  • Too bad this song is too short. I wish it would go on forever.

  • I love this album more than my mother.

  • I love metal but I fucking despise 99% of its fans. The ones with an internet connection, anyway. Comments on this page are pretty much why. Bawwww wahhhhh its overrated wahhhhhh I'm a fucking cunt bawwww. Etc, etc, etc.

  • Even though I generally enjoy this album, I also have to blame it for all the terrible, uninspired melodeath and metalcore clones that came in its wake. The sad thing is it's never really been done better since then and yet it's probably the most oversaturated of all metal genres and has had one of the greatest negative influences.

  • At the Gates are one of my favourite bands for years now, this is the first time I listen to this song on youtube, I got this album since I was 14

Buy some cd's guys! It will do good to our favourite musicians! keep it heavy

  • Alexandra Burke advert before the song, targeted advertising at its best...

  • Found this song through a cover by a japanese band. I found a new fav band now...

  • This is pure art. It is like you can feel your own fear dissapear when listening to this masterful composition.

  • they are confirmed in VAGOS OPEN AIR 2012 here in portugal!!!!!!

  • Caliban did a sick cover of this, check it out!

  • they co-founded the melodeath-genre in the 80's. this is pure melodeath. maybe 25% thrash.

  • dude this is 100% thrash ....not death or black metal idiots

  • @grinhrev This is melodic death metal... idiot

  • Great album.

  • I love this song and this whole album! I wish I had my guitar right now so I could try to play this!

  • dude i love the song but seriously fuck that one minute opening

  • @slimininin oh no, an intro! your attention span would never allow you to enjoy Neurosis.

  • @thychaos except its a third of the song and after listening to a song a few hundered times you get tired of that shit.

  • @thychaos I also took the time to check out your channel, and just for the record, there is no new world order or anything you moron.

  • @thychaos also, theres no zionist conspiracy against the US and Ron Paul will never get elected because he's a racist piece of shit

  • @slimininin first of all, i dont believe in a one world order dumbfuck. you fail to understand what any of those videos are about. second, its a fact that the US is israels bitch and if you cant see that then youre just plain fucking stupid. its in plain sight. uh oh, i mustve made you mad though, considering you had to go to my profile to look for some dirt (which wasnt even there). lol, you are a sad child.

  • I think this album kicks an ass ton of shit.

  • HO, ho don`t forget about the Dutch band Callenish Circle

  • this album is like coming home to me.

  • this band sounds a lot like dark tranquility.

  • @j3wboy1000 They came from the same place, At the same time, Inventing the same genre :) Nope, I'm not joking. Dimension Zero were there too, and a shit tonne of others. Gotta love the swedish!

  • @OoohNoooo they sound like the old soilwork from roughly the same time, haha Soilwork is swedish too o:

  • @j3wboy1000 same genre :)

  • @j3wboy1000 And Soilwork and In Flames... it's all the Gothenburg sound.

  • HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY GUYS. SHUT THE FUCK UP. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, LEAVE.

  • People arguing about genres = faggots

  • @TheDragonbuster100 People who indirectly attack random people for doing something you can't respect or understand because you're too close-minded and you feel the need to share your pointless, inconsiderate opinion as if to suggest that you're under the impression that anyone gives a flying assfuck about it = Simple child who thinks calling people gay for anything other than liking the same gender is somehow offensive. Your level of dumbass-ness and evident immaturity is laughably unimpressive.

  • @Dc3n7s u mad?

  • @TheDragonbuster100 Not really. hbu?

  • You know, genre labeling is really important. It makes it easier to find music, books, movies, whatever. If I like At The Gates, it would be nice to know how to search for music like it. It is important, don't fool yourselves, just don't be a douchebag about it.

  • @MetallKaos genre labelling is the worst plague for music. first because people who usually put those labels don't know nothing about older bands and releases, second because I find more interisting to say 'i like' or 'i dislike' something after having took a listen and not because it's labelled 'bghasfkgcdfsonagcnla-metal-rap-indie'. fuck off genre labels, long live the Music itself.

  • @DrFaustus314 You are missing my point. First, I am fine with people listening to music and just saying "I like" or "I dislike." Just because something has a label doesn't mean you have to like it. Second, it is unfair to call something a bad thing just because some people misuse it. If I like a band or their style, it is easy to say, "Hey, that song was awesome, I want to listen to other songs like that." Music doesn't become less good just because it fits in a genre.

