  • I have a question, whenever I do this at a fast pace right after I let go of the bend the string above lets out an annoying open string tone where my finger obviously slightly brushed it while exiting the bend. How can I get rid of this annoying sound, so it sounds cleaner? Amazing tone you get from that setup by the way!

  • awesomeee this one is the hardest !! i hope after one eyar of practise i will learn it in full speed ;D

  • @mashandflutter could you post the presets?

  • @mashandflutter plz! post your presets!!! plz plz plz!!

  • please could you explain the pic moution.. I think it,s downstroke - downstroke

  • And my ring finger

  • Its easy but i cant get my pinky to do it just my middle finger

  • Man, that guitar tone is fucking killer!

  • could u post the presets in bnk? 4 guitar rig

  • It's been 23 days and I still get play this fucker as fast as you ! Why !?

  • How would you recommend practicing this ? Please answer !

  • With this lick, I will get many chicks hahahah Thanks mashandflutter!!

  • this is not only a good lesson but and entertaining video, nice use of special fx.

    Rock On.

    Cheers,

    JImmi.

  • I have the same problem Shaun7189. I bend and my finger bends the g string and rings out. I've tried pal muting but it doesn't work very well.

  • Awesome series! Can you pls do some more?

  • i have this problem its like whenever i bend, say the b-string, i always hit the g-string as well and whenever i do this lick i have like a G note just ringing in the background. any tips on how to eliminate that?

  • Hey, awesome videos man! But what i would really like to see is a little video about all the notes that are in between the licks, could you make a video of how Slash (navigate and operate) around the scales. all the notes that are just fired away randomly all the time, is there any special patterns that he does? I think you know what i mean? I would litterally run a marathon to see such a lesson from you? can you do that?

  • what effects do u use ?

  • @HcWeaner Guitar Rig 3

  • you guyz are fantatstic, rock on man \m/ !!!

  • @ruelsky69 You are awesome! Thanks!

  • fuckin' rad guitar man

  • @fuzzknG Thanks man, it's a good one for sure.

  • Pause at 9 seconds in, hahahahaha

  • @YAZZ69er Yeah, we're a bunch of idiots ;)

  • mashandflutter - can you writte me your hardware - to make sounds like yours - what pedals and amp i need?

  • @slashatd Try Guitar Rig 3

  • @mashandflutter can you give me your presets?

  • suk!

  • are you guys Armenian? lol

  • @Shiraz157 No, neither of us are, however some of my best friends are Armenian.

  • When i try this it feels like my strings are too loose and the g strings always rings open. i use power slinkys. can someone help me

  • @joshjarmusic Try some heavier strings and check your action and intonation.

  • Thanks for doing this !!!

  • @bcooper123abc You're totally welcome!

  • you have a diferent way to hold youre pick ... but youre good !

  • @DIGOOOO1 Yeah, I broke my finger when I first started playing guitar and I never changed it up. But thankfully I made it work for me. Thanks for the kind words!

  • man your tone is awesome !

  • @JONNYmcLAUGHLIN Thanks! You share the same name as another pretty sick guitarist.

  • I can do that lick... the problem is that I've been doing that lick since I first started learning pentatonics and I've always used my third finger instead of the fourth and I just can't get used to it -__-

  • @george2rockr There's no wrong way to play this lick. Many people play it the way you do, so don't worry about it too much.

  • Thanx man. It's gonna take a while though :(

  • @PredaDrake Playing guitar isn't a race, take your time and enjoy the ride ;)

  • never mind...I read your comments on it below...thanks so much and please keep posting....

  • @sethlogan20 You're welcome and THANK YOU for taking the time to read the other comments. I wish more people did that ;)

  • Please help!!! Your playing is really amazing. So, slash is infamous for using his pinky in situations where most guitarist (me included) would not...could you please comment on your thoughts about your pinky use in these licks?...Did you always play these using your pinky? Do you find it possible/ comfortable to play them without it, or do you feel that it as vital to playing as fluid and fast as you do? Any help is greatly appreciated....and please keep up the truly amazing work!!!

  • nice lesson m8!!!

  • Should I be lifting my third finger of the b string when doing the hammer on - pull-off on the e string?

  • @MistyMountainTop I'm not totally sure what you're asking here. Check the video again, if you have any other questions just write me.

  • dude this lesson is dope diggity fresh! i can almost do it, i can only do it up to speed about 4 times in a row b4 i mess up and ive been working on this lick for about 3 weeks, it helps me if i do it in standerd tuning for a while untill i can do ot ok then i switch to half step down which makes it easier. thanks man you rock

  • @carlosbarraganrules You are dope diggity fresh and very welcome ;)

  • @ILOVESHIT1000 ..what?

