Dave Thrush will be doing a LIVE interview on Ethan Tudor W's "The Neverhood Show" at Blog Talk Radio, Monday Oct. 25th at 10am (PST). Dave will be on to talk about his days touring with Christian Superstar "Steve Taylor", and will be taking LIVE call in questions from the fans. It's at The Neverhood Show, at Blog Talk Radio Dot Com, The LIVE call in number is 1-347-324-3691. Dave Thrush was the Sax Player with "Steve Taylor & Some Band" for MOST of Steve's touring career.
I believe Steve actually wrote this before the Baker/Swaggert stuff broke in the news. "On the Fritz" was recorded in 1985. According to a book I have here, the Baker stuff didn't become public until '86, and, right after that, came the allegations against Swaggert. So, whenever I hear this song, I wonder if he truly was led to write this by the Spirit of God (truly a prophecy of things to come).
Steve Taylor was and is still both a genius and a prophet. Although he was talking about Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker, he could be talking about Ted Haggard and Larry Craig.
Literally grew up with this guy (who is, indeed, brilliant). Was a fan from age 5, met him several times. (Cornerstone, etc.)Truly a genius, and the suit does, indeed, rock! Remember seeing it live.
a genius beyond his time... I had the chance to meet him and tour him around Orlando one time he was here on tour (with the newsboys and all-star united) He publicly thanked me in front of 6,000 peeps... he is more brilliant than I could have ever imagined and nicer than pie :) He even asked me for my opinion on a project he was working on...
You can't go wrong with a drummer named Cactus, lots of smoke and purple lights, and a confetti-covered white bozewacker Zoot suit. Although the best part of this show was when he came out dressed as Mrs. Aryan! ST, if you weren't all about pullin' people closer, I would have worshipped you!
Actually, Dave Thrush was playing the sax. Cactus Moser was no longer a member of some band when this was recorded in August of 1985. Teryl Bryant from the British band Iona was behind the kit that night.
If it's anywhere on Youtube, Steve Taylor released a concept video for "On the Fritz" from his album Liver. It's much heavier than the studio version of the song.

Taylor was a bright shining light in the 1980s Christian music scene. His lyrics challenged believer and non-believer alike. Kudos to a fine artist.

Contempory christian music is boring.
Back in the 70s and 80s they knew how to rock & have fun while still sending a positive message.

I agree, it all sounds the same. Give me Larry Norman or the REZ Band. down with Air 1 and Klove!!!!!

Thanks for the Steve Taylor video. Love this song! Sounds like some current events in the church. Maybe Steve is the real prophet. . . .
