every one of their songs.

  • @jamesdeanspyder lol when i read your post i was reading the quote and tahts the part of the song i was at

  • I hope I'm not the only one who cried when I heard this song alone !

  • queen is better than beatles

  • @CamilaSimont That's hard to say that. The Beatles sold more records. I love them both.

  • I found this on my dad's Ipod and I love it.

  • Man do I love this song! It tends to get overlooked, what with it sharing an album with Bohemian Rhapsody but I love it!

    Wardy

  • Another mistake...you put gray, it should be grey..it's an English song not an American one...don't you think it's time you corrected your errors?

  • @spacecowboy7580 Not really. They're little mistakes.

  • Comment removed

  • @spacecowboy7580 who gives a shit? (other than you)

  • @spacecowboy7580 it is a song about space travel. Americans went to the moon. The English did not. It thus shall be gray and not grey.

  • @dhbiza

Americans went to the moon...are you sure about that?

I know I'm sure it's grey, not gray, just as it's aluminium not aluminum.

There's a saying in America that has me in stitches, it's..I COULD care less...just dissect that and see how ridiculous it is.

  • The Mago de Oz's Song "Resacosix en la barra" is a copy of THIS song.

  • I heard this on the radio about an hour ago always liked and never knew who did it Thanks for posting!

  • for my life, still ahead, pity me.

  • this song is about einsteins theory of special relativity! brian may wrote it and has now completed a PHD in astrophysics :)

  • i would never even attept to listen to an old folk song called '39- but its fucking queen.

  • I think I'm i love with this song... O_O I'm listening it all day... I LOVE IT!!! <3

  • What is really cool is it's a story of space travelers looking for a new world I thought is was about fisherman when I was younger.

  • @64flh lol "sailed across the milky seas"- It would have made sense :)

  • If all folk music was like this I would listen to it

But as it stands, it isn't

  • This song is amazing on so many levels. I want to tell anyone with 3:32 to spare to give a listen - I'd think they'd agree.

  • que pedazo de canción señores!! AGUANTE QUEEN PAPA!!!

  • I only wish it could take us back to the IMF crisis of 1976

  • how can a song be so... so... oh, I haven't got enough words to describe it xD

  • Cracking tune, sounds like....yet unlike Queen

  • Comment removed

  • this song is about space travle. should be dedicated to the final shuttle mission.

  • brian <3

  • Wow. This song is astounding! <3

  • 39 = Epic

  • This song tends to get overlooked and overshadowed on the 'Night at the Opera' album, but it is a great song nontheless. "Night at the Opera" as a whole is still one of my all time favorites.

  • I love how Roger<3 does the falsetto in the beginning=D

  • Nothing could be better than Queen! I think this song is the best song from 20th century! Lady Gaga? Justin Bieber? They are just jokes compared to Queen!

  • Metallica is better...but Brian may... <3 :D:

  • @1Allles Metallica better??? Sorry man, I'm a huge Metallica fan, James Hetfield is one of the persons I admire most, but we have to accept one thing, no matter which band is your favorite, no matter which is your favorite kind of music (my favorite is Metal, my favorite band would be Iron Maiden) we have to accept that Queen is the best band of all times

  • @QueEEnfAN1 Naaa, sorry ;)

  • @1Allles Get out this video comments! (i like Metallica but isn't better!!!!!!!) >:(

  • when the first time I listened this music, I didnt understand English but I certainly felt something nostalgic. this is still my favorite song of Queen.

  • Funny, when I read the line "Never looked back, never feared, never cried, I always thought they were singing "never cracked" instead of never looked back. Never looked back seems to have too many syllables.

  • My Science teacher plays queen each time we take a major test it really helps

  • 2 people never heard the call

  • @TheLordHighlander good one dude.

  • You did get a few words wrong, but overall it's an amazing song and a nice video.

If you don't mind me being a snob, you misspelled "volunteers" and instead of "sigh", it should be "sight".

  • @Dancerpaw I don't mind at all. :) I do tend to misspell words in my videos, especially my older ones. Sorry about that.

  • @Dancerpaw

    How anal are you ?

  • @37zeus37 Um, not anal at all. I was just trying to say what the lyrics actually were, just in case people cared. It IS a lyrics video, after all.

