Nobody has to like this kind of art but there's no point in making the argument that its bad art because the artist lacks technical skill. If the artist wanted the piece to be about that then that's how he would have made it. If you want to debate whether or not a piece is successful then you have to understand the artist's intentions. This piece, or the crumpled paper piece, are obviously not intended to be works of technical skill or talent so it makes no sense to critique them as such.
You people should check out A4 piece of paper crumpled into a ball! How he did it, I'll never know! I've tried it myself, but I lack his dexterity! Once upon a time, in a distant epoch, artists actually had talent. Saw this guy on the Review show, and he is an arch-cretin, making the other panelists seem like veritable doyens of cultural commentary, which they are not.
interesting idea, for about 2 mins, until you realise; is it realy that "fun" or is it realy a profound thought or concept. does it help us as humans justify or add to existance and eternity. affirming our lives in this chaotic world we live. personaly im not sure someone telling me im gonna die, in a oohh controversy, truth this truth that, way is realy that great. fair enough tho, id like to see a llittle bit more madness and a little less 2 + 2 = 4.
Work # 850 was a bizarre experience, but it made me smile.
As he said 'its about life... repitition is a comfort in an ever changing, crazy world.' And as he also states, Art doesnt need to be a tangible object. In his case it is a thought, presented with a surface and space, within which the audience can choose to become part of. I accept this as art just as i accept Michelangelo's David. Great Stuff
He says something about making art, and unmaking it... or rather there is always a space inside it; which is exactly right; all of his work resembles an empty imagination-less void
I went to the tate and put up a picture i drew in a few minutes there. I went there three weeks ago it was still there. Yes I am that good at drawing art. I have made videos my art is incredible. I did modify a few other pics.
That does not mean you are good at Art you tool that means that you are shite like the rest of them and all the plum nibblers are too stupid to see the fucking difference,
@bakeratlas You do not seem, very bright I made a joke and you thought i was being serious. I am talking to an idiot. You use the language of a low IQ individual.
sigh... thank goodness some pranksters had the sense of humour to interact with this bland tedium. All that space and time, and this was what we saw fit to waste it with? What did it communicate other than the sum of nothing? If you need a guidebook explaination to tell you how to begin to react, it's poor art. And then we wonder why public funding budgets are slashed so viciously year on year...
Gosh, that was a little racy of me, huh? ah well. I'll go have a jog to atone for all the angry critics of his work who wouldn't recognise a decent piss up or brewery with their best spectacles on.
i thought this show was fun, alive and cheeky but sincere and memorable in equal measure. If you can't get the spirit intended in these works, go to another party, look at a Manet or Rodin, and shut the fuck up.
Look at his other work, read some interviews. Why should you get this if you have never invested anytime in enjoying his work before. He is a funny talented thoughtful man. To bump into the exterior of an idea and mock it for its lack of evident value is just tiring of you. A sculpture or painting is not art as a lump of material, it needs people to value and relate to it. Why only value craftsmanship and objects people can own? Why not value gestures and impermanence?
its not the spelling of artist names that is important its the artist message and the ideas in which they express, but in creeds work. the only message i can see is that ive seen it all before. if you was wondering, ive seen his exhibition at the ikon gallery this month nov 2008 in brum and its the same crap i saw about ten years ago that he did. my over all comment on his exhibition was it took me five minutes to look at it all and i beleive thats was all the time it took to create it.
ive seen many of creeds work over the years, not by choose, his art is something that we all used to do, just to get kicked out of our art lessons and upset the teacher, its not Art just laziness out of trying to shock the viewer with cheep ideas rather than thought this is what art has become. something for nothing. modern art is not modern its over 130 years old and still old hat at that. its not shocking anymore just recycled old ideas at best. see DATAISM or MANRAY, MARCEL DECUMP
Dada was not to shcok, it was a world gone mad, of war, and civil war and man's ideas of himself and values changing. Creed's work is different. He is our contemporary. I'd like to see you speak as intelligently and produce so many wonderful works as he produces. To suggest he does it to be contrary and upset teacher, speaks more about your capabilities than his. When you've had a succesfull solo show, get in touch.
It's just another variation on the theme of artists shit. If its not in a tin, it will be in some other form if its conceptual. No Creed, its not like life. IT IS LIFE! You are stagnating in your own pretence. Go and make some real art, too much like hard work that though isnt it? Yes thats right you cannot see a thought, only in comics! No wonder he feels mixed up. Its an absolute ludicrous waste of time and space.

Your spelling of the artists' names really shows how much you know about art. Go. Learn.

But it's a Art Gallery, if my boys can't run in The Tate in Liverpool, what gives Creed that right?
dawnhilton 3 years ago
your boys arn't able to justify why they are running in an art context.
