The last half of this episode is excellently produced. Fantastic television. The inherent drama of landing on a pitching deck at night is so entertaining and the tension is palpable. It makes the officers eating popcorn and placing side bets all the more funny!

Cheers from Sydney! I agree! You get the sense from US pop culture that there is a "Fighting Class". Young people involved in crime who basically get the choice between prison and the military. In Australia, The people I've known who went into the Air Force and Navy were brilliant at school, fit, square jawed clear eyed Aussies. Middle class and well educated men and women. I heard of the son of someone I work with who had a Graffiti charge and wanted to join the Army. Didn't have a chance.

@NLR884evr actually Britain was not rebuilt under the Marshall Plan, on the contrary, America insisted that Britain keep up repayments on its war debt to the US even though the British population was almost starving.

WW2 was a war waged by the USA against Britain as much as it was against anyone else. America funded the Nazis so they could attack Britain and then bankrupted Britain while still allowing them to fight with Lend:Lease.

@ebrak47 No, this is not the MTV version. This is the way the Navy is going. What they showed here is a little tamer than what I experienced in '03, but on my next cruise, it was even more sissified than this one. Only Khakis (and I think 1st classes) could participate in the hazing. I felt so cheated by not getting to pass on what I had recieved, but that's the new Navy.