  • Killer tone.

  • @1MProductions Many thanks!

  • how do get that distortion that sound liek the authentic slash sound

  • yeah this guys tone is EXACTLY like slashs

  • @MrMariokiller Depends on what amp and guitar your using. If you're willing to buy, Slash uses a Marshall amp, but if you've got a cheaper amp, just tone the mid and tremble down, and add some echo/delay. And presto! Slash's tone.

  • thanks man

  • @MrMariokiller change you pick ups to seymore ducan slash sig. model or seymore duncan 59, pearly gates

  • just a quick question, after the bend and during the pull off,do you release the note( on 13 th fret,b string) or keep it pressed before the next bend?

  • @SirBigBrain If I'm understanding your question correctly, I believe I'm releasing it.

  • @SirBigBrain If I'm understanding your question correctly, I believe I'm releasing it.

  • @SirBigBrain If I understand your question correctly, I believe I'm releasing it.

  • Dude..Love the videos. Keep it up! You're a great guitarist. If you can, please explain the right hand movements for us "slower leaners" especially in video 2 where you mix lick one and two together.

  • how do i mute the lower strings? when i release the bend i can hear the g and d strings even when i try to mute them with my picking hand.

    please help thanks

  • @smashingpoop what type of strings are you using? Coz initially i had Ernie Ball's Super Slinky, which are the thin ones, High E string was Gauge 9. I had the same prob, then i bought the Power Slinky's which E string was gauge 11, thicker and tighter.. prob was solved for me.

  • oh ok thanks, i have the super slinky ones too

  • @ccts91 I use just the regular Ernie Ball Lime colored 11's.

  • hey man just a quick question..

I get how my left figures move and where its suppose to be but how do you pick the strings with your right hand..

    Btw you rock dude!!!

  • fucking hell i fucking love your tutorials i just have to get my fucking pinky warmed up before i try this one, thanks for showing how to do it, sounds awesum.

Btw, is it easier to play all of these licks with um lighter strings? I think ive got the standard medium strings on my epiphone and my friend has an ibanez and when i try on his guitar it feels alot easier due to the thinner neck and alot lighter strings, its a lot easier to bend on his strings tbh.

  • i'm getting along pretty nicely with this lick thanks for the lesson dude

but i'm having a bit of trouble with the fourth finger if you could give any tips

  • It's simply a matter of getting used it to. The fourth finger is naturally the weakest so people avoid using it. But get used to using it and you'll be a much more versatile guitarist. Just hang in there, it'll get easier.

  • slash godfather lick

  • Yep! ;)

  • Constructive suggestion: you say F# minor, but of course, with Slash plays G, on a down-tuned guitar. For people like me looking at fingering of the org solo, this was a bit confusing.

For example, this lick is right on the 4th pentatonic position, which once I got, made it a LOT easier to understand!

  • Thanks for writing in. I really shouldn't have mentioned any theory in these lessons because all of these licks can be played in any position. The main focus here is just building the technique.

  • HEY guys could u watch my slash solo licks inspired by you plz thanks and you rockl

  • Any thing I've done to "inspire you" comes more from your love of playing guitar. Please send a link and I'll check out your video!

  • i don't know why, but i can't make this lick sound good :S the hammer on pull off part does not sound nice when i do it even though my pulloffs and hammer ons are good with everything else, don't know why this is bugging so much this lick!?

  • It all takes time and practice, but you'll get it!. Tone and how your guitar is set up can affect how a lick sounds just as much as your technique. You have to look at everything when trying to figure out what the problem is if something doesn't sound the way you want it to.

  • what type of guitar r u using and if u want some good amp settings msg me and ill get u some this goes for anyone

  • It's just a Gibson Les Paul standard. I'm good on the amp setting, but thanks!!!!!

  • What are your specs? Like Amp settings and Tone settings and what not? Plz reply and ty in advance <3

  • Thanks man. I'm actually using Guitar Rig 3 which isn't even an amp at all! Check it out, it's pretty sweet.

  • Your lessons are awesome, I'm learning a lot, thanks.

  • People with cookies rule! Thanks a lot!!!!

  • what guage strings do you use? why does one down tune?

  • Thanks for writing in Doctor Dreams. I personally like to use 11 gauge Ernie Ball Strings. Tuning down accomplishes a few things: 1) It's sounds different (i.e. darker/heavier), 2.) it's a little easier to play on, and 3.) In Slash's case, he might have tuned dwn his guitar to make Axl's voice sound even higher since vocal range was all the rage in the 1980's.

