  • Muito bom! Tomara que vocês venham para o Brasil!

  • He plays well but I like the original better, it's on the album "Rag Alhaiya Bilaval and Rag Mishra Bhairavi" (NI 5636) by Nimbus Records (it's on iTunes, search for Ram Narayan).

  • how can this have only 30,000 views.

this is quite possibly one of the most beautiful pieces of music i've ever heard.

  • perfection only to my imperfect ears

  • subhanAllah. wow.... :')

  • Enchanting!

  • first time so many likes da no dislike (sun)

  • Astonishing!

Please, dear Kronos, record several ragas and make a CD only of ragas, we implore you. Before this performance we were sure that Western musicians are unable to perform Hindustani music.

  • @lenochka2221 I would not call this Hindustani music, it is not played with the right nuances. but it is pleasant to listen to and played very well

  • Very Good

I added already some modern chords to Narajan oevre on my welcom page

and like to do this one too

  • Stop picking on me. Do you not have better things to do with your time?

  • They're playing a transcription of a Ram Narayan alap, arranged for string quartet. Dude, your ignorance is all over youtube...you really should shut up and learn. I would suggest you start by learning to read.

  • @Khalilullah - You seem to know rthese ragas

I remember one from the Pandit in India

If I play on keyboard the musical line, . .

    would you reckognize it

    It's not on Youtube

  • This became an inspiration for my novel. Thats for helping my writers block!

  • FALSE ADVERTISING using Ram Naryan's name in the title. What's the matter could you not stand on your own withthis music?

  • It is called a "SRUTI BOX", SURPETI- check out ALI AKBAR COLLEGE STORE, in the Harmonium section

  • that is a reed instrument which plays a few drone notes from which the raga unfolds.

An "Alap" is like a prayer, exploring the raga.

  • @theunknownpotter What's it called?

  • @physphilmusic Its a miniature version of something called a harmonium, i think. It was usually played by beggers on a moving train or buses back home. Imagine like a piano but without electric power. You move it forward and backwards and theres air inside which produces that noise.

  • @sgirn507 Pianos usually aren't electrically powered. They're acoustic instruments. The harmonium is different in that the piano is a string instrument and the harmonium is a woodwind instrument.

  • hey, but what's that file-like thing he's playing (the first violinist)???

  • heartbreaking...that is indeed the word...

  • what a great alap it hurts my heart.beautiful

  • the sound of souls - being torn to shreads ... a 4:00 could do with a snappy break support from a cello though :P

  • Hauntingly beautiful and transports you to another place and time, I just LOVE it.

  • If you have music inside you, you don't need it written on a pice of paper.

Indian musicians know that simple fact.

  • simply beautiful and heartbreaking.

  • A great cover of the greatest Indian musician to date.

  • agreed

  • not bad, sounds like a New Age going-to-sleep music.

doesn't get close to the real sitar & tabla thing, & the singing.

i find these Kronos adaptations of 'world music' pretentious.

  • Saw this performed last night in SF, it was absolutely beautiful.

  • Epic!!

  • hank dutt is COOL.

  • I like the style of playing, different. this is what I feel fusion in terms of style.

  • Beautiful!

  • i believe this is on e

  • well at least he IS playing it. lets look at the good things instead of finding mistakes to babble on about

  • This is an unusual way to play a tanpura.

  • Yeah, he doesn't know how to play.

  • I saw this live at Hank Dutt's Madison recital. Possibly the greatest violist alive. Beautiful playing.

  • isn't that a viola?

  • Yes. That's what I said.
