I´m still searching for a pianist who could play the correct melody of the CODA part of this piece. Perhaps, I´ll have to play it myself. No Rubinstein, Nor Horowitz, almost nobody pay attention to this part. They think this is kinda strange part...no! Here is the aim, the top of the mountain, melody reach his maximum point at the coda, and when we enter the scherzo part again, just relax, enjoy, FEEL these Fm II-V-I progressions, and the melody which will finally rest after the "death"...
@freeqwerqwer It`s a very professional playing, most demanding. It´s really difficult to play in his way, many colours and mouvements he gives to the listener know what you mean, he plays in some way superficial about the spirit maybe, or the picture you may like about this peace, but interpretation is different, it´s a chance in classical music, to have another perspective, if not, it will be boring sometime! it`s not only about one picture or style, the composer gives in the work.
Maybe you should stop listening to music while you are in the bathroom; perhaps then you will be more aware of the quality of playing you are hearing...
Kocsis is a brilliant pianist and more recently also a brilliant conductor.

Such amateurish playing He plays this piece as if it were a roller coaster drive, up and down. He trashed this poetic masterpiece. He should play in some pop band or something but stay away from Chopin. It was awful having to listen to him but I was in the bathroom and couldn't get up to shut his playing.
He is one of the greatest living pianist. When he was 20, he played with Richter, because Richter invited him. This playing no a roller coaster! Listen! Perfect construction!!
I think it's not the chopin's spirit here. An oppening too loud whith bad touch. Technically good in deed but in my opinion it's a bad interpretation musically and I am not severe.
But this piece is really hard both technically and musically, so complex it's a real challenge even for piano's masters to extract fully music and rythmic of this piece.
I'm currently learning this piece myself. I've listened to it more than a thousand times over, with so much variation between each pianist. After 1st hearing Kocsis play it tonight though, I'd have to say I rank it top 5. Have you ever heard Freddy Kempf play it? Holy freakin I karumba he nails it. Oh I love this song, I play it 50x a day, listen to it 50 more times, and I never get sick of it.
There is never enough of Zoltan Kocsis. Thank you for posting a Chopin to his repertoire. Kocsis recorded Chopin's walts way back then (philips) and not more. I urge you, dear piano community, to hear his performance of grand valse brilliante (op.18).
The recorded sound is awful it just sounds like a lot of loud playing .This tempo and the rushing ain't my thing.I adore Kocsis .Never heard him in Chopin .Jesus ,exciting but not my idea .Percussive as hell. Certainly not insightful! Like a drunk man let loose . Why so rough , no subtle tonal shading. Oooh jesus i did not even want to hear all the blastedness . doobie doobie doo !
In my humble estimations, one of the most under-rated pianist of the 20th and 21st century. His playing is clear, coupled with one of greatest technique in instrumental history. A poet of the piano, a super virtuoso, a true artist. I absolutely love his Rachmaninoff recordings...stupendous!
All concert pianist are a marvel to listen to. Their skill levels are out of the normal realm. Some are more inspiring...and I have my favorites...but they all deserve credit for their extreme dedication and desire to play the best they can.
This is very enjoyable to listen to. Another fine concert pianist.
this is one of the best recording of this great ballade!
but in my opinion the best recording is from heinrich neigauz ,heinrich tought gielels, richter, ashkenazi, radu lupo, this ballade .heinrich plays this ballade great
I agree. He is very underrated! I would put him toe to toe with Berezovsky and Hough any day! He's a real big technician with a rich sound. Very musical.
Colour, passion, tender and furious, technically insane - not a hint of dry abstraction anywhere. Superb! Wish Kocsis would do a Chopin Complete Piano Works!!!

Guys, dont kill each other. This performance is just a kind of " modern" .and one of the best from the modern recital.
If you dont like listen Cortot, Horowitz, Feinberg, Paderewski or Friedman recital.
Iyou would like to just have a nap, listen the others.... (:-)

Valószínű Kocsis lenne a Föld legkeresettebb pianistája