  • did you take lessons? crap because I dont. I just learn from guys like you. I cant seem to build up speed. any tips on that?

  • help us with the speed

  • Please see below.

  • Actually I never took lessons because I just learned from guys like Slash ;) As far as building up speed it comes down to 2 things 1.) Practice and 2.) Patience. I was not able to do this stuff over night. Building strength in your hands is no different than building strength in any other part of your body. You just have to be diligent. But if you take the time you will be rewarded with the results.

  • same here learned all by my own way but i had patience on the guitar i didnt rush my shit

  • everything you do on the guitar must be crystal CLEAR. use a metronome. start AS SLOWLY AS POSSIBLE so that every note sounds exactly as it should , no extra sounds. once you notice that you`re having no problem following the metronome AND playing crystal clear you can spped up the tempo. it`s as simple as that. just a matter of time and perseverence.

    remember : Practice makes perfect.

    peace.

  • Very wise words, man. Thanks for taking the time to write in!

  • @sebyyyyyy Word. Great advice.

  • Awesome Video man, Thanks!!!! i always wanted to learn some licks from taht solo, but its fucking too fast for me to catch any, Thank u again

  • Many thanks jair! I hope these lessons have helped you learn some of those elusive licks! ;)

  • Yes there amazing videos, not to mention you play the Licks effortless. Thanks man!!! i did really learn ALOTT from them

  • dude I love your tone how do you get it if you could tell me pedals amps everything

  • Thank you so much! Believe it or not, it's actually not an amp at all. It's a VST Instrument called Guitar Rig 3 made by Native Instruments. It's really cool so you should check it out.

  • yh, these r the best solo lick vids on youtube, very easy to learn from. cheers man!!

  • That's high praise coming from The Lord Rock. Very much appreciated!!!!! Thanks!

  • oh..ok...seriously ur vids rule man

  • And you seriously rule! Thanks!

  • michael schenker licks not slash!

  • Honestly, they're not really anybody's licks in particular. Thousands of guitarists use these. That being said, Schenker was a huge influence on Slash.

  • hey man great vid.....jus 1 question, is it ok if i use my ring finger rather than the pinky for the hammer on and pulloff

  • If you can play the lick that way and get the desired sound then it's okay. There are no rules! However, I recommend using your pinky finger because you will become a more versatile guitarist and it will make many other licks a lot easier.

  • does anyone have any tips on this, like on the bend part, sometimes i hit the g string, any one now how to solve this?

  • It's just a matter of practicing the lick slowly making sure you don't hit the G string. You'll get it!!!!

  • mash & flutter RLZ!!!! tanks for the lessons, greetings from Argentina!

  • Argentina RLZ!!!!!!!!!!! Many thanks!!!!

  • hey man ive almost mastered all these licks thanks to you!!

oh and what amp are you using..just wondering :)

  • Awesome! I'm glad you're getting something out of the lessons.

Believe it or not, it's actually not an amp at all. It's a VST Instrument called Guitar Rig 3 made by Native Instruments. Check it out, it's pretty sweet.

  • u know thanx! slash is like my fav guitar player, and it may sound lame, but i wanna be a big guitar player one day

  • Keep practicing and dream big, dude. Nothing lame about that at all.

  • wow thx man!!!! u rule!!!

  • it isnt hard,,i was learning it 4 hours to that speed,it isnt hard,,,maaaan your are gooood,,,,number one man,,another slash:D

  • Thanks Lubos, much appreciated!

  • how long do u think it will take for me to learn this lick up to speed? how long did it take u?

  • I don't how long it will take you since I've never seen you play! But it doesn't matter, learning to play the guitar isn't a race. If you like the lick and you take the time to practice it, you'll learn it.

  • this is sooo hard...face...it ill never be good at this...

  • Nah, with a little practice you can totally do it. Just stick with it.

  • amazing, could you give me private lessons, no really.

  • I unfortunately have no time to give lessons, but I'm flattered you would even ask. Thank you very much!

  • Hello, GREATEST LESSONS! love it!

    But i have a question:

When i do the bends on the 13 fret on the B string the G string makes alot of noice, is there a way to solve it??

  • I'm guessing you have single coil pickups, if so you can't really do much about bg noise.

  • I have a Epiphone Les Paul Slash goldtop with, 'Alnico pro 2 humbuckers'

So it's not single coil pickups. What else could it be?

