I wish Walther still made this P38! I've been playing Red Orchestra 2 & I noticed how nice the P38 is. I visited Walther's website &, except for the PPK, all of Walther's pistols look plastic :( What's worse is the PPK uses a less powerful cartridge than the P38

So Walther has NO replacement for the P38 that ISN'T plastic :( How stupid.

I like the round barrel up front on the P38. Easy to aim when not using iron sights. It's classy! I'd rather own a P38 than other semi-auto pistol.

Thank you very much for this video - it brings back a lot of memories. Used it in the South African Police in 1992, before it was replaced by Z88 (An improved version of the Beretta 92F which was manufactured in South Africa).

Just curious about something. What is the point of it being double-action? I mean don't you have to pull the slide back anyway in order to load a round into the barrel? The only reason I can think of is that you can keep the hammer uncocked and still fire it right away. Safety thing I guess..as opposed to a 1911 where the hammer needs to be pulled back in order to fire right away. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Very nice, well built gun. I'm looking for one myself and I've found it isn't too costly. My best friend is a novice to shooting and this is one I'll recommend to him. It fires well I've found and eight rounds is enough for personal defense or recreation shooting.

@Caterpillarjon The Federal ammo, is it the ones in the dark reddish/purple box? I would try some Winchester 115 grain ammo, I have found it is usually a little better at feeding and ejecting. The Federal is not bad, also Federal makes some called American Eagle ammo in a red box with and eagle on it. I think it may be a little more than the Federal in the reddish/purple box, but I've never had any problems with it either.

@ThaWolf24 With double action you can have a round in the chamber with the hammer down and the safety on. Flip the safety off and squeeze the trigger to fire, where as in Single action firearms you would have to cock the hammer first. So you can get your first shot off faster.

@ThaWolf24 To my knowledge, with the single action when you just pull the trigger it releases the hammer to fire. With a double action, when you pull the trigger it cocks the hammer and then fires. In theory, single action would make you be more accurate, because with double action you would have a harder trigger pull, and it could make you throw the sights off target if you have to pull to hard.

That's what I was told anyway.

The drop "safety" in a wartime P-38 is not reliable. Racking the slide like you did with the "safety" on can result in a discharge. The wartime P-38 is only a souvenir and probably should not be fired.

Actually the Beretta M92 copies (borrows) many of the features of the P38, including the locking system, the trigger system and the magazine release. One could say that the Beretta is a modernized version of the P38. Both pistols are exceptional.

i actually believe thats a walther p1, the difference is the walther p38 was made during the war, all most walther p38's made after the war were renamed walther p1's because the grip area of the pistol is made from aluminum. And by that feature it was made to be lighter.
