How do I get to the part that he gets to at 15:50 without the master key? Because I cannot get the master key and I have no idea how to get through to where he is going. Please help ASAP.
I HEAVILY disagree with your VIT and END pumping. Stats have a HUGE effect on weapons strength (atleast until you get to the soft cap on each stat of about 40-50) And then after you hit that cap you start using weapons that scale with your skills. Its really the only way to do well once the game decides to screw you over. And the build will still be viable in NG+ and PVP. Also, i think its a horrible idea to up VIT and END so early when you could almost have 40 DEX and be owning already.
@xThunderxWolfx I'm pretty sure he will be using elemental weapons as soon as he can, so there is no point in raising str and dex. Also it gives a huge advantage to you in pvp when you have higher hp and end, while an overall lower soul level due to low str and dex.
@xThunderxWolfx people with high str and dex are lvl 70+. You can be a level 30, have fully upgraded lightning weapon, havel's armour, and be ninja-flipping all over the place by only raising end and hp. Where your counterparts at level 30 who raised str and dex will never have as much hp and end, and won't be able to roll around in heavy armour.
@zzzIdividedbyzerozzz You only need vitality if you suck. I can win 99% of pvps and pves without getting hit, and i can do enough damage to one shot your lvl30 vit/end hybrid.
@zzzIdividedbyzerozzz And you can't flip in Havel's armor at that low of a level. You can barely roll with FaP ring and Havel's ring with all your points into END.
Hey NL, do you have any extra tips on how to get past blighttown because i keep getting killed there, i have the same exact build as you, same class and armor. the only difference is that i have a black knight's sword. i keep getting swarmed and killed by mosquitoes and dart blowers.
@ShadowBlade31 Equip the spider shield for extra poison resist (found in the depths). Apart from that, keep your bow equipped in your alternate slot for your right hand so you can easily switch to it. If you see mosquitos, switch to it and target them to kill them easily. Dart guys are just a pain in the ass unfortunately.

I have a tip/request thing. If you go to the left of the swamp area in blightown (assuming the side with the boss on it is the right) and go up this tree root into a hollowed out tree, you will find an item. to the left of this item is a fake wall!!!! which leads to a chest. behind this is ANOTHER fake wall which leads to two entirely secret areas. Not sure if you have found this before but definitely have a look as they are pretty dam cool!
Rian, MAJOR TIP for blighttown: get back to the valley of the drakes and get the spider shield from the bridge to a large gate over there. it blocks 100% poison and toxin from attacks. it also blocks 100% physical damage.
Im not sure what it is but almost every video that Northernlion puts up has a very almost cocaine like addictiveness to it. I sure hope I'm the only one that checks my phone every hour to see if a new dark souls has been uploaded, but anyways love the LP so far as well as the way your not using exploits makes me happy. keep it up big guy
15 dmg per hit is what happens when you use a sharp cutting weapon against basically a stone enemy. This is why you want to buff a variety of items - a blunt, heavy weapon would take out those giants *much* quicker.
Your LP wants me to pick the game up and try again. Before I never had any real motivation to play. The game is so vague with its story and everything and the way the levels flow it doesn't feel TOO open-worldish to me so I was wondering...In your first play through how did you go about doing things? Because I think one of the reasons I stopped playing was just because it's so broad with everything I had no clue what to do. But on the other hand I don't want to just follow someone else's guide.

I don't see you repairing your armor much..unless you do it off camera. Also are you gonna be going more in depth with the different covenants, I wonder which one your gonna choose.
the only thing I wish you would do that would make this LP better is to tell us about the characters. I know the game doesn't do much to inform but it would be interesting if you could give tidbits on plot... that said I watched epicnamebro's lore speculation and was a bit lost...
@luketheflug EpicNameBro's lore series is really good so far but I can see how you'd be lost if you're not familiar with the universe. My suggestion would be to either finish the game/finish this Let's Play and then watch (youtube username) Quelaag's videos about the story to get a firmer grasp on the fundamentals. After that, ENB will make more sense.
Have you ever tried what I do, First bell > The area with the butterfly > The basement, I find that the levels and such help with the lower area, and in the foresty area there the attacks are pretty slow, and you can just beat down on em for some extra souls, Any thoughts?
Hey NL, What are the benefits of being summoned/Invading someone? I don't think I've heard you talk about that yet. Also do you lose all your stuff if you die while doing one or the other?
@LuckyJ0n If you are summoned and help the host beat the boss, you're rewarded with 1 soft humanity (the counter in the top left goes up) plus a whole lot of souls. If you invade someone and kill the host, you get 1 humanity and some souls (not as much - depends on host's soul level). Neither have any real risk attached which is why they're so much fun.
@Northernlion you could or you just ignore the gargoyles and head down that what i did on my first play through and found killling the butterfly to be much easier than the gargoyles
ccqte's plan of attack was also mine, sort of. I remember that the Gargoyle's achieved about 10 deaths in my 194 demises list. Eventually I examined the darkroot areas first, taking care of rampant weed and slaughtering more or less innocent butterflies before destroying those bloody winged nightmares. this game seems to be quite tough and sometimes could be a bit frustrating, but people still love it because they like the challenge. and furthermore, so many people petitioned for a transfer to PC.

