I almost hate to admit to it - but back in the 60's I was just another fat boy in Jr. High School until someone got the idea for me to come out of a a brylcreem tube Dressed like a GIRL - yes wearing a wig and an over-sized bra - for a skit and did my act while the played "The Stripper" for assembly aka like Woolie Joe Namath of the N.Y. Jets did in one of his infamous TV commercials. Well needles to say I was a huge, huge hit and at least for a little while I wasn't just the fat boy.
So at my highschool we play this in marching band at the football games and at open house night we play it while walking down the stairs from the band room to the main lobby and parents look at us like we are dirty hahaha :D
I always play this when I play at functions when introducing a female speaker or as a volunteer at senior centers,,, most of them keep their clothes on, one thing about seniors,,, none are trolls lol
Not a fan of strippers, but I love the story of this song.
Rose wrote this in the last 10 minutes of a recording session in 1958. He referred to it as "a funny piece of music with no title." Later, Rose was asked to re-record the song "Ebb Tide" to help promote the movie "Sweet Bird of Youth, which he quickly did, but the movie studio needed a B-side for the single, so this song, which was an unnamed, was pulled from the vaults, given a name and placed on the B-side of the "Ebb Tide" single.
my high school band performed this song once for a half time show during the football season. we had the band forming a stick figure, and we "took off her skirt" during it. (:
still wondering how we got that cleared through administration!
My high school band did this song for the senior football game last year as a pep band by choice of the seniors in band. They got boas in school colors and everything. I still have my part for this; I play baritone, and it's FUN.
We played this all 3 years of high school in marching & pep band & both teachers & students loved it. Of course the world was a different place 30 years ago....
My high school band would play this if we were winning with 2 minutes left in the game. Amazing that we never got in trouble for it... until we played it one year when the homecoming Queen was announced.
@paddyosee my high school pep band did it on multiple occassions at basketball games, but the principal etc thought it was inappropriate for us to play it at the girls games xD then my newest band teacher took it out of the portfolio and pissed a lot of seniors off lol
2 words WTF