  • You could have a bad guitar cord or a noisy amp via radio interference. I'm not sure what else it could be without actually looking at your setup.

  • mute it with your palm or another finger.

  • hey man, thanks for the lessons. im curious to know how long youve been playin, or what your practice routine is like. like how much time you spend a day playin. where is your band from? alright thanks again.

  • You're totally welcome! I've been playing for about 13 years. I spend most of my time writing music for Mash and Flutter which is based out of LA and NYC. I have two thoughts on practice. 1.) Practice licks & ideas that you will ACTUALLY use in your everyday playing. 2.) You're only as good as your influences. I dig Slash, Gary Moore, Paul Gilbert, so I tried to learn from them, but I also wanted to find my own voice. If you always listen to Nirvana, but want to play like Yngwie, it won't happen

  • I find it extremely hard to use my little finger, but I will give it a go. I am going to watch all of these Vids you are a real good guitarist!!!!Thanks..Jordan

    Obviously 5*

  • Thanks for the kind words. Using your pinky at first is difficult, but if you get used to it you will become a much better guitarist. Keep at it!

  • wow nice man....i wanted to ask is it easier to do that on a Les Paul or Epi.... or could u use a normal electric guitar. Cuz on my guitar the Strings are kinda hard to pluck when im playing fast solos...

  • Using either a Les Paul or and Epiphone will work. I don't think it matters which one so long as they're set up right.

If your guitar is hard to play, take it to your local music store and see if they can set it up for you so it suits your playing needs better.

  • I LOVE YOU

    THANKS

  • WE LOVE YOU TOO.

    YOU'RE WELCOME

  • thanks for this videos! 6 parts direct to my favs

  • You're very welcome! Thanks for checking them out!

  • hey great playing! just wondering what are your amp settings?

  • Thank you so much! Believe it or not, it's actually not an amp at all. It's a VST Instrument called Guitar Rig 3 made by Native Instruments. Check it out, it's pretty sweet.

  • Nice lesson.

  • Many thanks!

  • nice taste

  • Thanks! ;)

  • Would it come out right if the hammer on pull off part with my fore finger and my ring finger instead of my pinky?

  • You could do that. Michael Hedges once said that a player should use anything at their disposal to create the right sound including using their pinky, toes, teeth, etc. The point is that if playing this lick your way gives you the desired sound, then it's okay. I still recommend it my way in the video because by developing your pinky you will become a more technically versatile guitarist.

  • thank you for your advice I will do so, and thank you for taking your time make this vid for us all

  • You're absolutely welcome!

  • Man I will never make this up to speed anytime soon. How long did it take you to make it up to speed?

  • Thanks for writing in! I have no idea how long it took me. But don't worry about the speed, with a little practice and patience you'll get it. Learning the guitar isn't a race, just enjoy playing;)

  • Nice tone :]. Your very helpful. What equipment do you use??

  • Thanks for the nice words! I mainly play a Les Paul Standard and I use a program called Guitar Rig 3 by Native Instruments to dial up the tone.

  • man you're awesome

it sounds so much like slash

    good work

  • Nah, you are! ;) Thanks for checking out the vids!

  • what key is the live solo in..i herd it was G

  • You heard correctly! He's definitely noodling around in the key of G.

  • lol, you fuckin guys crack me up.

  • Yeah, we're a bunch of idiots;)

  • Hey, thanks for doing these vids they great - super helpfull! Errr, are 5 and 6 coming anytime soon? :D

    Pete

  • r u use down down or down up for the first lick??

  • Great question: I'm just using down down with hammer ons and pulls off. Thanks for checking out the videos!

  • shit!!this video awesome thank you!!

  • obrigado

  • boa vinda!

  • hi my name, douglas I'm from Brazil and I am very grateful for having done this video, because I was trying to get this land for some time, you can tell me some kind of exercise to increase my speed? ae else you will be q can make a video of the soil that makes the slash before dderso boss in Tokyo, thanks

    ROCK N ROLL PORRAS

  • I've always felt a person should practice something that inspires them. If I'm going to take the time to practice something, I ultimately want to use it in my playing. Doing that makes practice a lot more rewarding. So find some licks you really want to learn and practice those to build speed. It's way better than doing dull chromatic execrcises. And always use a metronome!

  • i fully agree, but is the metronome really so important?

  • It's really a great habit to use one consistently. Your sense of rhythm will improve.

  • I think you are the best guitar player on YouTube I could tell

By your finguring style . I love that you picked slash as the first artist being that he is hot . I would love to see more slash lessons and just keeep fucking rocking you tube
