  • One of my favorite bass parts of all time, very tough indeed....

  • Nice job, I like it!!!

  • very good playing and nice sound!

  • Top Notch cover man

  • Hi There Chuck would be proud of you I am an old man 62 Fender Jazz trying to play JJ brunel of the Stanglers Nice and sleazy Can you help??

  • Tricky pieceto learn by ear, but i have to resist the ugre to lookup tabs.(have to learn how to dictate properly)

  • @MrOpticali. Listen man, you couldn't possibly read music and try to tell me there's no 16th notes on the track or in the transcription. You didn't read any transcription.

  • @MrOpticali I think that guy's pulling your chain. You nailed it! I don't hear any discernable difference from the original, but why on earth would you want to play it "exactly" like someone else? This is a more than fitting tribute.

  • Yeah, I play professionally. There's sixteenth notes all over that whole song, so keep listening to it. There's also sixteenth notes all over the transcription that Walter Becker himself wrote, so we'll have to agree that Walter Becker is probably correct given that he co-wrote the song. Do you read music? Because it's pretty obvious what the note values are.

  • It sounds good. The line is incredibly difficult. The amount of nuance on the album version is astounding. Rhythmically Rainey is in full control and never deviates. The pops in C should be played as 16th notes and the first one is on the "e". It sounds like you might be giving them to much..like turning them into slurred 8ths. Notice on the album version how clean and precise it is.don't cheat the thump on "C" When you go over to "B". The B does not start on the downbeat. Play off the drums.

  • I'm not trying to dis but that's not really accurate to how he plays it. In fact, I haven't seen anyone really get it right. If you want to play it right: The pops on the slap part aren't right on the upbeat on the C, and then your notes are in the wrong places from then on out. Your cheating on the verses and not giving the notes the right time value.

  • You've got the groove.

  • Nice work!

I've been strongly considering getting a set of the Chromes. Very ballsy sounding and solid without all the frilly little guitar overtones cluttering the sonic space. You've helped push me over the edge.

  • Great great feel, and great feel and great sound, to.

  • Why do I keep reading string reviews that claim you can't slap with flatwounds?

  • great feel...watched a lot of peg bass solo's...a lot were hitting the notes, but with no feel...you got it dude..

  • may I ask you the gauge of the strings?

  • @Pierfra007 45 - 100 ECB 81's

  • @MrOpticali, thanks a lot! now I'm using the same gauge on my Jazz Special (fretless), and I wanted to try the heavyer gauge, on the fretted one, but all the samples show a muddy sound, poor in sustain.

I guess I'll try this gauge on the fretted bass!

your sound is great, and yours is the best video for those strings ;)

  • Nice job man.

  • sounds great!

  • Awesome. I still plan on getting this band together at some point I promise
