Can you buy this online anywhere or is it only available on CD? I adore this song and absolutely want to support this incredible ensemble!! thanks for uploading it and sharing it with us! Le hannon!
@moonlitshadow27 You can buy the songs done by the Tolkien Ensemble as individual CDs. Here is a list of the CDs
1) An Evening in Rivendell (1997)
2) A Night in Rivendell (2000)
3) At Dawn in Rivendell (2002)
4) Leaving Rivendell (2005)
and here is the Compilation CD boxset which has the same songs as the individual CDs but put in the order they appear in the books, the individual CDs have the songs in the order they were recorded.
@fatboyslim142 That's $40 US, still too much for me as a college student. Eventually I will definately buy the box set, but I want to hear the tracks now! lol. Especially The March of the Ents, which is probably my favorite song from the book.
@icedragon769 Then why don't you ask for the boxset, specify where from, for christmas or if you don't get it for christmas then save up any christmas money and buy it after new year.
@TheOReport1994 Can try the internet, Tolkien had an elvish alphabet, and a small dictionary of words, but I don't believe enough to make a full used language. I think many linguists tried their best to make it workable though. And he had many poems/verses written out. Still fun to learn
When I Hear this song, I dream away... Looking over a beautiful scene of trees in authum, the grass softly sweeping in a cold breeze. Wow this whole picture is amazing! I Love this song.
God, this is so beautiful. Tolkien's entire legendarium has so much amazing depth. It's hard to believe that it was undertaken by the passion of one man. I'm so glad to have taken a journey through his 'Middle-Earth."
The Eldarin tongue in question is Noldorin Quenya. These are the last words of Galadriel before boarding the ship to Valinor with Elrond, Gandalf, Bilbo and Frodo.
The text limit is too small to post the full poem:
Galadriel sings this when the Fellowship departs from Lorien.
The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, Book 2, Chapter 8: Farewell to Lorien.
Apparently she believes at this point that she isn't allowed to go back to Valinor. She is the last surviving leader of the revolt against the Valar. That is what this song is about.
For refusing the ring and giving everything up, however she was forgiven and was allowed to go back to the undying lands
What I like about about Galdriel is that she speaks the truth but she is a good person she is mysterious but she also has helped frodo along his journey to mordor
Some of the most beautiful singing I have ever heard - This is much more how language should be. However, language is what it is, but this is wonderful to listen to anyways.
You're correct :) Those lines were taken from this song and put into the film ^^ they did that too with a the drinking song in The Green Dragon. The lyrics in it is actually taken from Frodo's drinking song and the bath song in the books.
Not in the book he didn't... but unfortunately creative freedom can go a bit too far, and in this case they maybe crossed the line :/ But I love the films anyway :)
@Curucuar In the book Gandalf made the comment that the Elves were fighting in other ways. The movie make the point with their expeditiary assistance. To show it otherwise would have required adding the entire Dol Guldur campaign, and perhaps the Lonely Mountain campaign to bring in Legolas's people.
Damn Quenya really is high and noble sounding! I never really noticed so much till hearing it now! (When I stopped and listened without thinking to hard) I always thought it was beautiful when I read it and studied it But now actually hearing it I totally get why it's called High-elven and why it's said to be the most noble of tounges. It's just- something I don't know the word for- I suppose it must be beyond the mortal tounge to tell :)
Aww she was doing so good at pronunciation and I was so impressed and she was even trilling the r's and then she went and pronounced calaciryo with an s sound on the second c instead of a k sound :(
All today I've been trying to put together a tune in my head of how this song would go. I thought it sounded pretty good.... but then i heard this
