mustangs were built to have lots of torque and pull quickly in a straight line. they're a little heavier but make about 100+ more hp than even a GT ecliplse
on the other hand, the eclipses are lighter, more economical, and in turn probably do better on a real track with lots of turns and etc.
it's a matter of personal tastes, but this race was obvious from the beginning it would be the mustang's.

@chefalan23 Worlds fastest eclipse has is 6s 2nd gen with a shitload of mods. The 4th gen is the fastest and best looking of all by over 1.5 seconds on a 0-60. Go to ripp mods website and you'll see the headers alone add 30BHP. dynoed. The intake would be another 14. Injen i'd go with. They've done tests on this, they have videos of it. They also have a supercharger for it that has 500 HP. Kinda expensive but whatever. If you love your car.

eclipse didnt do too bad to say its v6 about 170 whp compared to the mustang v8 pushin out way more whp. but the gas mileage isnt bad to say its v8 compared to v6 so it goes both ways
well as is in cold weather all its got is 140at about 3,700rpm . even 4.10s will allow me to go to 165 ish at redline. so the gear might actually make it faster in my case because i dont have the power. and i wanna be able to run good in the quarter too

It may be true that the 06-09 Eclipse makes 5 more hp then a 4.6 99-04 Mustang GT BUT the GT weighs less and has over 40 more pounds of torque. Besides a 2000-2005 Eclipse made a measly 200 hp compared to the same year Mustangs 260. Funny when the Eclipse finally gets 260 the Mustang GT got 300 the previous year.....you keep playing catch up.

Mustangs are geared for fuel economy from the factory (3.07:1, I believe). My '02 GT will do around 2,000 RPM at 90 MPH in 5th gear but it kills acceleration. The #1 mod to do to a Mustang for better acceleration is to swap out the ring and pinion, that will REALLY wake up a Mustang. 3.55s if you still do some highway driving, 3.73s if you want neck-snapping power with good fuel economy, 4.10s if you want a stock Mustang to put down high 4 second 60 times and don't give a damn about MPGs.

Yes, 60 MPH lol. Should be able to put down 4.5 with 4.10s and a few bolt ons (CAI, catback, simple stuff like that) and a good launch. I'd rather drive my Mustang @ ~30MPG than my Protege at 33 MPG, much more comfortable and has the power to pull any hill in 5th and pass people if I need to. If you're at 2,000 RPMs at 65-70 you must have 3.27s, mine is at roughly 90 MPH at those RPMs.
thats what i read that came from the factory. she goes damn good for a near stock car. bbk cold air intake and a 78mm tb/plenum. no exhaust yet. gears and exhaust and a tune are next on the list and ill take her to the quarter in the spring if all works out
They go well, but gears make a HUGE difference. Did you notice a difference with the new TB? What does the new tune usually change? I have a Steeda adjustable timing pulley on mine and picked up a noticeable amount of power by bumping the ignition timing (11 degrees is the sweet spot but have to run premium fuel so I keep it at 4 for now).
the throttle body and intake only gave 5mph top end and a bit quicker on the acceleration. its hard for me to tell because i havent had it on the quarter mile so i cant say exactly how much. for the tune ive heard of guys getting 40 hp in some part of the rpm band. and with intake and exhaust upgrades it will level out the air fuel ratios. and that timing pulley is for valve timing isnt it? i thought the fuel was needed for ignition timing.
The 4.6 didn't get VCT until '05, this just advances or retards the ignition timing. 3 screws on the front and you can manually adjust it however you like (like adjusting the distributor on an older car). Stock it has an incredible power band, but if a tune can really do that much over stock it may be worth while.
My Dad has had 2 '01 Bullits (3.73:1 stock, I believe) and in mostly city driving he got 17 MPG, mine does 23-24 which isn't too far off of what my brother gets from his '97 Subaru Legacy.
guess they were both autos. Eclipse seemed to have a very soft take off. Still the mustang usually will win but ive done a good job of holding my ground against the sn95 body style gts when they were stock or had limited mods.
i dont know about that man.. the eclipse in this video is a shitty sad example of an eclipse. its a 3300 lb gt with a 3.0l 24v v6. everyone knows what made the eclipse was the awd turbo package on the lighter frame. this is a 3g. the older 2 and 1g would take out gt mustangs all day... maybe im wrong BOOOSSSSSSSS
Well do you know what twin screw Kenne bells are? They are high performance superchargers that if the mustang's engine is forged and built, can easily make the mustang produce over 600hp on a safe tune. The eclipse may have it on a course, but on a straight away all its gonna do is eat the SC V8's exhaust.

94-95 GT's come with a 5.0 and would pull harder from a start but a 4.6 that's in the 96-98 would defenatly beat it. They stopped making the 5.0 Gt's because they noticed that the 4.6 was putting down better numbers .
the 96-98 GTs put down the same amount of power as the 94-95 5.0s, but with better fuel economy and less cubes. Ford saw this as a significant improvement and decided that is what they would use. then when they went to the New Edge GTs they used the P.I heads and stuff to get the hp up to 260.
I own a GT eclipse too and i'll tell you a GT stang 98 or 99 and newer will slaughter you unless you've got some serious mods. im not sure where the model switched but i know for sure the 99's. they're packing 260hp and 300ft-lbs of torque. They do a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds where the eclipse is about 7. good luck with that.
i know which one i'd rather have in a road course or for everyday driving, plus which one looks better, (well thats a matter of opinion), but facts are mustang gt is faster but eclipse gt is quicker

the 2009 Eclipse gets 16/25 mpg (20 combined) for the manual and 17/25 for the automatic.
The 4.6 liter V8 Mustang gets.
Its fuel economy is 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined.
not as good as the smaller v6 Eclipse but damn good for a v8.

