  • plane drifting!

  • Congratulations to the pilot, he is really a boss!

Every pilot landing on kaitak was a master, and every pilot landing with such a strong wind is one as well, so doing both at the same time (and perfectly!), that's just too much!

  • This is called the crab technique . Touchdown skewed and then correct wheels to align with run-way. Not an easy thing to do. Thanks for all the crosswind videos. No more Kaitak however. It's like no more vinyl or tube amps for musicians. Wiki on this technique: /wiki/Crosswind_landing

  • I love airplanes!

  • Imagine A380s at Kai Tak

  • Top 6 dangerous airport :D

  • Late Touchdown

  • Fucking hell

  • เกือบไปแล้ว เก่งมากครับ

  • what a drift. that is excellent!

  • นักบินเก่งนะ

  • Side load.back to slow flight.

  • น่ากลัวจริง

  • The wings looked very stressed...

  • Я в Гонконг не полечу, при таких боковых сносах можно и ГРОБАНУТЬСЯ.

  • @proffesor2011 я летал самый лучший город и токого не было

  • Dayum! He Slammed that sumbitch into the ground with Authori-Tay!

  • geez, would have killed buddy to input a lil' left rudder in the flare? lol

  • Always amazing to see how low the groundspeed is on these landings--looks like the wind really picks up when you hit the bay. Very nice landing. Just hard on the tires...

  • Any idea what the registration was? I recently flew on a Thai 777-300 (painted in their old paint scheme) from Bangkok to the new Hong Kong International Airport. It was the first time I actually watched for and felt the sideways movement on final and the telltale hard rudder on touchdown of a crosswind landing The waves (in the water below) were huge, so I guess there was a big storm. It was fun.

  • @100mrpissedoff GOOGLE Kai Tak Airport

  • Momento tenso...

  • @100mrpissedoff yeah this was in the 90's they had a show about it on the history channel but now hong kong has a new airport that does require a sharp turn right before it

  • @100mrpissedoff Yes that's old Hong Kong airport. They quit using this airport long time ago.

  • I landed there Sept 96 on a Philippine airlines 747, just as a typhoon was sweeping in, i nearly crapped myself !!!

  • How are you able to hear what they are saying (in cockpit)? For example @ 00:07 , 00:11 ?

  • @spilot14 ya good question !

  • nice de-crab landing. great video, great airport. unfortunately, there will be no new videos from kai tak :( but in the end, full safety is not ensured at VHHX

  • I guess the wheels are very hard

  • นักบินสุดยอดดดดดดดดดดดด

    Great PILOT!!

  • good viewing very smooth

  • Why don't the wheels snap off?

  • io non dormirei tanto tranquillo!!!!

  • "Ouch!"

    :D

  • Been watching all these Kai Tak landing videos, these pilots are beasts!

  • My Gosh....that was a really close shave!!

  • is that a 777-200 or -300correct? Looks to short for a -300

  • @Razgriz100000 Its a 200

  • Rarely 737's land at Kai tak.

  • one of the first 777's !!!

  • You all can see that the TG captain had the approach and landing under his controll at all time !!! The approach to the hillboard and turning into runway 13 track was smooth and established. Also prior touch-down when being hit by the crosswind the P.F. (Pilot flying, in "old" HKG alwas the CPT!!) smoothly push the paddels for the tail(fin) and the rudders to stabilize his Tripple 777 to the runways centerline !!!

  • 'ouch'

  • those pilots are good

  • @MrDinoNinja

This PILOT is good if you knew how much you need to do this

  • Actually this is a pretty lousy landing but clearly shows how forgiving the trip 7 is. Kai Tak did have some squirrely xwinds (as does Hong Kong Intl) but these guys clearly should have gone around when they encountered that drift during the flare.

  • Rare piloting skills, we should really admire about.

    Thanks to the pilot.

  • What year was this taken?

  • @SmileyPapa probly before 1998 which the airport is closed

  • What year was this tanken?

  • Geeze..the pilot made it look like it was just routine..he good real good...oh wait for Thai pilots landing in HKG is routine, non the less the pilot is impressive.

  • What's it like to be inside a plane during a crosswind? Anybody know?

  • very Nice video! Though how strong was the crosswinds here, it look like the pilot was about to land on the grass.

  • Auch

  • The 777 is the only plane i feel completely safe on, even on a 747, A330 or whatever, i never feel as relaxed and safe as on the 777. I've flown on that 777 last spring.

  • THE ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE IS NOT THE EVIDENCE OF ABSENCE(it a 777-200) airboyd knows what he's talking bout

  • @louisekaille

nope both of you are wrong its an a300-600 thai airways doesnt have an a310 in its fleet. first off the livery that thai uses in this is the retro livery which they changed in 2005, (the 777 came out much later) and second that plane doesnt have winglets and the 777 does. not only that but the flap setup is different from that of a 777, so is the fuselage. And last but not least a 777 has another set of landing gears.

  • @davdaninja

two things to say about this:

    1) listen to the engines.

