For something to be popular it only has to be a hit amongst a very small target demographic (teenage girls). Then it becomes more popular because of it's popularity, especially amongst teenagers because at that age you tend to follow every fad. And because everyone else thinks it sucks people who never wanted to see it have to see what all the fuss is about. If you really hate something, just pretend it doesn't exist and hope it dies out, that's what I do.

@ArsonistInUrFirewall no, when I was 13 and the first movie came out, I thought Edward looked weird. and if you've ever seen pics of Robert Pattinson on the red carpet, he looks like a hobo somebody stuck in a suit.
And ever if he WAS hot, it couldn't make up for what the horribly sexist (even though it was written by a woman, all the female characters are 2D characters, who only seem to think about shopping and boys) and cliche 'plotline'.

The thing I have with Twilight that just pisses me off is one;not only is it crap but the message it sends to girls my age (16+) is that destructive behavior and ignorance as well as the fact that its popularity is just based off of sex appeal and a false sense of what a relationship actually is.
I know both teenagers and woman that have gone back to a abusive relationship with their ex's just because they remind them of the characters or think they know a true relation for them

I was I Twilight fan, but I'm not anymore. I don't exactly know why I loved it so much. I was in the 6th grade when I started reading them. I was young and I guess I thought that the idea of a vampire loving you was exciting. Now, when I look back, Bella is an emotionless Mary Sue, and Edward is just.....a twat. The hype eventually faded for me, and I hate it now. It really is just awful.

@EmbraceDorkhood ? All that was in the first one sweetie, which I saw for laughs. And with that acting, you really can't stop laughing..also helps when a bottle of Jack is involved. The whole stalking and sitting in your room without your knowledge or permission was in the first one. No I have no idea what happens in the second one or the new one because I got my fill in one sitting. Twilight explains every reason why I hate girls in this generation, so yeah have a lot of "feelings" about it.

I don't see why they had to make movies out of the Twilight series. There are much better movies than Twilight. Hell, Artemis Fowl is a better series that can be made into a movie. Mostly because it has an original spin to usualy cliche' things and not emo-zombie-hollow-ish like Twilight. Not only that, anything is better than Twilight. For something to be popular it only has to be a hit amongst a very small target demographic (teenage girls). Then it becomes more popular because of it's popularity, especially amongst teenagers because at that age you tend to follow every fad. And because everyone else thinks it sucks people who never wanted to see it have to see what all the fuss is about. If you really hate something, just pretend it doesn't exist and hope it dies out, that's what I do.

I have made sure that I have not and will never have any contact with anything that resembles this twilight crap. Some girls I know say that the books were great but the movies do suck. So maybe the story in the book is better than the story in the movie. That to me sounds reasonable enough, but that's already more time than I want to have wasted on those stupid twilight books (which again I will never read). Sitting down to a game like say, "Half-Life" and shotgunning some heads is just better.