2009 Eclipse has 265 horse power. The 99-2004 Mustang GT had 260 horse power, weighed less and had 302 pounds of torque compared to your 2009's 262.
The 99-04 GT does 0-60 in 5.4 secs and quarter mile time of 14.00 at 99 miles an hour.
A 2005-2009 Mustang GT has 300 horse power and 325 pounds of torque and a 0-60 of 4.9 and 13.5 in the quarter mile....again smoking your 2009 Eclipse.

i got an eclipse gt 00, and im at a light 2 nights ago and i hear this mustang next to me the engine was so loud i didnt even want to look at him, light turns, he takes off and i pretend to drive normal than im right behind him he accelerates already in 3rd his engine mad loud and i took him,, car looks and sound nice but that was all it was.

dude the eclipse are not anything to brag about.i smoked a new one (yes it was a gt) with my 98 mustang gt with a 2000gt swap and few bolt ons..and i was really shocked too see how slow it was

Mustangs are geared for fuel economy from the factory (3.07:1, I believe). My '02 GT will do around 2,000 RPM at 90 MPH in 5th gear but it kills acceleration. The #1 mod to do to a Mustang for better acceleration is to swap out the ring and pinion, that will REALLY wake up a Mustang. 3.55s if you still do some highway driving, 3.73s if you want neck-snapping power with good fuel economy, 4.10s if you want a stock Mustang to put down high 4 second 60 times and don't give a damn about MPGs.

Yes, 60 MPH lol. Should be able to put down 4.5 with 4.10s and a few bolt ons (CAI, catback, simple stuff like that) and a good launch. I'd rather drive my Mustang @ ~30MPG than my Protege at 33 MPG, much more comfortable and has the power to pull any hill in 5th and pass people if I need to. If you're at 2,000 RPMs at 65-70 you must have 3.27s, mine is at roughly 90 MPH at those RPMs.

thats what i read that came from the factory. she goes damn good for a near stock car. bbk cold air intake and a 78mm tb/plenum. no exhaust yet. gears and exhaust and a tune are next on the list and ill take her to the quarter in the spring if all works out

They go well, but gears make a HUGE difference. Did you notice a difference with the new TB? What does the new tune usually change? I have a Steeda adjustable timing pulley on mine and picked up a noticeable amount of power by bumping the ignition timing (11 degrees is the sweet spot but have to run premium fuel so I keep it at 4 for now).

the throttle body and intake only gave 5mph top end and a bit quicker on the acceleration. its hard for me to tell because i havent had it on the quarter mile so i cant say exactly how much. for the tune ive heard of guys getting 40 hp in some part of the rpm band. and with intake and exhaust upgrades it will level out the air fuel ratios. and that timing pulley is for valve timing isnt it? i thought the fuel was needed for ignition timing.

The 4.6 didn't get VCT until '05, this just advances or retards the ignition timing. 3 screws on the front and you can manually adjust it however you like (like adjusting the distributor on an older car). Stock it has an incredible power band, but if a tune can really do that much over stock it may be worth while.

My Dad has had 2 '01 Bullits (3.73:1 stock, I believe) and in mostly city driving he got 17 MPG, mine does 23-24 which isn't too far off of what my brother gets from his '97 Subaru Legacy.

guess they were both autos. Eclipse seemed to have a very soft take off. Still the mustang usually will win but ive done a good job of holding my ground against the sn95 body style gts when they were stock or had limited mods.

i dont know about that man.. the eclipse in this video is a shitty sad example of an eclipse. its a 3300 lb gt with a 3.0l 24v v6. everyone knows what made the eclipse was the awd turbo package on the lighter frame. this is a 3g. the older 2 and 1g would take out gt mustangs all day... maybe im wrong BOOOSSSSSSSS

Well do you know what twin screw Kenne bells are? They are high performance superchargers that if the mustang's engine is forged and built, can easily make the mustang produce over 600hp on a safe tune. The eclipse may have it on a course, but on a straight away all its gonna do is eat the SC V8's exhaust.

94-95 GT's come with a 5.0 and would pull harder from a start but a 4.6 that's in the 96-98 would defenatly beat it. They stopped making the 5.0 Gt's because they noticed that the 4.6 was putting down better numbers .

the 96-98 GTs put down the same amount of power as the 94-95 5.0s, but with better fuel economy and less cubes. Ford saw this as a significant improvement and decided that is what they would use. then when they went to the New Edge GTs they used the P.I heads and stuff to get the hp up to 260.

I own a GT eclipse too and i'll tell you a GT stang 98 or 99 and newer will slaughter you unless you've got some serious mods. im not sure where the model switched but i know for sure the 99's. they're packing 260hp and 300ft-lbs of torque. They do a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds where the eclipse is about 7. good luck with that.
