  • I hate planes, I love thunderstorms, it would freak me out, i had a similar experience where on my way home from florida the weather comditions made lightning go right through the plane, some bad turbulance there was July 2 2001 even before 9/111 flying wasn't my ting I scared

  • Headed home frm where, that happened to me on my way home from floria near georgia and teh carolinas no delays we thought that we were gonna crash. This loos harminus and a scene like from a piderman movi eor sumtin

  • Spectacular ---------->

  • I just experienced a thunderstorm over Nigeria during my night flight from Cape Town to London - so very special and beautiful!

  • his voice sounded gay (pilot) lol hey sounded like a pedo xD nice video btw :)

  • thats Goku and Buu fighting

  • witnessing a storm like this = 'Priceless' !

  • way better than sleeping on a flight!

  • Hey dude nice video, really cool! I want to use it for my personal intro for my videos, is that ok by you?

  • @thabest007 I uploaded my new intro, just say so if you want it removed or if you want me to give you some credit or something ;)

  • That's what I'd like to see on those summer nights! Looks much better from the sky. I fly into Hawaii soon and there are supposed to be thunderstorms, so maybe I'll get to see one!

  • how can you not live mother nature :D

  • hey i was at the seat in front of u!

  • were was this at ?

  • amazing this is incrdible light

  • the most beautiful video in YouTube

  • @luis30secondsto Thanks luis30secondsto! I sure got lucky on this flight. A lot more fun to watch than the crappy in-flight movie.

  • I don`t know how many times I watched this Video, but I`m still fascinated... Thanks for uploading!

  • This is soo beautiful! I wish i saw this live.

  • awesome lightning storm video.... Was anyone freakin out on the plane? =]

  • That happend to me i was coming home from tunisia went over paris and there was a lightning storm under us, When we went into the uk every1 was fine

  • That is amazeing, spectacular! , lol if i was in that airplane, i'd be scared shitless lol

  • that is spectacular! :)

  • Love the Gay Steward.. sounds like the guy from Family Guy. Wonderful footage, too bad we can not hear all the noise that storm is making.. would be a great lulabye.

  • whenever there is no lightning striking there is a face has anybody noticed that?

  • interesting....you would think that a storm making its way out to sea during july is a very common thing...they must be in a much different area than where i live in mass....that's pretty much the norm up here that time of year

  • Do you know what is interesting?....that poor light in cloud....I tried to imagine, that it is window, reflexing a light from the plane board...but ....lights, ferlexing in window are moving differently than that light ......

  • Yeah:DD nice capture:D But....try to put the song: Cold Meat Industry - New Risen Throne in there ;) ...... You will see you like it:DD

  • i just expericend this flying back to L.A. from Atlanta, most of the action was over oklahoma city, but a site to see when your @ 38,000 feet...tried to get the cam out, but couldn't get it in time, great vid!!!

  • I had a thunderstorm in Colorado like this. The lightning was just non-stop!

  • the last vision from AF447

  • Exactly

  • id be scared if that were me on that plane at that time O.O

  • If you avoid the storm, there's no problem. The thing is when you get into the storm (AF447)

  • Most Planes that get into Storms pull through it, I do believe AF447 had another serious issue

  • First, I don't understand why they didn't avoid the storms (not only one, there were several). And second, why didn't they send a mayday distress

  • Apparently they experienced an Electrical Failure, maybe they did try to send a Mayday and it failed. No one really knows what happened unfortunately.

  • Beautiful!

  • Ive seen something like that when flying to Spain, it was further away though..

  • why are thunderstorms rare at this time.

as far asi can see are thunderstorms in the rgion of bermudda-dreieck-florida nothin special.

u only need tropical humid warm air and a cold front--> Bang-->thunderstorm

  • kewl

  • 5:34 PIRATE!!!

  • If this was south of the Carolinas this storm was in the Bermuda Triangle. Perhaps it was not a storm but a transport portal for alien spacecraft. Remember Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds'? Maybe we should all collectively seek to welcome our new insect (or otherwise) overlords. I wanted to know what those War Of The Worlds aliens smelled like. Ever smelled gasoline drying on paper American money? (worked at a gas station) Probably they smelled like that.

  • You're a damned riot, korgri. Love the Simpsons quote.

  • if there's lighting that means there's thunder to doesnt it. IS there a difference betweena lighting storm & a thunder storm or are they both combined

  • This is pretty awesome. In July of 1992 I was flying to Phoenix from Chicago when we ran into lightning storms along the way. It was really cool to watch the lightning go in and out of the clouds. Then we landed during a thunderstorm where we saw lightning flashing while cutting through the cloud cover. It was an awesome trip - weather in Arizona during the summer is amazing indeed.

  • Great show thanks for posting this! Better to be flying around it than in a boat beneath it!

  • i flew to texas on july 11, 2007 around 12:30am i saw storm it was few miles away from us

  • What I'd have given to have been on that flight!

    What a display. Fabulous.

  • Absolutely spectacular. During the summer of 2006, I flew from DC to Las Vegas and got to experience a little lightning show over the midwest, which practically lit up the whole cell for the entire duration. We were at least 50 miles away from the cell and the turbulance was extremely strong. I suppose, there could have been a storm underneath us or in the opposite side of the plane.

