Well I have been playin-it right all these years but your voicing make it sound MUCH nicer! Great job ,keep it up , I'll be waiting........any chance you could do FM? by them?
*sorry I don't have a web cam or I'd post the ideas
the part I play over "looked so fine upon that hill" is just root position D maj - E maj - C major - D major triads while playing the bass notes E > A > D.
*just writing the actual notes played rather than chords created
Hi, thanks for posting this (any chance you could hold voicings longer to see them more clearly?).
My ear tells me that the first change is Bm/A voiced A in bass (or a walking A G G F# E pattern) with a B-D-F# voicing in right hand. This then moves to a root position Am7 chord (A C E G).
The change on the F bass (G-A-B-D >> F A C E root position Fmaj7) is exactly what I get also.
thank you! we really need more steely dan on youtube. is there any chance you can help me out with what you're playing for the bassline at the very beginning?
i got e a a, a a, then i need the next little run down, and i'll have the entire song
yes excellent.. great song and mesmerizing to "see" it before my eyes... i think i accomplished this once for the birthday song... exactly the kind of fun i'd be having if i wasnt so busy composing philosophy.. thanks for uploading and keep up the good work... west of hollywood next?
Yeah I see what you mean. I was playing the larger chords based on emulating the guitar as well as the rhodes you see. If I were playing in a band rather than alone I would definitely use those, thankyou :)
I really dont know what to say.Unbelievable.Iam a decent keyboardist and can figure out a lot by ear,but I have never even attempted any Steely Dan.I gotta know, did you figure out these songs all by ear?If so,your an incredible talent,if not, your still an incredible talent.Let me know. thanks
Thanks very much! They are by ear yeah. You should try it, its not that bad. Once you get that hunger for finding all those little nuances in the chords, its hard to stop! This one might be a good one to start with actually, its fairly straightforward. Thanks again :)
Nice music chords to let everyone know you ain't messing around on the keys!!! Thumbs up if u nice on the keys!!

@Keyboardman88 Yes, I chose to use the voicings as played live as opposed to the album version

sorry bass notes E > A > D > G
Admittedly simpler than what you're doing but it sounds right to me. I wish I could read your hands better on this part...
