some things save time, for instance using chorder to map the harmonies i can then just aim them at wivi and wivi does the divisi of the parts automatically so that bari sax plays the bottom and lead trumpet the top and everything in between is orchestrated right.
otherwise id have to map to individual midi channels and id run out.
this setup is aimed for someone who isnt the band leader and has to react quickly to cues and songs as theyre called.
at 3:15 i turn off the vl70-m output and the rest of the video uses the laptop vsti's only.
you can hear the vl70-m from 1:56 until 3:15 and those are the sounds that keep it in my setup, "hendrix" lead guitar, "toots" chromatic harmonica,"spanish" acoustic guitar, "voxflute" pan flute, and violin. those sounds were all from the patchman bank 1.
wx5 into vl70-m into m-audio firewire 410 interface into laptop, then when i want the vl70-m audio to be muted i just select a preset on it with its volume turned all the way down so only the laptop sounds are heard.
i havent used any. i always play in bands. the closest i have is the jamey aebersold series and thats really meant for practice and study more than performance backing.
i could probably do it tho, i know i can run winamp in the background behind my system and still have things work smoothly, i have winamp use the onboard audio outputs on the laptop while my system uses the m-audio firewire410 so itd be easy to mix the 2 at the mixer.
sadder still is i know all the horn parts and yet none of the lyrics. if i had to sing it itd be ummm hmm uhh mm uhh uhh hmm but you know it dont come easy...etc.
Fascinating - I'm going to have to watch this a few times to get it all! I prefer Sony ACID for music making with my WX5, but WIVI doesn't seem to work quite right with my version of ACID (to be fair, it's not a supported sequencer).
I'm just starting to get into Reaper, so if I can make it work well with the WX5 and WIVI I'll post a video myself. Does the Yamaha hardware synth sound as good as WIVI?
reaper works well with wx5 and wivi, it might work better but im not hip to it yet to try and redo this .
as to what sounds better its down to which sound exactly and how i feel that day.
wivi is polyphonic, vl70m is not, and does the automatic divisi of parts so that bari sax is on the bottom and lead trumpet on top of the voicing, for instance. combined with chorder thats pretty fun.
acid would be cool on a seperate pc for me, i never press play on my laptop its just a realtime rack.
its was only work accumulated over time.

too complicated for me,i just use Mixcraft 5 and akai EWI
musicomputer 1 year ago
@musicomputer I'm gonna look into that. This is a good idea, but there has to be a more efficient way to go about it.

you can use with the Akai EWI 4000s

I noticed you used the VL70-m tone generator. Is there a software equivilent, or is the VL still the best companion for the WX5?

@TonyOstinato Are you using to connect the WX5 to the laptop? USB to MIDI cord?

Is it possible to go into the laptop WITHOUT the VL70-m?

@thapreacha
yes, you'd load the ww5 with the batteries and use a midi cord, its heavier then tho.