  • @MetallKaos i'm just saying that many bands are compared to others that are completely different just because it's cool playing with labels. for people starting to listen to music seriously before considering to search for something else, hear all the releases of a band (not only one time and please without fast forward), choose your fave and keep listening to it. it's horrible going to the concerts and seeing that no one sings a word.

  • @DrFaustus314 Don't listen to dumb ass people on Youtube if you are wanting to know what kind of music a band is. And don't like or hate one specific genre. You don't have to like an entire genre, and you don't have to just listen to one band. Genres are a tool, and they are a great one at that. It is unfair to tell people to just listen to ONE band or ONE release from that band. Expand at your pleasure, and use genres as a guide, and not a mandate.

  • damn... this record sounds still as fresh as it did back then............

  • their logo looks like the fear factor logo

  • Slaughter of the soul turned my friend into a metal head many years ago. i watched it happen as i put it in my cd player driving home from vintage vinyl in NJ

  • First 38 seconds is a waste of my life, GET TO THE FUCKING SONG ALREADY!!

  • @blazzered2 It's called an 'Intro', dumbass.

  • ¡Estupendo!

  • fleshgod did a horrible job on this.. they fucked it all up.

  • @912joeskee THANK YOU. I thought the same thing on their Carcass cover. People overrate the two covers immensely.

  • @912joeskee Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I liked it.

  • @912joeskee

Fleshgod Apocalypses cover of this song totally sucks. They totally fucked up this song i agree. The used too fast and overdosed blastbeat drumming that it sounds like shit. It sounds like he is blasting on a plastic can like an retard. ......The German Metalcore band "Caliban" also covered this song. The guitar work is no that good. but they did an good job for a Metalcore band.

  • @ChannelxxAUSTRIAxx01 EXACTLY!! i dont know what other people's views on how covers should be done but i think if you cover something keep it as original as possible but at the same time bring a little bit of your bands sound in as well. like caliban's version. know what i mean? haha

  • This album kicks a shit ton of ass!

  • we used to cover this song with my black metal band late 90's, always blast when we played in on stage!

  • Who gives a fuck about genre labeled bullshit, its just fucking great music. Listen or don't. Dumb asses trying to sound smart.

  • @raychuckster2112 Half the fun of music is interpreting in your own personal way. When you say something like "it's all metal", you're compensating for your lack of open-mindedness or knowledge on the genre by trying to claim that your opinion is the best simply because it is based around simplicity and infinite regress. Trust me, listen to metal for another 3-4 years and you'll realize how important genre tags are.

  • @MutantClannfear I believe I said it's great music, I don't need a tag for that I've been listening to metal since about 1968, didn't need a tag then ether

  • @raychuckster2112 So what if you asked for more "great music" like At the Gates, and I recommended you Radiohead because I believe they're also great? Would you be happy with my recommendation?

  • @MutantClannfear I don't have a problem with radiohead, I also like Yanni . I'll try anything, I like what I like and don't like what I don't like

  • at the gates invented melodic death metal

  • Niiice! The vocals remind me on Sodom.

  • at the gates has always been a favorite of mine, tho i mostly listen to black metal and thrash metal

  • haha so true, this world is blinded by fear

  • best one of At the Gates

  • @purehatemetal Cold is a great song too

  • Does he really sing "I cast aside my chains"? It sounds like he sings something like "I saw the silent machines". But this only my opinion. Great song!!!!

  • @Xatalion while those bands did make melodic death metal much more popular in the metal community, the real founders are bands like Edge of Sanity, Carcass, Dissection, Ceremonial Oath, etc.

And no I don't have anything against the bands you mentioned, just trying to clarify a bit for those that don't know.

  • This is one of those albums where you can't help but think "How the fuck did they manage to put so many great songs on one CD?!"

  • Sorry, I don't like screamo. Dislike.

  • @CilverNightHigh According to your profile, it appears you go onto videos of metal bands and state that "you dont like screamo". Dude, get a fucking life.

    Seriously.

  • @CilverNightHigh Well then lucky for you this isnt screamo! this isnt even what the stupid mainstream call screamo... common dude... The mainstream ''screamo'' is post-hardcore and deathcore like Bring Me The Horizon, Asking Alexandria n stuff like that. real Screamo is oldschool hardcore like pg 99 and saetia... THIS IS FUCKING MELODEATH!!!

