What I am saying is that you can EXPECT to get cut, stabbed, or shot when using ANY tactic. If anyone tells you differently then you need to steer clear of their teachings because that is not reality.
With the distance shown in the vid, it would be *much* safer to draw your weapon while dropping to a knee, take a split second to sight in, double tap, then move 2 steps to one side and drop to a shooting knee again while re-evaluating the situation for further threat. Another problem with the technique demonstrated is addressing a left handed shooter or other opponent shooting positions. Keep it simple, keep it safe.
@xs594 And you can do ALL that before he just starts pulling the trigger huh? Not to mention the likelihood of you taking him immediately out of the fight solely on the use of the gun. In the technique demonstrated there is more to it than just shooting them. I only demonstrated the “gun” portion of the tactic. You should NEVER count on the gun taking the threat immediately out of the fight!
@brian47374 that may be true.. but atleast if your attacker has a knife he has to be within arms reach to use it... if he is any further than that i can have my gun out before he can hurt me... unless again he has snuck up from behind.. in which event i will give him my wallet. ahah
@MrSEEbeeARE With all due respect this tells me that you really don't train with an attacker or you would know that you can't get your gun out & use it if an attacker is within 21 ft of you. Even if you do get your gun out at these distances you are probably going to get seriously injured or killed. Not to mention that your handgun is a VERY poor tool to get the job done. Watch the calibers & shot placement videos.
@Shaggy8675 It is a demonstration. No one said they would stand there with their hand out after you move in. It is a risk just like EVERYTHING ELSE! They are not expecting you to move, so you do have the element of surprise.
good video. i would be very scared to attempt this b/c if the attacker takes one step back, or pull the gun next to his body you better be as quick as clint eastwood to drop the threat. it is never good to have the weapon pulled on you first but if it is, this may be the only way to survive in certain "o crap" situations. thanks again a little side note i believe glocks are the best weapons for this type of conflict b/c you do not have a safety to worry about.
@ohhyeahzulu When at gunpoint at close distances creating distance is more likely to get you hurt or killed than moving in. I don't know many people that can run 800+fps. Can you? ;)
Gas airsoft guns are a great way to train. I live in Los Angeles and Im young so I cant get my permit yet. So I bought a Ksc Glock 17 and train with that.
Most people don't stand 4 feet from you when holding you at gunpoint. If you're getting mugged, best option is to give them your money instead of submitting to that "warrior mindset".
If they say they're gonna kill you, do what you can to escape/fight them, but realize that you'll probably be shot. Prepare for it and stay focused on surviving at that point. Lots of good points on the vid and I commend your efforts sir. I think this should be seen as a last ditch effort though.
There is a time and place for everything. These days you don't know what is going to happen... People kill or try to kill you without warning! Why escalate the sitaution when you don't have to?
The guy with the gun has a free hand throughout all of this though, so unless this is a very fast movement he has a chance to stop you drawing your own weapon.
Another weakness is the grab on the gun arm. Unless you grab the gun itself or the wrist, the attacker has enough freedom to re-aim and fire before you shoot.
Personally, I'd never rely on a technique where I had to draw a weapon from behind me when it is hidden under loose clothing with just one hand. Too much room for error.
There are risks involved in everything you do. Moving to the inside is a bit dangerous. But so is a lot of other firearms training! This is ONE solution of many solutions that we offer. There is more to this stuff than what is shown here. If you "grab" the gun arm, it then becomes a fight. If you lightly grab the gun arm, it does not "register" with the BG. More than likely you are going to be drawing one handed regardless of the situation.
Well, if it is life or death, you might think differently. If you know someone is going to kill you, what do you have to lose? It is the warrior mindset. This stuff takes practice and without practice you are kidding yourself about pulling anything off.
In "reality", these videos trying to teach how to counter a pistol pointed at you will get you killed. I had witnessed a cop friend (a hard core martial artist and a good shooter) who tried to do it to a perp we had an argument with. They both ended up dead. I learned a valuable lesson that day. To survive a gunfight, you must be VERY WELL ahead of the action. It is common sense that will save you.
Here is the reality of things. You can do everything right and die. And, you can do everything wrong and live. I am not saying that your COP friend did anything wrong. However, one cannot say that everyone will get killed that finds them seleves at gunpoint and try something like we have demonstrated.
Well, I am glad that you are thinking more about things now! The first video has some great tactics on it!!! The second video which is what this is taken from is going to be even better! Well, at least from an instructional standpoint. I hope to have the second one done around spring.
The samples videos that Brian has posted made me realize that I'm lacking in some very critical ways on this topic. I didn't think about any tactics & planning until now.
So I've ordered the videos & would like to thank you for creating the videos.
Try FOF where everything is dynamic.... see if this would work. Because in all likelihood, your dummy wouldn't just take it standing like a lamppost.

@bulimpact And we all know that if it works in FOF that it will work in the real deal... right?!

@brian47374 if your attacker has a knife... i say go for your weapon.. if he has a gun already out... i say just give him what he wants.
MrSEEbeeARE 1 year ago
@MrSEEbeeARE First of all, IF it is an option, give up your wallet or whatever in both instances. A knife is FAR more deadly than a handgun.

what about situation when opponent hold the weapon near the body, not in outstretched arm?

@heltanindya That's a different story. I don't know that many criminals practice gun retention techniques. ;)

it is ONE way to move. Obviously to the outside would be best, but it may not be an option for some reason.

Yeah, it all depends on the situation, but I remember reading that most self defense shootings happen at about 14 feet.