    2) three pairs of wheels on each main landing gear. 777 has only two main landing gears with the distinctive addition of a third pair of wheels on each of them.

supplementary info: proportion of the fuselage vs wings, as well as the shape of the tail fin. it's a 777. the absence of the raked wingtips indicates it's not a 777-300; by the way, to the best of my knowledge the 777 has never had wingtips.

  • Comment removed

  • @davdaninja lol idiot xDD

is talking like an expert but in fact hes a total looser what airplanes belongs...

you dontknow nuthin xD go home and do the things you can :D

  • @davdaninja - You're wrong on so many levels. This is a 777-200. The 777 has been around for over 20 years, so I literally don't know what the hell you're talking about. You seem to forget that winglets aren't on all triple seven's. Take the 757 for example.

  • @kozarac5

Make that 15 years, first flight of the 777 was in 1994.

Btw. no 777 has winglets, some models have "raked wingtips" which are not as distinctive as classical winglets.

  • OUCH

  • That was smooth as silk. Although not for the passengers.

  • isn't that hard on the landing gear?

  • I'm surprised the tyres didn't blow.

  • BETTER BUILD A WALL AROUND THAT AIRPORT. HE HE....

  • dirft haha

  • it's A310 not B777

  • @amiri320

    dumbfuck it's a 777.

  • @amiri320

It's a 777, A310s are long time retired, A310 looks like a fat, round nose, the 777's nose cone is extended a bit like the AC-130 but with a smooth winshield

  • @Airshow2010

Many of the A310s are still in service. But yes, this one is a 777.

  • the wind shear alarm would've been screaming.

  • @simba3018 ur information is pointless on this thread.....go tell someone who cares mate..

  • amazing!!!

  • One hell of a good save on the pilot's part... I caught myself saying "ouch" at the same time the cameraman did.

  • @Jimaera

To you and some others here, the landing here was nearing perfection and was fully up to par with the SOP on this particular type. The triple-seven (such as many other Boeing a/c, 737NG and 747 to name a few) is designed so that in a crosswind landing the pilot always decrabs after touchdown. Landing gear is built to "twist" around a little bit in this situation.

Many pilots prefer to make a low-wing crosswind approach rather than crabbing due to passenger comfort at roll-out.

  • @ReVolut1on7 Lol, and that's precisely why I only book flights on American-made aircraft. When I see major foreign carriers like Aeroflot still using those old Soviet-era Tu-154s it gives me the chills. Then again, I guess beyond a certain point the aircraft is only as good as the guys in the cockpit, eh?

  • im surprised the tyres lasted that, can the back wheels turn at touchdown?

  • wow!!!goodjob pilot

  • great vid

  • plane drifting haha

  • wow so many MS flight sim pilot's here think they can land better haa haa shut up keep wishing ......

  • is that 777?when still 1997,there is no 777-200/300/er/lr ,i thought is not 777

  • My asshole tightened up just watching, I know that piloits had too.

  • Thai airways is the best!

  • Sawad Dee-kap!!

  • very skilled pilot my ass. any pilot with half a brain knows to get it lined up with the center line.

  • @walle000 read the title

  • good pilot on a tough approach. if he kept on that rudder just a little longer, it wouldve landed more straight. But great job!

  • ouch is not the word! More like holy shit!

  • crosswind is a bitch and i agree with wild a very skilled pilot indeed

  • the San Jose, CA and Old Hong Kong airports are similar the plane fly right over the high-rise buildings

  • @JASPREET42 : Why would anyone live in an area like that...? It'd be like an earthquake/tornado every couple of minutes.

  • @buzzclick500 the San Jose Intl Airport has a curfew, so certain planes aren't allowed to land in between 11pm & 6am, or the airline or owner of the plane woul get fined. Aviation enthusiasts like these kind of areas. ...and San Jose also has height restrictions for high rise buildings.

  • @JASPREET42 : Aah, that makes sense. Thanks! ;]

  • It didn't look that hard.

  • Is this the old airport?

  • @jorgen1990 ys

  • @jorgen1990 yes it is. and its not been used for quite a long time like 12 years

  • @jorgen1990 sure it is

  • The only good part is that he landed within the first 3000 feet, otherwise that was terrible, he had too much drfit at touchdown.

  • Thai is a Brilliant Airline :)

  • Kai Tak is one fucking scary airport

  • what a smoothly done crosswind landing......brilliant pilot!!

  • that's a very great landing that happens in flightgear

  • that is a brillant landing

  • Oh my god, that was the best cross wind landing I have seen

  • how long is this runway???

  • about 10,000 ft

  • Indeed its difficult to land but for skilled pilots with Class III landing clearance, I don't think its a big deal.

  • this is the hardest airport to land at in the world if ur coming in from the countryside but if ur coming in from the ocean than its easy

  • for some reason kai taks runway looks tiny

  • Because passengers want to go that city, and if there's one airport in the city one chance would remain. However, pilots and airline companies never risk the aircraft while landing. Comfort of the pasengers is the second issue (except g-factor). The first issue is landing the aircraft safely. Additionally pilots are trained..