  • Admittedly not the most fun song from Queen (such as "Fat Bottomed Girls" "We Will Rock You" or "We Are the Champions") I must say that '39 is definitely the most touching and sentimental songs Queen has ever produced.

  • @HOTTIUSMAXIMUS And Love Of My Life too

  • I cry every time I hear this song.

  • dude the doors if thats 3 doors down ur wrong more like beatles

because the doors used a song for fruit of the loom clothes

  • @ivanravenski They meant The Doors... Like, Jim Morrison's The Doors..

  • You say Lady Gaga, I say The Doors

You say Hannah Montana, I say The Rolling Stones

You say Owl City, I say Led Zeppelin

You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles

You say Justin Bieber, I say Queen

You say Taylor Swift, I say AC/DC

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up and copy & paste it to at least five videos. Don't let the spirit of rock and roll die

  • That was on purpose dumbass you don't know old english spellings

  • i like this song but 1 time u spelled never "ne'er"

  • @UknownLoneWolf maybe because they do sing ne'er

  • @UknownLoneWolf fucking dumbass bitch

  • In the year of '75 there was a legendary band: THE QUEEN!!!!

  • @caroamicotiscrivo92

Let's make a band and write a song like that XD

  • Comment removed

  • Utter class.

  • thankyou. a haunting, beautiful song, original, evocative *sp*, BUT what else would you expect?

  • Brian of course is now a world class cosmologist / astrophysicist. I believe the song's premise is the fact that a spaceship, which accelerates towards the speed of light, will age less rapidly than the planet left behind. A ship that curves around and returns to it's place of debarkation, will find the people who remained, to have aged faster.

  • @famat161 Thats how they did it!.

  • @famat161 yeah, I saw a bit of a documentary here on youtube which had the band members explaining that that is what the song's about.

  • every time i listen to 1 queen song i have to listen to 100 more, that's how i know they're the best

  • Incredible song<3'

  • bella bella bella!!!

  • beautiful song.

    very nice!

  • Brian sings this song veryyyyy good!

    Queen rocks :') ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • Brian May was always upset that Queen did not release a sample or single to the radio stations for '39. Too many great songs from "A Night at the Opera." Rare problem.

  • could anyone explain what is the song all about??

    seems really...dreamy

    beautiful

  • @beyondgirl '39 is considered as a sci-fi folk song basically about a guy going to outer space to discover new lands. He came back after a year in space but due to time dilation, at earth's time it has already been 100 years. And hence the loneliness.. :l but very very beautiful. Hope that helped.:)

  • @Msjmsc thank you very much!

    :-)

  • @Msjmsc I've always imagined thought it was about early pioneers exploring the earth in tall ships in the 1500's or sometime like that. Same principle, I guess! Makes it seem sadder than if it was in space for some reason!

  • @weirdunclebob When I first heard the song, the image in my mind was also different from the space concept.. But you're right, same principle applies.:)

  • @Msjmsc first time i heard it, i was reminded of the commercial for the ranma 1/2 movie at the end of my pokemon VHS, and that movie had pirate ships and stuff. so i had a similar thought about it, sailing the seas. So not only is this a fantastic song, it kinda has a warm nostalgic feeling for me.

  • @weirdunclebob 1539? that has a nice ring to it. i think its about both, saying he misses you and when hes back he wont really be back, ya know? "write your letters in the sand" meaning when i arrive by ship ill see them. "many years havee passed though im older but a year" meaning only a year has passed but he's a different person now. "in the land that our grandchildren knew" meaning in this new land i found for you. knew sings better then will know. LOL, great song either way

  • could anyone explain what is the song all about??

    seems really...dreamy

    beautiful

  • @beyondgirl It's about the difference between the time here and the time in space. Some people went to outer space. When they came back, they thought they've been away for a year, but on earth, it was a hundred years. So all their friends and family were gone. Quite sad song

  • Oops, didn't see Msjmsc already answered. Nevermind :)

  • One of the best, off that album, I think.

    Thanks for doing the lyrics.

  • @mm1fho Your welcome. :)

  • a rather old song to be talking about space travel and time-dilation...

