Thats why the british started carpet bombing, while the Americans (in the earlier missions at least) were trying to pinpoint industrial facilities in daylight missions. It's not a fail to learn, it is a different (more humane for cilvilians if you want) way of getting the job done.
My mom spent the last year of WW2 in the RAF (the war went on so long she got old enough to join up) & at the base she was at saw quite a few B17's, Lancasters, other planes so shot to pieces it was unbelievable they had made it back. But she already knew how good the German AF was, they turned huge sections of her hometown into a big pile of rubble she said for her being bombed was the worst thing anyone could go through.

The ACDC music impies this is a cool clip, but it just doesn't do justice to these men who did their duty, fought for my freedom and didn't return. Just go to a allied war grave (or watch pic's on the net) and you might reconsider to use your talents in making other vids. No hard feelings mate.

OK, I follow up, 25 years of age after finnishing the training I got my wartime orders, if that would ever happen, looking at them I shaked my head. 35 year of age I decided sielntly to play dumb and join whatever resistance there was. The orders were stupid. 40 years of age I was written off, so it was not a problem anymore. Youth = stupid. Age = time to reflect. I gladly sign a paper where you are sent to the frontline.

Think of the families that died in the bombing raids. The soldiers knew what they are going to do and to risk. Children and women that burned and suffercated in Bunkers and basements didn't give their signature to die in war. Neither English or Germans or Russians. Does anybody know something about the bombing raid of Dresden '45? The city was filled with civilians and refugees, Germany was on the ground and was already beaten and allied bombers levelled a defenceless city with tens of thousands of civilians killed.
when there are bombings, civilians will be killed but it is their fault. in fact, civilians were usually told to evacuate but never did. it is the civilians choice to stay in a WAR ZONE.
Where do you want to go when you live in a city and alert comes only a few hours or minutes before the raid begins? SS also killed surrendering civilians. It's not as easy as you imagine. Try to get out of a city like Dresden within a few minutes and you will see that you won't come far until you hear the planes going to level you and your city.

actually it's a fact that each passing war has seen more civilian casualties than the one before, as a percentage of overall casualties, in WW1 it was something like 25%, in WW2 it was around 50%, the Gulf war and since has seen that rise to over 60% against total casualties. For all the 'smart' weaponry, war is still about demoralising the enemy forces, and that means hurting his wife and kids. Believe me when I say, war sucks, and the sooner we learn to stop fighting the better.

When the allies bombed Dresden it was to put the fear of god into the Germans that similar actions would result in a very painful price. Dresden was simply a revenge attack serving no military use.

No amount of motivation was going to help the German army by the time Dresden was bombed. It was Germany that dropped the first bombs on civilians. I know this was also done while trying to hit targets essential to the war but it was still a game changer. I also find it funny that the German people might argu such a topic concidering the millions of lives lost implementing the final solution. We also cant forget the Bombing of Guernica.
There were reasons for the raid on Dresden. I'd go into them but Youtube's character counts wouldn't allow me to finish what i started. All i'll say is Dresden was levelled for a reason. If blasting it to hell had a shot at shortening preceeding i'd have given it a try.

@GilbMLRS first of all the smart bomb did not exist back then. to bomb a exact target and not hit something else in the way was very hard to do. in order to save many thousands of lives we had to do those bombings. if you think you could have hit only military targets and not hit a civilian area then you are nuts. secondly we didnt start that war or want it.

No they couldn't. Thats aerodynamically and physically impossible. They could fly with extensive damage, but the drag, both aerodynamic and gravitational, would down a B17 with 1 wing.
well it may be impossible for the b-17 but in the test flights for the f-15 it hit a f-86 and lost a wing and landed safely afterwards so its not completely impossible

OK, I follow up, 25 years of age after finnishing the training I got my wartime orders, if that would ever happen, looking at them I shaked my head. 35 year of age I decided sielntly to play dumb and join whatever resistance there was. The orders were stupid. 40 years of age I was written off, so it was not a problem anymore. Youth = stupid. Age = time to reflect. I gladly sign a paper where you are sent to the frontline.

Hitler only wanted to avoid a two fronted war but he also planned to invade GB. Because of Goering (that fat faggot) and his stupid decisions british Radar was in use all the time and the air battle went wrong so the invasion was cancelled.

Germany began the war and the bombing of civilians, it did it in Guernica, Warsaw, Rotterdam, London and so on. Cities that DID have innocent children as well. Britain as well as America did bombed civilians; nobody that has read a bit about WWII will deny that. the huge difference was that one side killed civilians in order to conquer them and the other in order to liberate them.

Think of the families that died in the bombing raids. The soldiers knew what they are going to do and to risk. Children and women that burned and suffercated in Bunkers and basements didn't give their signature to die in war. Neither English or Germans or Russians. when there are bombings, civilians will be killed but it is their fault. in fact, civilians were usually told to evacuate but never did. it is the civilians choice to stay in a WAR ZONE.

Where do you want to go when you live in a city and alert comes only a few hours or minutes before the raid begins? SS also killed surrendering civilians. It's not as easy as you imagine. Try to get out of a city like Dresden within a few minutes and you will see that you won't come far until you hear the planes going to level you and your city.

actually it's a fact that each passing war has seen more civilian casualties than the one before, as a percentage of overall casualties, in WW1 it was something like 25%, in WW2 it was around 50%, the Gulf war and since has seen that rise to over 60% against total casualties. For all the 'smart' weaponry, war is still about demoralising the enemy forces, and that means hurting his wife and kids. Believe me when I say, war sucks, and the sooner we learn to stop fighting the better.

@GilbMLRS You have to remember Germany was responsible for two world wars in the space of 20 years, killing approx 100 million people. When the allies bombed Dresden it was to put the fear of god into the Germans that similar actions would result in a very painful price. Dresden was simply a revenge attack serving no military use.
Did it work? Germany has been peaceful for the last 65 years. Was it worth it? History will judge

Germany was peaceful because it received economic aid and a new constitution which made it harder for extreme parties to gain power. THAT was the reason for Germany being peaceful what was after WW1? The Allies just disgraced Germany which led to frustration combined with the big crash it was juicy grass for the war-sheep.

Yes the fleeing people that lived in Dresden were the ones that started the war. The children and women started the war. Why didn't they fight the soldiers instead of burning the innocent? No amount of motivation was going to help the German army by the time Dresden was bombed. It was Germany that dropped the first bombs on civilians. I know this was also done while trying to hit targets essential to the war but it was still a game changer. I also find it funny that the German people might argu such a topic concidering the millions of lives lost implementing the final solution. We also cant forget the Bombing of Guernica.

No they couldn't. Thats aerodynamically and physically impossible. They could fly with extensive damage, but the drag, both aerodynamic and gravitational, would down a B17 with 1 wing.

well it may be impossible for the b-17 but in the test flights for the f-15 it hit a f-86 and lost a wing and landed safely afterwards so its not completely impossible
