Use peppermint oil. Non-toxic, and will stop the ants, (along with sealing up stuff like the snacks.

i had pet ants at the last office i worked, 3 stories up. i say "pets" because i fed them to spite the jerk landlord that let us fry at 90deg inside summer temps rather than run up his AC bill
