I've always found these String Tribute performances to be a pretty frustrating listen, especially when they interpret heavier bands.
They don't really seem to understand to try to keep some of the dynamics of the original music that they are playing, which is odd considering how important it is in classical music . Another source of annoyance is the way they utilize legato. They often have an awful Country/Western flavour to them, almost like a slide guitar.
I love tool and classical music and this is "good enough"
BUT....
I must admit i am quite disappointed with the arrangement and transcription. I have the whole album of this and so many parts don't match the actual song's metre, rhythm articulation, sound and or feel (from a production standpoint) which is sad, cause many end up sounding like a cheap rip-off instead of a worthwhile tribute.
I'm really happy with the idea,...just wish someone would make a better (accurate) version : (
ooooo if my teacher has us do a movie trailer for a book, this is so gonna be the background music. i also wanna mix this with the original song. how kick ass will that sound?! :D TOOL FOREVERRRR
When my son was 4 we were in the car and I was playing one of my Tool CDs and he said, "Mom, Tool music is like listenign to Math." That's when I knew he was going to be brilliant, lol. He's 11 now and is a year ahead in school and in all the gifted classes, and still a huge Tool fan.
@AlluringShrew im 14 and im can do almost everything in my head get it right and astound teachers. Its kinda funny, because i been listening to tool ever since i could remeber.
@AlluringShrew Okay, I know you made this comment two years ago. Don't care. Just gotta say it. That is a fucking great story. All the best to you and your son.
Tool is just so hard to cover. I like the cellos but this isn't very close. I like all their other works. It's very hard to cover progressive with cello and violin or whatever I guess.
i understand where ur coming from. i think this is a lot more gentle than perhaps it should have been. the bass powerchords in the beginning could have been accented in the cellos more, and more could be done with texturing to give the vocal line a more abrasive tone to emulate maynard. this is more like an arrangement rather than a cover.
hahaha....you are crazy, dude...definitely...this has none whatsofreakingever connection to Apocalyptica...they never covered any TooL songs...only Metallica's...
I think the band is called Anatomica...or sth like that...not sure...but it is definitely not Apocalyptica...damn...
back in high school we had this art teacher named Mr.Chapa. He always played classical music. I guess that what got me in to the love for classical music too. I wish i could play this back then art would be waaay better.
It's the strings guys, the most emotionally powerful instruments! :p Tool's songs transposed through orchestration just emphasises the emotive energy of their songs.
i downloaded this torrent with like 40 string tribute albums.. it was amazing... pink floyd, led zepp, tool, chilli peppers and like heaps more. but i dunno why soad was not on there!! Tool was just amazing tho.. better than all the others.
so great, dramatic n crazy DA HECK why r nt they s famous as tool by itself? ^^ nah i really love tool n they r just a little bit better i ld say, but THEY r great
i would give the stringquartet a complete suckin movie n they would make a good 1 out of it, just with their great music!!!
I simply love it. Like the originals I can tell a difference between them and APC. My opinion is the string quartet tribute to sober is so much more...close to it than the 3 Libras version. It just that right when it starts off it pulls you in. And it has this eerie dark edge that I know and love.
All of their Tool tribute albums are amazing. It's an incredible listening experience separate from the original. Astonishing stuff. Recommended highly.
This was great! Perhaps something could have been done to add to the 'vocal' piece.. Otherwise this was great I can see why rock/metal and classical music is not such a strange mix now.
k forma de tokar, las canciones de tool son una maestria y string quartet les da un gran toque, lo cambia radicalmente pero consigue manteren un gran sonido
Creepy... But in a good way.