  • @CilverNightHigh Should have listened to the instruments and looked at the lyrics might have look past it being melodic deathmetal (not called screamo)

  • @CilverNightHigh

    Screamo? Haha you failed creature.

  • *sigh* children in the comments

  • Can't wait ti' i see them on Tuska in Hel(l)sinki. ;)

  • So brutal but so melodic at the same time.

  • Comment removed

  • this. is. the. birth. of. the. best. genre. EEEEEEEVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEERRRRR

  • @jpjk061752 melodeath is really nice. i still prefer progressive and THRASH

  • This has got to be one of the best death metal songs ever

  • O MY FUUKING GOD, STOP ARGUING ABOUT THIS METALCORE SHIT, WE ARE HERE TO ENJOY MUSIC!!!!!!!! OK? FUUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AT THE GATES!!!!!!!!

  • people have to know what exactly 'metalcore' is. 'metalcore' is a subgenre of metal combining Metal (METALcore) and Hardcore (metalCORE) (Bands such as madball and terror etc.) a good example of a metalcore band is KSE, they combine metal and hardcore perfectly, bullet for my valentine (known as 'metalcore') in fact is not because they have little to no hardcore influence in their songs. i dont give a fuck about genres but it pisses me off seeing people commonly get this fact wrong haha

  • @metalpunkx666 Bullet has plenty of punk influence in their album "The Poison" (their only metalcore album). It's just shit. They released 20 songs and only about 2 were decent.

But yeah, now that the metalcore hype has gone away, people should try to at least give it a chance.

  • @Zimx02 they have punk influence, but not hardcore i see what you are saying but i think there is a slight difference; both are similar though

  • @metalpunkx666 Wow. Don't you know that hardcore is a punk subgenre? That's why "hardcore" is short for "hardcore punk".

  • @Zimx02 oh i thought there was hardcore and hardcore punk. like when i think of hardcore i think of bands like madball and terror and when i think of hardcore punk i think of minor threat and the casualties

  • This band is awesome. However why do people judge music by genre when they should judge by band. I don't like Metalcore, but I like KSE. Metal is Metal, quit bitching about worhtless sub-genres and enjoy great music.

  • @pacomonkey007 I agree with this. As a whole I dislike Metalcore, but there are definitely bands within the genre that are worth my time. Its mostly because the vast majority of bands in the genre are unoriginal hacks (same with Deathcore IMO) and thats why people as a whole give crap to any band even associated with Metalcore. Its sad but true. Its what happens when music genres get popular. You get ever Tom, Dick, and Harry coming out of wordwork, forming shitty, mediocre bands and it hurts

  • @pacomonkey007 (Cont)...the genre as a whole.

  • This is so much better than any other deathmetal

  • This song p0wns ... now turn your speaker muuuuch louder and you see: The song kicks ass³

  • Fuck metalcore and screamo! The posing faggots try to rip off At the Gates but they fail miserably. ATG will never die!

  • @Neuffey I can already tell you're not using the term "Scremo" correctly.

  • @MyBeardOfDefiance I don't give a fuck! Fuck that so called "sub-genre" of metal. It's a disgrace and pure shit. It's all thanks to these teenage fan boys who decided to Americanize ATG's sound and they fucked it up big time.

  • @Neuffey Screamo is not a sub-genre of Metal. That's how i know you're not using it right. Look up the term Screamo, listen to some of the bands listed as Screamo (Not BMTH or Atreyu or whatever, they're Metalcore) and you'll see that Screamo has nothing to do with Metal and isn't ripping off At The Gates.

  • Pure is pure, It doesn't matter what continent you come from quit being an elitist. I hate radio metal too and there are a bunch of us all around the world. I'm the biggest Avenged blood for my gay valentine shit talker ever and I am American. Don't think your life experience is any more valid than a person on another continent you never met. I hate the homogenized shit on the radio and TV. If you are real you would spend more time talking to real people than posers.

  • I love how every time I go to a ATG's video on Youtube there are a bunch of people arguing over what style of music this is. Shut the fuck up and just enjoy you fucking music snobs.

  • @123handsom Haha, you like metalcore.

  • God thank to the melodic death metal for existing. Definitely my favourite kind of metal, by far my favourite kind of music! It makes me feel fucking invincible!

  • all-timer .. /me likie!

