This album was great, but was recorded during a very stressful time for the Journey fans. Journey was broken apart and scattered to the winds. Steve was doing his solo work and the other guys were in bands like Bad English and The Storm. All we wanted back then was for Journey to get back together and stay together. We would see them reunite in 1996's Trial by Fire, but it would be short lived.

In comparison to Journey's music now and when Steve was in the band ,one cannot possibly compare the two. His vocals were not only unbelievable but his songwriting was what made the band great !!!!! The albums since he left have been anything but great ,with maybe one or two songs that come close to the old day's magic . None of their new stuff has any hook ,and that is what makes a hit . It takes amazing talent to 'sing 'a ballad so emotively as Steve Perry. The new singer for New Journey as I call that band now is 'a voice'. Perry has, undoubtedly, one of the best voices EVER. It is just too bad his ego matched and he thought he was better than the band itself, therefore leaving his mates with no alternative but to move on without him. He, unfortunately, remains out of the current music loop while his mates continue on. Too bad their getting back together is out of the question, but Arnel, with his enthusiasm and voice, fills the necessary void nicely.

@1danrobbins Arnel fills the void yes but not nicely at all compared to steve perry. Arnel does not have the range and control that Perry did. and Steve Perry did not leave because of his ego at all. He was nothing before Journey and he understood that. He left initially because his mother was dying and he coulndt handle the stress of caring for his mother and being in the band. The second time he left was because he had severe hip trouble and while he was recovering the band moved on

I am not in no way complaining about that direction. It produced some great, wonderfully, well done ,memorable songs. I just believe Perry's aggressive behavior and ego eventually rubbed Schon the wrong way. Undoubtedly, the band cannot and never will attain the success it did when Perry was with them.

He really put allot of years on his voice 30-40 years of reaching impossible ranges and stressful singing holding notes and trilling. Sincerely he was a very special vocalist. And he has made the greatest impression to a community of people who love him more than anyone in music.

One can only say he is "One of a Kind" and we have to appreciate and try to learn something from everything he did to achieve a life for ourselves and say we will always LOVE you cause you where our time and memory.