  • Why would airlines even attempt such severe crosswind landings? Landed at SeaTac several years ago under such conditions and, given loud snapping and grinding of metal or whatever, could swear that aircraft suffered structural damage as a result. Wasn't too comfortable for passengers either. Instead of inspected for damage, watched that aircraft at SeaTac take off roughly 35 minutes later with a full load of passengers.

  • RIP Kai Tak, we will miss you

  • Wow , that was cool !

  • Good condition for landing, not a bad wind.

Others had harder condition to land :D

  • how come whenever the plane is not so sure if its safe to land .. they go back up .. then down .. the turn. .. then up.. then down .. i mean thats what hapened to me last summer (from vancouver-hongkong) i thought i was gonna die

  • Last summer I flied from GRR Michigan to ATL Georgia using Delta wow! the crew on duty was sucks they all was young people some how the weather wasn't good and, they was jocking on on board calling the server every time I wasn't sure about the reason of that many calls. what had pissed me off was that the server was looking so scared and people on board was so panicking including me! that wasn't funny at all! but we made it to ATL not so fine.

  • Your English is horrible !! Go to school -.-"

  • You know what English is my 8th language, I believe I am doing so good as my eighth language just learn in 4 years. Tell me what you know? Ms professor

  • Last summer, I flew from GRR Michigan to ATL Georgia with Delta. Wow! The crew on board sucked. They were all so young and the weather wasn't fine. Every single time, they were calling the flight attendents which I do not know why. What pissed me was, the flight attendents looked scared on board. The passengers started panicking. It wasn't funny at all! We did arrive at ATL Georgia but the flight wasn't fine.

  • Final approach seems vey short isn't it? If so why? There isn't any mountains or something towards the runway.

  • probably because the plane lost most of his speed at 1:25

  • I was wondering watching the video what was so special about this landing. And then until the last 3 seconds before the landing. Holly Crap! that was tough, and those are very good pilots. I dont want to land like this, though I had a tough landing on JFK with Delta ...

  • Wow the pilot ist good

  • the plane is good!

  • 5* crosswind landing

  • Great pilot!

  • those tires where changed out after unloading for sure.

  • great crosswind landing.

  • good pilot

  • Love the 777

  • The triple seven!

  • couldn't they built this airport on a bettter location

  • This airport closed about 12 years.

please google before say something dumb.

  • closed or not,it was there dumbass

  • Pixoria...try googling "Ignorant cock" and funnily enough your name comes up !

  • @clydebear No it doesn't

  • at the time it was the only location and back then we didnt have large airliners only small props back then

  • That airport was built by British. It was military purposes, times changed and airport started to receive commercial jet liners. ;) Like pixoria's comment, that airport is closed.

  • They have closed Kai Tak Airport years ago.

  • @pianoomar100

    y??

  • Because it was too close to the city.

  • body a crosswind land is when the wind is blowing from one of the side of the runway, a mean the wind is not straight whit the airplane so you have either right wind or letf and you have to crab de wings in order to land straight to the runway other wise the aricraft will float out of the ruyway see yaa.......

  • as a passenger , i have landed here in this airport , but havent noticedif its a crosswinds or not , lol, anybody can tell me what is a crosswinds , thanks

  • Sounds like this was filmed in an control tower lol

  • opposite

  • :O that must of hurt when they were landing they didnt straighten out they kinda did the complete opisite.

  • it came down floating so i would think it was a soft landing

  • I know I was thinking 'ouch' as well. Why not give her a little rudder a the last second and get straight?

  • i think they hit some more wind last minute and if they didnt put some rudder to the right they wud hav drifted abit too far to the left

  • whats the checkerboard?

  • ouch!!

  • Very skilled pilot. Thai is worthy of the Star Alliance tag.

  • @wildkalaya pilots are trained to do this otherwise it wouldnt make sence...

  • the crosswind kicked in at the last second

  • how do u know the differences between the 777-200ER and 777-200LR?

  • I think you can tell them apart by the wing tips, the extended range are tiped backwards, and the LR are normal, I think, not quite 100% sure

  • LR's have raked wing tips. ER's don't.

  • LRs will always have the raked wingtips and only be powered by GE90-1xxB engines.

ERs do not have the rakes, and can also be operated by Rolls Royce and Pratt&Whitney engines as well.

LRs also have larger tires, larger internal fuel tanks, the option for belly tanks, and empennage fortification; but there's no way you can tell any of that just by looking at them from the outside.

  • LR has raked wingtips

  • The 777-200ER doesnt have ranked wingtip

    777-200LR and 777-300ER has it.

  • They don't either..

  • What do you mean ?

  • does hong kong have different laws about airplane safety because we took off during a crazy thunderstorm when i was there and there was lightning every 20 seconds. Then the turbulense was crazy and all the asian women were yelling. It was more fun than scary though.

  • perfect.......nothing else

  • That was some crazy crab just before touchdown, might just be the angle of the video, but it looked like the crosswind picked up a lot just before touchdown, or he was trying to fly down the centreline. I don't know.

  • Good landing in shitty weather =D

  • Thanks
