Hard to believe that someone out there in a Hollywood casting agency actually thought Madonna could've made justice to this role. True story, Madonna turned down this film, which means that she was...WTF...offered this before Pfeiffer... Madonna would've been able to tackle the singing, but Pfeiffer deservedly got an Oscar nod for making Susie Diamond so memorably human. Plus, for all of Madonna's sexiness back in the day, Michelle absolutely burned the screen with this iconic scene.
@tommyburgos maybe it's generational, but to me, (I'm a woman, 69) Madonna has no real sex appeal at all. she wld just look her usual vulgar self trying to do this. I just broke into a great big smile when I watched this sophisticated beauty move smoothly, with warmth that even raises a woman's desire. I really appreciate this, it's exquisite and a classic.
I can't wait for Michelle and Jeff to reunite in a movie together...I hope it happens soon...The ending of this movie was epic. She should have won the OSCAR
one of the best lines from the movie, 'you can't even play happy birthday without a fake chart',, Beau should of replied,'little brother, most musicians are decent people at least until they get famous" lol
I am forever in love with Jeff Bridges because of this movie which is a true gem. All the people I recommend it to come back to me under its spell.
Beautiful movie like they -almost- don't make them anymore. Soulful, rueful, smart, funny at times, beautifully acted and with a heart, and an open-ended ending that is left for the audience to ponder. I just love it.
Watch how she steps down to join Bridges on the bench at the close of the song. The side width at the end of the keys has got to be no more than 1" 1/4, slick ebony gloss finish, accomplishing the feat in high heels using her left foot and having to maintain poise and singing "Makin' Whoopie". That alone is oscar worthy.
She's so crazy beautiful in this! She should have won an Oscar just for being able to slither around in that dress without falling out of it somewhere.
She is sooo beautiful...she's tall, naturally skinny and slim, small hips, waist ... She looks fragile and elegant!! and that face, that facial shape, those delicat feauters: those small cute curved lips, those really blue eyes that sparkle! She's cute and beautiful at the same time, I want a girlfriend like that!!!
Great performance of a classic song! Apparently, 30 people are either tone-deaf, blind, or have been neutered, since they could even consider a thumbs-down for this!
I've watched the 'Fabulous Baker Bros.' so many times, over the years mostly to see the New Years Eve. "Makin' Whoopie" scene. I don't know which one of them I'd rather be here...still knocks me out!
I love how everyone, including the waiters, is just watching, transfixed. And I like how she strokes his face and he smiles, like Michelle caught Jeff off guard. Great performance.
It was of course a wonderful scene, but it must be put in the context of the absence of his brother, without which, they could never have changed the routine.
There's no one else who could've pulled off that much seduction but class in one whole song leaving you wanting more. Michelle is the last greatest sex appeal of this past generation.
Pfeiffer's early acting appearances included television roles in Fantasy Island, Delta House and BAD Cats, and small film roles in Falling in Love Again
one of the most famous sexies scenes of the cinema ....sensual.....atractive.......both of them.....michell and jeff bridges in fabouos baker boys......beatiful movie!!!1
She has an amazing ability to ACT a song, THAT IS HARD TO DO!!! Yes she does have a good, okay voice. But what makes it a home run is that she ACTS the song.
Perhaps the most unforgettable scene in the entire history of cinema. Michelle defines the word "sexy" in this scene, providing evident proof that women can be very sexy with their clothes on. I have seen men who can not even look at Michelle's face when they meet her in person, she is THAT gorgeous. I wish I were that piano!
This cut is hot on every level. I was, if you'll pardon the expression, blown away to find Michelle did her own vocals. She KILLS this song, even if you set aside her looks, which is impossible. This stands with Diane Keaton's "Seems Like Old Times" from Annie Hall as one of the most phenomenal vocals on film in the last three decades. Hear, hear, Ms. Pfeiffer!
I heard somewhere that Michelle Pfeiffer doesn't like George Carlin and Ringo Starr at all. Who would say something like that? I love George Carlin and Ringo Starr.
She IS hot, but l beg to difer from all that praise out there. Michelle can't really act, sorry guys. She makes a fairly good go at it but she's no Betty Davis, nor even Kim Basinger, for that matter.
Having said that, l totally loved her in Dangerous Liaisons and Witches of Eastwick. l guess you just have to choose scripts wisely - to match your strenghts, not showcase your weaknesses...

I just love how absolutely everything has stopped in the restaurant. Not a single waiter is moving. I still don't understand how he manages to keep playing.
Such an iconic clip - at a time when every leading lady was 'undressing' in the name of art, here Miss Pfeiffer proves how sexy you can be with your clothes ON!
Roger Ebert began his review of The Fabulous Baker Boys with a description of this scene. He then added, "The rest of the film is also worth the price of admission."