  • wow, that's so cool! wish i can see one too while on a plane

  • 4:15 - ligntning is stalking your flight!

  • it is so cool to be above the clouds in a storm extreme and pieceful...NICE

  • i saw this for about 3hrs straight on a flight back to trinidad from new york

  • oh ... i misread your caption ... (for some reason when i glanced I thought halfway between NYC and LA) ... nvm

However, in response to the previous comments, lightning over the atlantic during the summer months is very common ... the ocean temp reaches mid 70s

  • I KNOW -- the flight attendant musta been an idiot. (If you listen to the audio, he claims over the P.A. that "this is very rare this time of year.")

  • this storm is over land

  • I'm curious to know why you believe the storm was over land (honestly, I'm not experienced enough to see a difference between terrestrial and maritime formations). This storm cell was shot from the starboard side of the plane, heading north, a few miles east of the Atlantic Coast.

  • Storms over the Atlantic are rare in the summer? Huh?

  • yea usually in the summer storms form over land.

  • holy shit there is a proper little party going on in thoughs clouds.

excellent quality video, thankyou very much!

  • omg a bg scary dog monster ty alot blad im gonna die of scare

  • you can bring a camera on a plane? lol...

  • I saw the same thing when flying back to the UK frmo Gran Canaria in 2002, was quite spectacular! It was further in the distance though but it was great to see a storm from that angle!

  • I was landing in Kuala Lumpur, and during the entire 30 minutes descent, there was a lightning storm, too bad i didnt have my camera, every 3 seconds, you would see an actual bolt of lightning, it was amazin

  • Great video. For best viewing... Do yourself a favor after the video completly loads.Pause it and drag the video slider and you'll manually view each individual lightning bolt/cloud illumination. The viewpoint is from the right hand side of the airplane as the plane moves from right to left. You can clearly see the flightpath around the storm formation.

  • Does anyone else see the angry monster from 2:09 to 2:19 as you slowly drag the video slider

  • thts fuckin weird 2:16

  • i'd say it was 2:14 lol but it is still creepy

  • yea

  • yea, bad ass

  • Weeeird!

  • this is beautiful! that's about 60 lightnings/min or even more!

  • ISN´T THAT DANGEROUS??

  • I! Would be SCREAMING at the TOP! of my

    very tuff lungs!!

  • for no reason. lol

  • I love the intercoud illuminating of the cells structure! cc streamers galore! :D

  • wow, that's SO cool!

  • i have seen storms like this a few times from planes, mainly over the atlantic and over australia, been on a plane hit by lightning to lol........fun times

  • its dangerous though, if you are hit by a sprite you're going down

  • I hate flying and seeing a flash of lightning outside - really makes me piss myself !

  • thank you very much for this. ive been after quality lightning footage for a while to use as my vista ultimate dreamscene. awesome, and yes i would have loved to have been on that plane with my Sony DCR-SR300 DVD Handycam

  • Thats a bad storm wow ;P V' Nice video

  • That was absolutely mesmerising :-)5 stars

  • thats not rare in july

  • just what I was thinking, thats prime time for those types of storms where I live. Texas.

  • same in philly

  • Very nice! Looks like a pretty bad storm! That's really beautiful, though! :)

  • ive seen this too, on the way to australia-over the tasman sea, it was a massive storm that i watched for about 2hrs as we flew by, got 1 pic of it taken with an old 35mm SLR ,theres a pci of it on my myspace page if anyones interested (same username as this comment) it was indeed strangely serene to watch-at least from a safe distance!

  • wow,, that is beautiful but also eerie at the same time...

  • why is it so calming to see this???

    or is it just me?

  • I agree -- it was simultaneously violent and relaxing. Weird.

  • ive seen that over pakistan, india, sumatera and singapore/malaysia

  • that's fucking beautiful.

  • aint it? i had lightning storms on the way to spain, quite similar actually, not as amazing but fantastic to watch, its also strange how we forget about everythin on the ground, i think pilots had the best job ever, abover the clouds is a different lovely world

  • Spectacular video and thanks for sharing, but if you were halfway home you must have been around the Carolinas. I don't think they are any strangers to T-storms in July. Must have been a new pilot.

  • I saw a scene exactly like this last night from my airplane window flying between Chicago and California! I couldn't believe how frequenly/continuous the lightning was.

  • Would love to see some of this in slow motion. Then you could really see the lightning and the cloud structures the flashes would reveal.

  • i flew to san antonio in a thunderstorm and we almost crashed because 2 of our engines failed

safe to say i really dont want to fly again

  • UMMMM....thunderstorms RARE in JULY? Wha??

  • KrystalFrizz: I agree, that flight attendant didn't have a clue. Thunderstorms are very common in July, especially over the Atlantic Gulf stream current.

  • Very nice, reminds me of flying from FLL to LGA recently on Spirit Airlines around 5am you could see the most beautiful lightning display all around us. We were flying slighlty above those clouds until our idiot pilot decided to fly straight through one of them.

  • There's a gremlin on the wing of the plane - LOOK OUT!

  • Thats gorgeous. Can't wait to fly the skies!
