  • Great scrum lesson! Im from Sweden were the scrums are like giveaways and nobody really got any tactice they just "push and pray" i realy think that this cind of tequnice in the binding are gonna help us improve our scrum and hopfely gonna make us win more scrums. THX from Aquilas Rugby Örebro in Sweden. Ps: Excuse my bad english :P

  • hey tommyb1434, id hate to be in a scrum with you, apparently winning the ball in the scrum doesnt rate in your top 4, do you even play rugby ?

  • @TheMeatPalace lol he plays tag ;)

  • @TheMeatPalace lol i dont think he does

  • These boys look so inexperienced

  • amerikaner marinen.. ive been a hooker for four years now and i think its a great position.. what does he do? loads actually.. sets the front row up for the scrum, calls the driving calls usually, throws the ball in at lineouts, i do lots of open running play and most definitely rucking =D

  • yes

  • I'm a little new to the sport. I hope you can help me. I understand all the positions and their jobs in the penalty play..

I can understand most about the general play.

But the one guy I never hear about is the Hooker.

What does he usually do around the field? Rucking or..no?

  • well all forwards need to ruck, at least once every two rucks really.

But he really needs to have a good solid straight throw in the line-out (esp. for lifting) and be able to retain his own ball in the scrums. Also he should be able to boss the forwards in the scrum as well.

  • I understand now!

    Thank you for your reply.

  • No problem.

  • you must be a hooker haha

  • nah actually I'm a prop. can't throw to save my life.

  • the most important job for the hooker is to get the prop's ass as down as possible in the scrum XDDDD

  • Generally, hookers are the most mobile of the tight five.

If your mate goes down, you go into ruck regardless the number on your shirt.

most of the time forwards aren't involve in the set piece of the backs, so it's our job be on their shoulders to offer support and options (but don't stand between 9-10 channel)

  • Thank you! I appreciate your reply.

    I understand now!

  • the hooker is also expected to play like a 4th back row player... his main jobs are...

    1. control the scrum (order the props and second rows to get the right positioning)

    2. throw in the line-out

    3. secure and carry ball in attack

    4. be work-man like in defence

  • thanks dude!

  • Looks like a good coach.

  • this vid is gr8. has helped our team alot

  • this filmed at Fylde RUFC?