  • The main riff is something special

  • WAF!!!!!!.........VERY GOOD LADS.........INDEED

  • I really hate arguements about certain types of music that suck and certain types that are outdated....listen, IT'S ALL METAL!!! All different types of metal just sounds a bit different....from Kreator to Motley Crue to Toxic Holocaust to Hurricane.....IT'S ALL METAL. Some metal is harder than other metal, some is growl, some is speed....dude, stop the bitchin....IT'S ALL METAL!!! Love it all!!

  • @celticattack I Thought i was the only one who thinking this but yes Amen!

  • @celticattack I apologize in saying this (not greatly) but your logic is doomed to fail. That something is metal music is not a sufficient condition for someone to like it. Let's face it, there is some shitty metal out there and you don't have to like it all. On the other hand, I agree that so called metalheads should not give their opinion about their individual taste. You like what you like and fuck the rest, but don't bitch about it. Hail.

  • @danielitro1 So I can't voice my opinion cause someone might disagree and get butthurt? You were right until that part.

  • @DMU555 That's right. I don't care what you or anyone else like or don't, I am not interested in being swayed by your (or anyone else's) opinions about metal. All they do when they give their opinion is looking for the approval of others while finding a common enemy.

  • @danielitro1 You just can't take the possibility of being wrong? Dude if you don't care that much, it wouldn't bother you to hear other people's opinions. If you actually have any security about your opinions you'll either stick up for them or just not give a shit when anyone disagrees. You claim you don't care, so why do you say that people shouldn't voice their opinions? People like you embarrass me to be a metal head.

  • @DMU555 Because it is annoying when people voice their opinions and I was trying to agree with "celticattack" on the first place. I am not a metal head so you don't have to worry about me putting you in an embarrassing position.

  • @danielitro1 You saying that it is annoying for people to voice their opinions is a good example of someone voicing their opinion. Congratulations, you contradicted yourself. When someone voices their opinion let alone someone on the internet that you don't know, why would you let that bother you. You may ask if I believe what I jsut said why would I bother talking to you? Why, it's because I love to troll people of course.

  • @DMU555 Here is the thing, it may seem like I gave my opinion about listening to other people's opinions. But, I accept that I made an error on the first place not specifying that the opinions that I don't like are those given without asking first for their opinions, such as someone out of the blue saying something which no one else cares to hear. What I tried to do was to answer to you what seemed to be questions. I know it seems an attempt to salvage a lost argument but it's not like you can..

  • @DMU555 ...write at length with this character's limit. It was intrusive for me to comment on "celticattack"s comment, but I tried to do it in an productive and intelligent way without disrespect not trying to troll anyone. I just tried to point out a logical error when dealing with metal, we don't have to like all metal bands only because they are metal. In conclusion, you (and everyone else) are entitled to your likes and perhaps to your opinions, but not to troll bands you don't like, in my..

  • @celticattack Say that to glam, nu and metalcore.

  • @celticattack ..opinion.

  • saying "HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo METHULCOURE SUCKSS!!!!!!!" in At the Gates video doesn't make you seem a true metalhead, it makes you look like a loser.

  • Why are you arguing about metalcore? It barely has a fanbase by now, it has become the alpha and omega of being repetitve, all the bands sound the same.

But this song will never die. Why? Because it's fucking At The Gates, that's why.

  • @MrCl1nt This song is equally as repetitive as any metalcore song.

However it doesn't mean repetition is a bad thing, it's just something to acknowledge.

  • @Anon41264 That is absolutely right, but what I meant was more about metalcore bands copying the sound of each other, which creates a very narrow listening experience for fans of the genre. When this song came out, none of todays trillion metalcore bands were around, and it felt more fresh and interesting

Of course, probably there are people who just discovered metalcore right now, so they probably have different feelings about it.

  • @MrCl1nt Not every metalcore band is the same, you really need to be ignorant to believe that.

  • @GutsandGlory45 Okay, maybe I didn't say that correctly. I didn't mean that every one of them is the exact same, what I meant that beyond the exceptions lie a sea of bands who have very similar sounds, and very formulaic songs.

Of course, there are bands who manage to have their own sound and taste, for example August Burns Red is easy to recognize.

  • @MrCl1nt I see no problem with that logic.

  • @MrCl1nt Sorry to say it, but metalcore is far from dying. :/

  • @MrCl1nt there are some pretty unique metalcore bands. like heaven shall burn and deadlock.