I'm pretty sure everyone telling you to put points in strength haven't played the game. They may be coming from games like Diablo where those stats mean the difference between life and death, and they don't comprehend the way the game mechanics of this game vary greatly from traditional RPGs.
Guys, at this point in the game adding points to str AND/OR dex, does almost nothing in terms of damage. Upgrading the weapons makes ALL the difference. Survivability makes all the difference here
Btw NL, have you tried combust? I personally like it better than fireball because of its speed and 16 uses for one attunement slot. Loving the LP so far.
Facepalming at the complete ignorance in stating Str/Dex aren't important. Yeah, if you want your damage to be shit and dpn't want to be able to equip anything!
You did 15 damage because your Strength stat is 10 and because you're using a sword versus an armored golem. And who does Darkroot after Anor Londo? You do the Butterfly for the souls and Ember before Blighttown. This is how you get a supply of purple moss for free.
@ChibiSoma I completely disagree with you on the strength but at least you're more civil this time. If I'm building a dex character, better to not put points in STR and put them in DEX later so that I get scaling bonuses. Not like I'm having trouble cutting the enemies down right now anyway.
Also, the beauty of Dark Souls is that you can do areas pretty much in whatever order you want.
@Northernlion That is all true, but when it comes to hitting down certain enemies, it really is all in the weapon, you could have like 40 STR, and still not phase it much, for very solid enemies and such, magic damage, such as lightning, magic, or fire would help, hence a good reason NL is getting the Quelaag sword, or however you spell it, and the higher level you are, the higher level the enemies are too, moderation is a big key here.
@tibertruth If you have the master key you should go in the back entrance of Blighttown through New Londo Ruins -> Valley of the Drake and fight the boss there. If not, you're gonna have to go the whole way through Blighttown to get to the boss (required to beat it to ring the second bell).
@ChibiSoma He is right, if he wants to use dexterity weapons it makes sense he won't put points into strength. I personally love strength and disagree with him that leveling isn't important but he is right, the beauty of dark souls is he will be just as effective with whatever load out he chooses as I would be with my load out. Also I did the moonlight butterfly after I got the lordvessel as well, didn't see a reason to go there before that.

Northernlion might be smart to mention the spider shield, it blocks all poison and toxic damage and has a 100% physic dmg. It's located in the Depths.
I may get some biased replies but if I had a choice to buy one game, should I get Skyrim or Dark Souls? I know they're completely different games but certain aspects seem similar.
@GoIbat i don't know. skyrim is more about exploration and quests. dark souls is a combat based rpg. as you can see, there's very little story in dark souls. skyrim can offer a good challenge as well if you play on master and use some mods like "wars in skyrim" or more powerfull dragons (can't remember the name of this one). if you can, get both, hehe.

The difference between this LP and all the blind LPs out there is really apparent when you do the postmortems at the end of each episode.
Northernlion: In this episode, we defeated the Moonlight Butterfly, opened up the shortcut to Blighttown, and fought Maneater Mildred.
Blind LP: In this episode, we got THIS CLOSE to killing the Capra Demon after a thousand on-camera attempts. Maybe next time!

I'm pretty sure everyone telling you to put points in strength haven't played the game. They may be coming from games like Diablo where those stats mean the difference between life and death, and they don't comprehend the way the game mechanics of this game vary greatly from traditional RPGs.

Guys, at this point in the game adding points to str AND/OR dex, does almost nothing in terms of damage. Upgrading the weapons makes ALL the difference. Survivability makes all the difference here
Btw NL, have you tried combust? I personally like it better than fireball because of its speed and 16 uses for one attunement slot. Loving the LP so far.

the moonlight butterfly soul also can be used to create a magic spear that scales with int. and maybe faith but its been a while

Facepalming at the complete ignorance in stating Str/Dex aren't important. Yeah, if you want your damage to be shit and dpn't want to be able to equip anything!

You did 15 damage because your Strength stat is 10 and because you're using a sword versus an armored golem. And who does Darkroot after Anor Londo? You do the Butterfly for the souls and Ember before Blighttown. This is how you get a supply of purple moss for free.

@ChibiSoma I completely disagree with you on the strength but at least you're more civil this time. If I'm building a dex character, better to not put points in STR and put them in DEX later so that I get scaling bonuses. Not like I'm having trouble cutting the enemies down right now anyway.
Also, the beauty of Dark Souls is that you can do areas pretty much in whatever order you want.

@Northernlion That is all true, but when it comes to hitting down certain enemies, it really is all in the weapon, you could have like 40 STR, and still not phase it much, for very solid enemies and such, magic damage, such as lightning, magic, or fire would help, hence a good reason NL is getting the Quelaag sword, or however you spell it, and the higher level you are, the higher level the enemies are too, moderation is a big key here.

@tibertruth If you have the master key you should go in the back entrance of Blighttown through New Londo Ruins -> Valley of the Drake and fight the boss there. If not, you're gonna have to go the whole way through Blighttown to get to the boss (required to beat it to ring the second bell).

@ChibiSoma He is right, if he wants to use dexterity weapons it makes sense he won't put points into strength. I personally love strength and disagree with him that leveling isn't important but he is right, the beauty of dark souls is he will be just as effective with whatever load out he chooses as I would be with my load out. Also I did the moonlight butterfly after I got the lordvessel as well, didn't see a reason to go there before that.

@ChibiSoma Your the type that depends on guides and wikis to get through games. While I'm sure NL has checked outside sources for some tips n tricks he isn't reliant on it. You and your comment "who does butterface after anor londo" is very telling! In other words all your doing is regurgitating info our betters have long since found out for themselves (and generously passed onto the community). That is fine and all to do such but don't expect everyone else to play the same way silly chibi.

@GoIbat i don't know. skyrim is more about exploration and quests. dark souls is a combat based rpg. as you can see, there's very little story in dark souls. skyrim can offer a good challenge as well if you play on master and use some mods like "wars in skyrim" or more powerfull dragons (can't remember the name of this one). if you can, get both, hehe.

@TheScousePCGamer Open your inventory and use the Darksign. If it isn't a useable item, excuse my stupidity, I've never been dumb enough to get into the position in which I have to use it, but I remember being able to use the Nexial Binding from Demon's Souls.
