  • man this got me mad arnold swarzineger what ever his name is tmz got photos of his wife with a cell phone while driveing its ok for her to break the law butt we cant i wonder if arnold is gonna charg her for it

  • Overall, this video was pretty nice, but all the facts you used were about car accidents in general, NOT specifically about cell phones. =P

  • They were about driver distraction under which cell phone use falls. Considering the relative novelty of the technology's prevalence, studies thus far have been variable. I presented this well over a year ago, but if memory serves the consensus seemed to point to cell phone use accounting for at least 5% of distraction-related automotive accidents. Seems a small number, but when applied to numbers as high as we're looking at here, it's quite a significant amount of cases.

  • best wishes.

  • Sure, distracted drivers are a main cause in auto accidents, but can you really study this enough to state as a fact, that its only due to cell phone use? I can agree that it is in fact a danger risk, but banning it can cost, more than benefiting. Its a difficult situation, but I think that leaving it how it is now is the smarter idea. Accidents happen, no matter what we do to try and prevent it. No laws can change how people act.

  • Good point, cause all the dumb people wil kill themselves by talking on the phone, and us the smart ones will live

  • The issue with that is the fact that people who are distracted while driving put everyone in danger, not just themselves. And also people always say, what about tuning the radio, or changing cd's or lighting up a cigarette? Those are dangerous yes, but they're only distracting for a few seconds (hopefully). The average cell phone conversation may last 5-20 minutes. Would someone really want to drive next to a person holding a distracting conversation for that long? I know I wouldn't.

  • I think cell phones shouldn't be banned on the highway. Sometimes you may need to make an emergency call. However I recommend people park somewhere and make a call or two. I also recommend if you have a passenger to have them answer the cellphone and if the person calling just wants to chat tell them to wait until you are home that is safer for you and other drivers!

  • Y'know, I think I might actually agree to an extent about the highway bit. I know people who have had people call them at regularly scheduled intervals on the highway to prevent "highway hypnosis." Good call.

  • I'm the VERY 1st person behind you to sign a ban on these devices. I've never lost anyone to this sorta thing, but I've had some near hit and misses on the road with dum asses who were almost the cause of my accidents. Of course ya know not all these stupid ass teenagers are gonna listen or the crooked ass cops bother to enforce the law even if it is put into place, so why bother? Cell phones...the worst freakin invention ever made. Reality shows fall a close 2nd. 2 things I just can't stand!!!

  • Cell phone law doesn't work to achieve it's goals. I've explained it here:

  • We are PHREE! but Freedom isn't PHree. Yet, every commercial, car ad, and any other sorry attempt at declaring our uniqueness, always plays on the key word FREE. 20 percent more Wheedies, PHREE! Buy Uno, get 1 PHREE! A PHREE whatever with Purchase! The Feds find what you Like, Need, Do and either Tax it, Fine it, License it, jail you for It, ticket It, levy it, permit needed for IT, or just seize it. Some Freedumb. 6,927,761,928 Laws does NOT make a Free Country.

  • I agree with you to some extent; the government is overzealous when it comes to said taxations, fines, licences, etc. Freedom still exists here, however (the freedom to spell free however you like for example :D), once actions resulting from your own personal freedoms infringe on the freedoms of another, you forfeit some of those freedoms. Cell phone use and driving is a prime example.

  • Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty, or even committing a crime/accident? Lets face it, its just a way to save insurrance companies money while taking away our freedom. Not to mention revenue from tickets. You can bet if hamburger eating while driving was banned. McDonalds big shot attornies would make sure it didn't pass. Theres nothing wrong with dialing at a stop light.

  • Innocent until proven guilty doesn't really apply to this situation. Insurance companies saving money can only be a good thing because it means fewer accidents (Unless you're suggesting that they should withold compensation from the deserving). The revenue from tickets could fund TV Spots urging people not to be stupid while they drive. The McDonalds example is an incorrect assessment of our legal system. Large corporations have often lost out in favour of public safety.

  • Public safety issues are right up politicians' respective alleys. They look like heroes to their constituents if they make the roads safer. And really, the cell phone thing isn't an issue of money, corporate greed, politics; it's an issue of safety. Not just yours, but that of those around you. Dialing at a stop light is all well and good, but you're concentrating much harder on the subsequent conversation than you are on the road. It is not worth the risk. It can wait until you park.

  • So lets ban cell phone or radio contact for Police while driving, whats fair is fair. And also ban lap dogs, on laps of these women that can't leave their dog at home. hopefully the lawmakers that passed this law, invested wisely before, in aftermarket car stereos with hand free phones built in so they could make a big profit. I feel Less Safe, when there are more laws.

  • I would love nothing more for there to be no laws at all. I would love it if humanity were able to mature itself enough to negate the need for laws. But history and present has shown time and again that we will not change. We will continue to put others in harm's way because we are lazy and impatient. So obviously someone who is a bit more mature and intelligent than the average citizen needs to make a decision or two for them.
