Why do some people think that Filipino and Tagalog are the same. They're not. Filipino was initially based on Tagalog but it has evolved now. For example, plato, pero, alas-nueve, dugyot, praning are Filipino words but not Tagalog. Because in Tagalog, those words are pinggan, subalit/datapuwat, ika-siyam, kadiri, sira-ulo. See the difference? Filipino is a new language invented to be the national language of the Philippines. It has many lawn words from Tagalog,Spanish,Ilocano,Bisaya­,English,etc.

@marc2323 Our official language is Filipino (comprises of Tagalog and all other dialects spoken in the Philippines), and yes, the people of the Philippines is also called Filipino. Don't say that the language of our country is only Tagalog 'cause it would be rude for others.
