You need to play all the way through Max Payne the game first before seeing, and epecially before reviewing the movie. The scenes in the game ARE very good and this game had EXCELLENT potential to make a great movie, it's just that THIS particular production did not turn out well.

I agree with you that the movie was not good, but a more informed view is that the movie itself was an injustice to the game's story if not to Wahlberg as well, depending on your opinion of Wahlberg as an actor.

I am/was a huge fan of the Max Payne games. And while I usually dislike what Hollywood does with media that has a cult following, I actually liked the movie. It had nearly all the elements the game did. Yes, it messed the story up a bit, but it didn't suck. If you aren't going to be a fan of, or even play, a game, then don't bash the screen adaptation of it.

And the cutscenes are pretty much pointless to me, sure it makes the story a lot more interesting, but if I already know whats going on, I never going watch them til the end. Its not a bad game, but I've enjoyed MP2 a lot more, but I agree it was pretty short and it was too easy :/

Anyways one of the games i could see made into a movie would be Mass Effect, because it simply has one of the most well written plots of all games ever made. In the story she just kind of tags along as a way to flesh out Max's character to the audience. All in all, I loved the movie but only because I had knowledge of what was actually going on. I of course wouldn't say it was a good movie because it wasn't but instead a thoroughly entertaining one for fans of the game. In the end, its not about a being a good movie but branding and luring a fan base to spend money.

Max Payne was one of the greatest game series of all time. On its own the movie didn't have much to stand on, I agree. The movie waits till more than half way through to explain how Max's family gets murdered which is essential to understand the spite his character wallows in. The game is about Max's life circling the drain as his good cop turned bad develops addictions and a semi-conscious will to die. Mona Sax(Mila Kunis) is supposed to be a character that drives the story forward.
