People wonder if the gov't would let the levees break on purpose. How about they let the levees go knowing that the area could potentially yield millions more in tax revenue, tourist revenues, casino revenues than the folks who formerly lived there. Look who'd buying up the region if you doubt me. Look what's going to happen in 5-7 years. Eminent domain brought to you by the hand of gawd!
I think they shld abandon the area maybe, since it is so prone 2 flooding y not have lower ninth ward lake otherwise dredge sand and mud somewhere else and level up the ground
i live here and i believe they broke the levee and destroyed this area as well. and everyone says y do we live here? here is home and anywhere else u go there will b a differnt natural disaster that happens in that geographical area. like earthquakes in california. if everyone ran from natural disaster where the fuck would we all stay?
@kstone0550 why would the federal government destroy the levees? they had to spend billions of dollars on relief and reconstruction and clean up and other things. it makes no since..the government couldn't get any benefit from destroying a city..and when people say ignorant things it just makes me wonder how people could think that..its so stupid
@uptownla5o4 Im not saying that k-stone is correct but there have been time where levees have been intentionally breached so that some of the water can run off to prevent a complete destruction. It could be that this was done and it got out of hand. Again, im not saying thats what did happen but I am saying that it has in fact happened before for example in 1927 at Caernarvon, Louisiana they used dynamite to flood st bernard parish.
I am appalled that the people dont understand that people want to be bak in their own homes & neighborhoods(smh) Its almost like they are sayn F**k da low-income families! This is the richest country in da world & they cant even help their own people but they can go overseas & assist other countries well-being
The reason they're not rebuilding is because its gonna happen again eventually. The repairs to the levees are something like 10 billion dollars. They don't have that kind of money to repair all the levees so the next hurricane that comes through is gonna do the same thing.
@MizzyTheQueen So you think they should rebuild there and let a million people move back in and then another Hurrican comes in an floods them under 40ft of water and another thousand people die? All you gotta do is look at documentaries its not the governments fault they had thousands of boats and helicopters to try and rescue people its not like they did nothing and watched people die.. They should tear down all the buildings that are left and make a huge park. Not let people move back there.
@XLValenciaXL I don't agree with that at all... This is America we're talking about, look at the Netherlands Levee system. Your telling me America can't do that? Wait, I shouldn't be surprised by that!
This is just so sad... all these empty homes... forgive me if you find this ignorant, but I believe the American government should be so ashamed for the way they've handled this situation. From immediate relief - to re-building. Shame, shame, shame.
@stace929 I agree. Theyre able to make get halfway around the world on short notice within hours but nola spent days under water before anyone surprised. george w bush wouldnt even end his vacation early to make a plan of action for recovery. smh.
What happened to all these people that lived in these homes I wonder? We should be more gratefull for the things we all take for granted! A safe home for our family. My thoughts and prayers are with each one of you. As a caring neighbour (Canadian) I think of all of you often..

Who the heck wants to go live in a place, where the water can come at the whim of a hurricane?
