  • Great stuff! I was 17 and it reminds me of a girl I knew then. She's probably a Gran by now aargh!!

  • Denise Marsa was the singer on this one. DF couldn't sing for his supper.

  • And some of use now swap emails with Denise. Well an email, but she still took the trouble to respond.

And her CD on iTunes (Self) is wonderful. Have a listen.

  • Still love it after 33 years. My only regret is that Dean did'nt stick with Lisa cos (for me) Denise has the most beautiful voice and is stunning. Oh and check out the Flares on the Sax player, happy days:)

  • what a load of pish

  • just seen Dean live a few hours ago playing in Edinburgh synagogue. Did 3 songs, this one, Lydia and one about a million matzo balls.

  • If Dean didnt have that big tash you wouldnt be able to tell one from the other.

  • love this song so nostalgic memories of better times thanks deano and denise

  • Dean Friedman's 2011 Tour Aug thru Oct. Order Tickets & CD's online and join Dean's email list at deanfriedman . com

  • Always liked this song, from an era when music meant something.

  • "Ariel" had interesing lyrics and they were quite rude.

  • what is the girl up to? check out The Music Mentor TV on youtube

  • Her life is bringing so many to Christ! Denise Matthews, I commend you my Sister!

  • what a song...i might not be all that bright, but i know how to hold you tight... :)

  • Did you see Lisa?

  • This noise has been voted one of the irritating ever recorded, and seeing the video, i can say adds to the horror of the experience. I cannot watchand listen more than 30 seconds. There are some very odd people out there. perhaps an accountant or a nail technician would own a copy.

  • Probably the most underrated song of the 70s, which I remembered hearing as a school leaver.

  • ... listen hun, I know you're dumb, but that's okay, you don't have to look so glum - great lyrics to start a fight with!!!!

  • @griffo1968

    brilliant !

  • nice to hear this again...love it

  • Reminds me of my 1st love, she had bad taste in music including a tape full of corny songs that she'd play over and over, this track was included on the tape but it stood out, i liked it from the off. I mentioned that i liked the track but she did not....

  • Love it.......

  • WE can all thank our lucky stars this record is dead and burried

  • He looks like the legend porn star John holmes

  • beautiful clever song!!

  • "They reckon that I am, but I hope to God I'm not...." watch?v=CZdclBmO5oQ

  • I'm torn between these two couplets as my nomination for the lyrical hall of fame -

"She still goes around as if / She's always stumbling off a cliff" and "I may not be all that bright, but I know how to hold you tight". I've heard a lot of lyrics since 1978. but I still can't get those two classics out of my head.

Paste the following into google for a link a recent interview b00szzsn#synopsis

  • Cheesier than a ton of Cheddar but i still love it!!

  • Heard this on Magic 1278 this morning and realized I still knew all the lyrics. How some songs stick in your mind for years! Love it!

  • deans song was one of the first i really noticed....................so glad i did

  • peter and bright's song

  • horrible the lyrics come straight from dean friedmans anus

  • @Goatsby and you're a prick but hey!!!!

  • Tacheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • i couldnt decide which was the guy!!

  • @iloveyouhunny The guys the one without the 'tache!! :P

  • @Richieman11 hmmmm ....

  • this is absolutely crap

  • bickering and arguing.... in a song...what a genius

  • Yes this may be a bit cheesy but its from an era we look back at and remember just how good things were great song and memories.

  • You're exactly right.. Cheesy as France but brings back so many memories!

  • @shelley101112 its horrendous

  • Look, your a long time dead, let it bring back the memories of yesteryear, they will never come back so enjoy it for what it is,- great stuff.

  • Still with the same man I shared this song with.Lovely memories thanks.

  • When he was at school as well as a fan club he had a Dean Haters club

  • Love the sax playing too.

  • I was 21 and working in a touring circus...met a girl and this song had a lot of connections to us back then, yes its cheesy but its a story and its a story that happens to people every day...it you haven't lived the story you just haven't lived..

  • All music is subjective - you either like it or you don't - if you don't like it, why are you listening to it on here and why do you feel the need to slag it off?. It's not my particular favourite genre of music but it is well crafted and enjoyable to a lot of people - if you don't like it, don't listen to it...

  • I heard the interview with George Michael slagging off this songs lyrics, a bit rich coming from the guy who wrote last christmas and wake me up before you go go.

  • well said

  • This is a great song. Friedman's voice is not beautiful, but his song is.

  • I have been trying to track this song down for months I knew it was 'Stars' something then an interview with George Micheal, who is legend, hates it with a passion gives me the the details, I would like to thank for this and for being a true a star.

