whether you love or hate metallica they deserve this award simply for showing there sheer will at survival in the music industry. there may be other band out there (like Iron Maiden as some have suggessted) that deserve it just as much, if not more depending on your opinion but at least Metallica has opened up the door for more metal bands to enter the hall of fame.

As much as I like Metallica (and I do love their music), I think the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation really screwed up by not inducting a band that is more deserving which is Iron Maiden. I know these guys were a huge influence on Metallica and their road they have paved has made it possible for Metallica to exist (in part). History and legacy count I think and its disrespectful to not induct Iron Maiden....still selling out large shows and stills rockin'.

Coming from both a Metallica and Megadeth fan. Metallica earned this, I know they invited Mustaine to attend but I still think they should've given him a more personal shout out rather than Hetfields half-hearted "All members of Metallica here... or not here, thank you so much for being you" since he was a founding member with some of the original music.

But that somewhat beside the point, Metallica KICKS ASS and they deserved this, so congrats to them and long live Metallica and Heavy Metal!

THese guys have been enjoying the trappings of fame for too long. Lead gtr has lost his marbles thinking they're still relevant, Lars loves listening to himself talk, although his sentiment is real. I'm glad Hetfield cleaned up, but it seems to have taken the balls out his music and some of the sense out of his brain. Oh well, aging and rocknroll don't really mix. Hetfield thanking Lars just shows you that vox, drums and gtr were the kernel, and bass is XTRA.

Wow, the transformation of James is incredible. It really, really is. So inspiring. All the speeches - but James in particular - encapsulate why Metallica are so popular.