  • quizás sea junto al revolver de los BEATLES el mejor disco de musica moderna, TODAS LAS CANCIONES SON EXCELENTES FREDDIE FOREVER

  • What would be awesome is if a ship actually did touch down on Earth someday in 2039, the volunteers come out and see their world destroyed.

Queen would officially be the greatest band ever, someone tries to prove me wrong I'd just be like, "They predicted the motherfucking future (and the past...kinda)! Point is, the prophecy has been fulfilled bitch!" *punch face*

  • ive got this on vinyl :)

  • You are officially awesome. :D

  • haha thanks :D

  • @weirdnproud117 I am also awesome but i dont got it on vinyl

  • Haha, I do too.

Somewhere stored in a box somewhere, is the entire collection of Queen albums on vinyl, and in yet another box is a record player that might not even work any longer. I must go look for it now. :)

  • @Motoko97 i have this on vinyl too, and i'm 15 xD

  • @Dizzyxeyes I'm 13 :P

  • @Motoko97 you are officially ace :D

  • @Motoko97 O man, that must be great

  • @QueEEnfAN1 You got that, it IS! XD

  • @Motoko97

    same :) :)

  • @htjones93 And it's awesome ^^ The vinyl is a little old though.. XD

  • @Motoko97 where do you get it?

  • @Thebluesrock1 A night at the opera is really easy to get your hands on. Just google it ^^

  • @Motoko97 I have my vinyl copy sitting right here next to me. Mostly because my turntable sits right behind my screen when I'm on my laptop.

  • and that comes from the heart with much affection, its not a diss

  • PAKKA34 hi, i was hooked on queen when i 1st saw them on TOTP with

7 C's of Rhye, and saw them live in 1977

every thing they did what i affactionatley call "PRE HAIR CUT" was truly unbeatable

like the white queen and my all time best The Prophet song, much as i love rhapsody, TPS blows it away, so cleverly written n put together, and prossession, on Q2 what more could you want, dont they sold out, queen died with freddie,

  • queen 1 queen2 Sh H A and the home album of this song A Night At the Opera,

    queen at their very best

  • @emjay946i agree u must include n ot w many people say they are queen fans and just know the hits if they delve a little they would know how truly great they were and i think brian and roger are sellouts and damaged queens rep with what they do now

  • its about space travelers who dont realize Einstein's theory of twin paradox and come back home 100 years later after its only been 1 year to them, thier loved ones gone in a land that thier grandchildren knew. Its an extreemly sad song!

  • @Colossus3999 is the land that thier grandchildren knew Heaven?

  • No, it's the future. The song was written about men travelling into space and coming back to a different time. If you move too far away from earth, time is different, so if you went when you were 25 into deep space and returned when you were 26, the rest of planet would have aged more. It's crazy! The land that their grandchildren knew is just the future that they live in.

  • i think u got the wrong lyrics.....

    but very nice song :)

  • I got the lyrics from the album booklet. So...

  • @weirdnproud117 I thought it was "The sweetest sighT ever seen"? Though, good work :) This song is great.

  • @weirdnproud117 There were a few minor errors, though nothing too drastic. Maybe they were wrong in the booklet?! Good job, anyway. This song makes me want to cry, sing, laugh, mourn... very powerfully emotional for me. The verses seem so sad, melancholy and heart-wrenching yet the chorus is so uplifting! One of the first songs I learnt to play on the guitar and sing at the same time and still takes me straight back to '78 when I was 13. =D

  • @weirdnproud117 I've got that booklet too and I think there are a little different lyrics. Strange.

  • @weirdnproud117 LOOOOOOL

  • Comment removed

  • such a sad song this is....most of Brian May's songs have this feeling of the emotonal statue of "lose"

  • this song reminds me of the story sarah plain and tall

  • i love Brian

  • One of my favorite Queen songs, and the only song I know of based on Einstein's "twin paradox". Very cool.

  • amazing song. brian sings it very good.

  • love this song

  • Love Freddie and Queen. But I don't know why the voice doesn't seem me Freddie's voice.

  • Fred's not singing the verses, he sings in the chorus.

But Brian May is singing the verses (the guitar player)

  • Thank you, I know very well Freddie's voice so I knew that it's not the voice of the song but in the meanwhile I didn't know that there are Queen's songs not singed by Freddie.

    Thank you

  • brian is singing are you def

  • because its Brian Mays