  • @xXMETALRULZ666Xx Two words.. Parkway Drive.

  • @arzal three words.. Go To Hell

  • @arzal oh hell yea! and the human abstract!

  • @MrCl1nt actually metalcore is developing and it has a good variety of different sounding bands, you're just looking at the mainstream bullshit. and over 90% of the bands in any genre have no originality, especially shit like thrash metal.

  • @Ninjistic Wait, what? Thrash metal is shit? And Metalcore has a good variety of different sounding bands?

    Something's not right

  • @Ninjistic Metalcore does have a good variety , but shouldn't be argued on this kind of video.. Besides... Thrash is awesome..... Idk what YOUR thinking.. Alot of metal Built off of thrash.. Thrash STARTED the speed shit...

  • @Gl4nG3R thrash did not start the " speed shit " it's actually Motorhead who made the first ever song to be considered as Speed metal it was the song "Ace of Spade" so we can say that Heavy metal started Speed metal.

  • @Gl4nG3R most imortantly, thrash gave us the blast beat

  • @mtecpl0x I believe it started with Napalm Death? Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @vPestilence actually, the blast beat, believe or not, originally was developed by jazz drummers (Tony Williams for example used them quite a bit. though how much they influenced metal drummers isn't clear, though there is likely some correlation. Attila used them as far back as '69. Napalm Death however is credited with helping to popularize the technique within metal and hardcore (as well as coining the term). though DRI, Sepultura, SOD, and Repulsion already used it in that context.

  • @LordOvWaffles Nice. The more you know! It was called Acid Beats before blast beats though, correct?

  • @vPestilence that i don't know.

  • AT THE GATES founder of melodic death metal with In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and Soilwrok

  • @Xatalion yeah boy then the black dahlia spawned and have been shredding ever since

  • @Xatalion So what is Children of Bodom then? They've been around since '93. Obviously they didn't contribute anything at all, what with Alexi spreading the genre's popularity. I like all these bands, but dude, don't forget one of the biggest founders. Bodom and Flames have been around for just as long as each other.

  • @Cloud23

    Children of Faggots raped melodeath.

  • @Chamenful Maybe their new stuff which is more of a step at power metal (or just bad music like blood drunk and Are you dead yet) but everything from their early career like Lake Bodom and Hatebreeder is real melodeath whether or not you care isn't my problem.

  • @Cloud23

no. they raped it. "with Alexi spreading the genre's popularity. " you said it yourself.

  • @Xatalion How do you mean? Dark Tranquility was founded a year before At the Gates, and In Flames started at the same time as At the Gates.

  • @Xatalion and Carcass!

  • @Xatalion I think you forgot Carcass sir.

  • @Xatalion Matter of fact just take out In Flames and Soilwork while your at it.

  • @Xatalion don't forget Carcass.

  • @Xatalion Soilwork helped found melodic death metal? Lol.

  • @Xatalion you can go ahead and remove soilwrok from that list

  • @Xatalion The big 4 of melodeath!

  • @Xatalion

someone lookd at wikipedia anc copied pasted he ?

    haha

    xD

  • Comment removed

  • @Xatalion Children of bodom......?

  • @Xatalion Carcass was the founder of Melodic death metal.

  • @Xatalion You do know that in order to be regarded as founder you need to be the first, right? Thus I'd more say that Carcass (1985), Dark Tranquility (1989), Dissection (1989) and At the gates (1990) is a more viable lineup in that regard

  • @Xatalion soilwork? noooo.... carcass? yes

  • @Xatalion

what..? soilwork they started in 1995, and In flames and at the gates and dark tranquillity (1989) started in 1990.. please get yor facts right.. but soilwork have done some good records, no doubnt about that =)

  • @Xatalion in flames sucks

  • @PlacentaDevourer666

    nah they are ok.

  • @PlacentaDevourer666 in flames was one of the best mellodic metal bands out there, check jester rac and whoracle albums.nowadays are smthng different i guess but old in flames is a great band

  • @Xatalion and quo vadis and kalmah and cob and a thousand more

  • @Metalflamme I disagree. ATG, IF and DT had all released an album or EP before or around 95, Kalmah and CoB came four years later so I wouldn't call them founders. Soilwork is also often wrongly credited, though this is just my opinion.

  • @Vellwander I just wanted to say theyre are no real founders of a genre... It all comes step by step

  • @Vellwander you forgot carcass too!
