HOW HE CAN SAY HE DIDNT INTEND TO GLORIFY THE MAFIA LIFESTYLE. yOU CANT HAVE A MAN WHO DEMANDS RESPECT AND HAS RESPECTABILITY LIKE VITO CORLEONE PLAYED BY OUR BEST AND MOST BELOVED ACTOR OF AL TIMES AND NOT GLORIFY IT. iT WAS REALISTIC TO A POINT AND THAT POINT ENDS WITH THE NOTION OF HONORABILITY THAT VITO CORLEONE HAD. HE WAS A GOOD MAN BASICALLY AND THATS AN OXYMORON-MOB DON DOESNT EQUAL NOBILITY AS PORTRAYED IN THE FILM.AND AL PACINOS ROLE WAS ALSO GLORIFIED BEYOD ANY REALITY OF THE MAFIA
Although Michael and Vito's characters both have positive traits, they both pay the price for their viscousness and hubris. Vito sees his son Sonny murdered and his son Michael, whom he had hoped would be a senator becomes a murderer in exile. Michael never wanted to be part of the mafia but is sucked into the role of don, which he will never escape. These are tragic figures who's flaws ultimately doom them and their family. I think you need to look up the definition of the word glorify.
I think the guys that produced this produced the real goodfellas documentarie.

So Coppola didn't mean to create a Mafia tribute. I wonder how the movie might have evolved if the mafiosi didn't meddle so much in production.
