Wow, this.is.bad. And I like Marc Almond. It just doesn't have the raw sexuality to it like Eno's has and some other covers of this song I've heard. Too pop and clean and rated G for this song, me no likey. I gave it a try at least.
My boyrfriend and I like this version of baby's on fire better. :) It's great, I absolutely love the opening with the guitar, and the upbeatness of it, and all the poses from Marc :D
:: Thank you for uploading this Brian Eno cover, puremintmusic, & it's brilliant to see Mr. Almond having fully recovered from his near-fatal motorcycle accident. And how! Yoss ~ (•8-D
@456japan - Hi, T-Total are/were an electro house production and remix duo based in London, made up of fabulous Tasty Tim (playing keys in the video) and Robert Michael (who sadly died on 1st March 2007 after a brave fight against cancer) - and who is playing guitar in the video.
They released many great records over the last 10 or so years, including remixes for Apollo 440 and the Pet Shop Boys amongst others. A full discography can be found at discogs.com
wow...please stop destroying Brian Eno's music. We all know he prides more in the music than the lyrics anyway so who the hell do you think you are Mr. Almond?!?!?
Well first, Babys on Fire is a great tune by the mastermind Brian Eno (check out the original) which might be too noisy for ya, but it just phenomenal. It's a fucking beast really.
Second, this version is meh, it's not blasphemous, but Eno had more of a sneer in his singing that made it funnier. This just sounds like disco pop. Not awful, just done before.
I love Marc Almond's work with Soft Cell and even some of his solo stuff but this cover of "Baby's on Fire" does not work. The original takes all the elements of punk, glam-rock, and euro-synth pop and blends it into one brilliant homage. This bouncy remake sounds like outdated disco.
Wow, this video is still just as agonizing to watch as it was the first time. I know what you people are like, considering what happened to my first comments - if someone dislikes something you like, thumb-down their comments like good little thought police to destroy any evidence of people disagreeing with your music taste - but try to rise your natural inclinations, eh? It's bad enough Eno has been rendered as sythpop so sugary, listening to it gives one diabetes concerns. Shame on all of you.
Oh, and, the first time I said this, puremintmusic sent me a smarmy little message asking what music or art *I* had done, to make myself feel worthy enough of saying that this video is as awful as, well, it is. If you must know, check out the band Lillian Gish on myspace. Or in fact The Dead Finks, playing among other things, Eno, on youtube. Or check out The Dogbones, who I managed until recently. Does that make me 'worthy'? Not that you need to be a musician to have an opinion, idiots.
@romeosdistress - your original comment was deleted because it was offensive. No problem with you disagreeing with 'music taste' - just with leaving deliberately inflammatory and antagonistic comments. And why do you keep coming back here to make further comments if you find it so unappealing? That says more about you than any comment you leave here.
I'd rather think of my comments as provocative - hopefully of discussion, rather than receiving thumbs-down for my opinion, which is what I received. My further commenting was more in response to your question of what I have done which puts me in a position to comment on others' music and the reply is quite a bit, though I took pretty great offense to your implication that, were I a "layman" or lowly non-musical civilian, I would have no right to comment on the great Mr Almond, which isn't true.
The thumbs down haven't come from us but other viewers. We only delete comments that are offensive. Others have said they don't like the track, and that is fine, and those comments have remained. No comment was made about your musical ability (or lack of) - just asking you to point us in the direction of 'works' you have been involved with rather than be so negative. Checked out The Dead Finks, not my cup of tea; perhaps, a little like your 'book' infuences, a bit cliched indie student....
I'm afraid my skin's a little thicker than to rise to that. I'd suggest, however, that you try not to be so subjective whilst acting objective as to suggest that I am just some indie student when you clearly were, like Brian Eno or Marc Almond. You've avoided suggesting that my influence or music is bad and even if you think so, my ego can handle it. Not to be too offensive, but you were the ones who put out this bilge, so you disliking what I do, which I hope is the opposite, is hardly worrying
not if you expected me to get in any way emotionally affected by the fact that you - gasp - downrated one of my videos.. you're the one who's found my comments 'offensive' and not the other way round. anyway, behaving like an adult as I think you should be I'm sure that you've released some very good songs in your time, as I know I have. I don't like this cover of Baby's On Fire, you apparently didn't like Be My Heroin, oh well. Let's move on, shall we ?
Thanks for your kind comment. The video was shot only a few months after he left hospital and Marc was amazing that day! Very professional and a pleasure to work with. Cheers.
I am a big Eno fan (and also a big Almond fan), and I must confess I actually rather like this. It's camp, it's completely over the top, but it is a faithful cover. The video is pretty funky too.
Maybe not Almond's best work, but still a worthwhile addition to his catalogue in my view.
Thanks for your comment and support. Marc made the top himself especially for the video shoot back in 2005. It is his homage to the Eno original. Sadly Robert - on guitar in the video - has passed on..and is much missed by all of us at the label.
me gusta como suena esta canción, es agradable a los oídos. En cuanto a que es marica o afeminado o gay , es cierto pero su forma de ser es así desde antes que apareciera la Sanchez.

Sorry, but this this is really bad. I love the original (by Eno!) and I've loved both Marcs and T-Totals earlier stuff (check out Marcs Mother Fist and Her Five Daughters for a truly great listening experience)but this is just Marc trying to find an edge which he lost many years ago:(
id never seen or heard of that song before! wow, i love marc, he's such a queen but so genuine. he put's 100% into his performance, ive seen him live a few times, amazing stuff. i hope he live's to one million year's old. go mark! your a star!!!
In fact - Brian Eno was the first to record the track (he wrote it too!). That was back in 1973/1974 and it was on the album "Here Come the Warm Jets", so a little before Velvet Goldmine me thinks :-)
If Marc Almond is covering this because he's a fan of Eno's mid-70s work, great. Nothing wrong with a little homage. If the YT comments lead people to the brilliance that is Eno's "Here Come The Warm Jets," and the original of this song, with Robert Fripp's fine guitar work, even better. I have no reason to listen to this cover again, but there are worse ways to spend 4 minutes.