  • There's nothing wrong with the song, after all it is a song. Ok so it's not up there with the likes of today's music but it is sung very well. I like it....

  • this is the cheesiest thing i have ever heard, and not in a good way.......well kind of in a good way

  • Perhaps not the cheesiest I'd guess, but love it enought to make it a 'favourite'. Check out Lionel Richie's song 'Hello!' Now that's got to be the cheesiest - ad nauseum!

  • Arn't we a ray of fucking sunshine, what a sad life you must lead to find time posting on here about your dislikes.

  • fully agree, good song to like

  • Im glad to hear that in not the only person who likes this song

  • shit reallt but it sticks in the mind

  • Ahh the good old days! when Musical ability was more important than image, now its all image and no substance!

  • What do you mean image was not important? We spent loads of money having our hair permed and buying cloths.

Great Music still sounds so good!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this tune. Songs for Grownups is one of my fave albums. (This is not on it). I was serving in NI when this came out and was dating diane, we used to sort of sing this together. We married had kids and divorced. I was not as smart as I thought I was!

  • I just got back from watching Dean in concert in Newark, Uk, pure class.

  • A tash worthy of low quality German pornography. Congratulations Dean.

  • Wow! I grew up in the NY suburbs and never heard of Dean until I was stationed in England in the late 70s and heard this song on Radio One and loved it! Now my wife loves it too and we're big Deano fans. I'm really happy that he's a big hit in the UK but can't wait until he comes to Florida! Haven't seen this since Top of the Pops. Thanks for posting it!

  • I remember hearing this when I was 7 on BBC Radio 2! Wow! Great song...and Dean also did the music for Boon as well.

  • i was 14 when this was out,God happy days.Love this song so much.

  • 1978 Classic! Hit No. 3 in UK Charts!

  • Hey Deano, this and Lydia are 2 of my all-time favourite songs. Pure class!

  • Dean duets with janey lee grace on this fine song on TOTP 2 and its bloody RUINED by the talentless cow!

  • Woa! Haven't heard this one in over 30 years believe it or not. Still one of those neet little guilty pleasures for the ears to feast on.

  • why is his song not available on i-tunes.I've been checkin it out for ages and it's not on anywhere!

  • crameri - because itunes is fucking useless and crap! Avoid anything APPLE at all costs and it usually costs you all.

  • If you put in "youtube ipod converter" into your search engine you will find loads of free programmes for you to download it straight from you tube ...FREE

  • I have just heard this on the radio ..had to google it to find out what it was called cos i aint heard it for years ....it's still a good one though

  • why does this song always get a slagging,i love it, mind you im a bit of a dinasaur

  • we seen him at princess pavillons , Falmouth last nite. Brilliant nite of entertainment.Fab!!

  • I was going to go and see him on Sun 12th July at my local theatre in Paignton, however only 6 tickets sold, mine would have been 7.

  • Don't be silly - he sells out most shows via his own site - the theatre would only have had a few tickets - you should go - fab night out.

  • Hmm, Ben Stiller must've been watchin this and taking notes for his role in 'Dodgeball'..

  • WAHAHA! This is hilarious!

Thanks again to The Aussie Late Show for showing this on their countdown classics back in 1992.

By the way, I forgot to say, your endearing other called today. Did you see lisa? Yes I saw lisa. Is that why angry? I wasnt angry. Maybe a little. Not even maybe. Must be the weather. Now dont be a baby.

Do you still love me? Yes, I still love you. You mean, youre not just being nice. No, Im not just being nice. Do you feel sleepy.

  • Hey Folks,

I'll be doing a 40 city UK/Ireland Tour July thru Oct.

Check deanfriedman site for tour-dates and tix.

    Enjoy the music,

    Deano

  • blub! Still no tour date for Derby !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • me and my dad made a "sad songs" cd...

    this was on it

    great song

  • fantastic !!

    memories of 1978

  • the 2 of them look like a couple of little borrowers on a dolls playhouse piano at the beginning. Always thought she had a sexy voice (even though I was prob 6 at the time).

  • Absoutel CLASSIC !!

a tale of two lovers.... this song reflects on many relationships.

a great love ballad... thanks for the posting DeniseMarsaFan

  • What a great song....two lovers keeping it real! I like that!

  • Does nobody else find this totally hilarious?

  • if you think this is funny check out twobobtv and their version..lol

  • I so need this as an mp3...had it on my old computer and lost it when it crashed...anyone know where I can download it?

