I would like to thank god, my family and everyone here on youtube for the fact that neither one of the top two comments are related to the quality of the video. God bless you and good night
@awesomemcnugget - actually the chinbeard was around before this, in the beatnik era late 50s early 60s, but i do agree these kids could pass as modern kids today.
Too cool....the dancers, the nerdy keyboard player, the sideburns on the singer, that groovy 60s chord progession. And, if you are in Minnesota, the Castaways are playing the Apple Valley American Legion THIS WEEKEND!
@uberalles2 Pixelated? Analog pure analog. In the 60s if you would have said codecs they would have looked at you like you had two heads or something.
@surferlaments ... For us guys in SoCal in those days this was the sound track to our surfing perfomances. It wasn't exactly surf music but it was aggressive.
it gets better after the beginning.. and Bitchin, yeah that IS a good word for it.. thanks for this! qualitiy was what it was, its 'still here' rite..? yeah...... a find!
Fender Rhodes organ?...dunno, but whatever it is it makes all the difference in this little mid 60's chestnut of a song....dig the chinstrap beard on the guitarist lol
@Fenderstrat1313 There are a lot of good "one hit wonders" on YouTube from the 1960s and 1970s. This song came out when I was nine, and I still enjoy it. Happy Hunting!
@Fenderstrat1313 I remember when this one came out, even though I was quite young. Loved it then and it still sounds great, the sign of a true classic.
@GOTTERDAMMERUNGSR Oops! Not quite....they're a Minneapolis, Minnesota garage band. Played at high school dances for us. I'm 60 and remember them well.
I'm 61 and I owned the Fender Jaguar guitar that was played on this song!! Fender does not even make it anymore...and yes I am from Minneapolis.....many, many garage bands and Bob Dylan too!! Dinkytown and the Riverside Cafe on the West bank rocked in those days!!
@welchjj The guitarist is using a Rickenbacker, no Jag in sight! Bassist with a Fender Jazz Bass. What Fender Jaguar are you referring to??? (june 10 2011)
Thanks for posting this. I liked the song, but never knew anything about the band. I always imagined a 2 man combo with a guitar and a keyboard playing Holiday Inn lounges. LOL
@FoxRunMan Welcome to Minneapolis, MN. Land of snow and cold. Except, we welcome warm folks like you. I danced to the Castaways when I was a teen...I'm 60 now and still love them. Keep in touch. D.
@debbiedamoose Thanks for the welcome. I'm 66 and live in Colorado, so I know something about snow and cold. LOL I only knew these guys from their one hit on Top 40 radio back in the day, so it was fun to see the video of them.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
"Holy Caroly!" This is a real find. Just under 2 minutes long, short and so great. They were innovators as they had the young lady dancing the Frug out in front! Take note Lady Ga Ga! See back in the day you could get a garage band of no names on the radio. It was pioneer days son, not big money like today. Anyway thaks guys for a real goovin super classic! This is getting down!
There was a time when music could be as fun as it could be serious. The 60's were truly a revolutionary time for music. I miss the excitement of it all. Songs like this are why.
This song was huge during the summer of 65. It also reminds me of the L.A. Watts riots, because the song was in my head from listening to it on the radio, then coming back from Huntington Beach with my parents, when I was 10 years old. We got in the house and freaked-out at watching the riots unfold, that same day.
@glaetze I recall the time, too. My parents had planned to take a trip to Europe and cancelled because ofd the riots. My dad was offered two tickets to a Dodger game, but my mother wouldn't let us go. I remember the song from that moment in time. On channel 9, there was a commercial for "9th Street West" that showed dancers dancing to "Liar, Liar." One of the most memorable summers of my life.
Have mercy. What a cool song. Thanks to Guy Ritchie for including it in his movie "Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels". This song playing during the card game was a highlight of the movie. Now to go find some of their CDs.
This song is bitchin'! Under 2 minutes even! LOL My Dad had this recorded on his Sony reel recorder when he was in the Army in Germany from 66' to 67'.
This is surely as perfect a pop song as you're likely to hear. Killer bassline too. These old 60s shows looked great fun, with the dancers bouncing around in the background! It's impossible not to feel good after listening to this.
This was on the play list of the real Mods, back in 1965. There were no Punks back then, well, not in the UK, at least. There were Rockers, but they didn't buy into our culture at all. So, about 45years old, yet it still feels as fresh as the day it got released.