  • this and elo out of the blue and abba dancing queen fron 2 years b4 are my childhood i was 10yo then tanx 4 posting had to look on yahoo to find artist , anyone who calls abba gay no nothing

  • Thanks for posting - this is such a classic from my childhood and never seen them perform it before!

  • I'm looking at my vinyl copy bought when it was released. The artist is "Dean Friedman" - no mention of Denise!!!

  • that was the record companys fault, not Deans. he wanted it to be an equel credit.

  • I find this song is strangely compelling. It's very much an "art song". It presents a mundane -- almost conversational -- lyric.

It's inanity in a pop music format.

Perhaps Dean wanted some mogul to hire him to write the songs for a Broadway musical and this was his public audition?

  • try finding the dehli song by dean friedman

  • I was told that this song was really vomit inducing... but actually I really like it. It's very of it's time and has transported me back to the Carly Simon, James Taylor seventies era. Dean Friedman was clearly a very seminal song writer.

  • 10/10 for the porno tash

  • cheesetastic!

    see also /watch?v=MXxuNNAdwjo

  • 3:08 is total cheesetastic

  • This song will live forever

  • pure cheese but love it unashamedly

  • is he a scouser ??

  • No. He's from New Jersey but I did see him at the Cavern Club in Liverpool on Saturday just gone :)

  • cool. would of loved to of seen Dean on his recent tour but i just couldnt get .....maybe next time!

  • This is utter rubbish. Imagine a bowl of moulten feaces poured over your face for all eternity. That would be infinately better than this complete cak !

  • yeah just imagine!!! and hey then they might set!!! like concrete and encase your big mouth forever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seems odd that you would end up watching a video for something that you so despised.

    And it's "molten"

    And it's "faeces"

    And it's "infinitely"

And most people would spell it "cack"

    Otherwise an excellently composed comment.

  • This is one of those songs that grows on you as you get older. I remember hearing it for the first time about 20 yards away from the very spot I'm typing this, nearly thirty years ago. I hated it with a passion back then because it was so dull and gloomy-sounding. Not any more though. Given I was only seven years old at the time, I probably didn't understand the lyrics.

  • Same here! Heard it on Radio 2 at work, so thought I'd listen again and see what Dean Friedman actually looked like as I always imagined him looking like Woody Allen!

  • This was played on BBC Radio 2 today. I just had to call my girl friend and tell her I love her after hearing this song. As we had a big fight last night about my ex!!!

  • Yeah, Iheard it 2, thought I'd play it through again!

  • I love you too. It made me cry when I heard it. Thank you dear.

  • Yeah, I heard a Jewish duck quacking on a frozen lake and it reminded me of Dean Friedman. I immediately tried get a contract put out on Dean's head.

  • Even anybody remembers Bexley North 1979, Marc and Jo then this is for them.

  • seamless

  • heard this on the radio today , i loved this song when it first came out.

years on it still sounds fresh and such brilliant lyrics

    thanks for posting

  • Tony Bell and Cheryl do a great cover version of this song

  • hey chaddyendunder..its that big tash that does it. come on be honest..or is is it that nice perm?

  • "well slide over here!!!!" Oh Dean, how can a girl refuse?

    pass me the bucket!

  • A great guy. Looks a lot more distinguished now and still sounds just as good. He's doing a uk tour at the moment

  • one of the first records i brought ah good times

  • i was wondering where my ferret escaped to

  • Girl: Did you see Lisa?

    Guy: Yes, I saw Lisa

Girl: Is that why you're angry?

    Guy: I wasn't angry

    Girl: Maybe a little?

Guy: Look, if you don't stop this petty inquisition right now, i'm going to pound this coffee cup against your cranium until you bleed from your toes, OK?

    Girl: Must be the weather.

  • I love this song so much. Played it a lot lately. Lydia is wonderful too. Denise Marsa's voice works so well with Deans. Ah I'm such a hopeless romantic. Thank you for making it available to us 8-)

  • Me too, I mean I love this song so much and hopeless romantic aswell, not very good at it though.........

  • Or as the legendary Half Man Half Biscuit sang "..and you can thank your lucky stars that you're not the bastard son of Dean Friedman, the bastard son of Dean Friedman"

  • You can thank your lucky stars that you don't have a ludicrous moustache that makes you look like some sort of spaniel, and a voice like Big Bird out of Sesame Street :D

    ONLY JOKING

    OR AM I?

  • What are they saying in this song? We are simple but in love?? LOL

  • i was 16 when i first hured this and its this that will be played at my cremashtion

  • Great song. Great voices. Shame they end up looking like porn stars with the goofy hairstyles and dangerous bellbottoms.
