I have an Oak Park Beater paper making machine if anyone is interested. It comes with all the original paper work and it still works. Let me know if anyone is interested. I will send picks. Dealjas1@yahoo.com
@vianey718 hello. I didn't think anyone would respond. I live in Brownsburg, indiana. I don't mind sending pics and or videos. Let me know how you want to converse. My email is dealjas1@yahoo.com. I found this machine with the original paper work in The Herron School or Art. It was in a building scheduled to be demolished. I figured i would pull it out and clean it up and try to sell it. I took it home and plugged it in and everything works great. It has a 3/4 hp electric motor. jason
Very cool for an online retailer and supplier to collaborate on making a "how it's made" type video for the product they're selling. I've heard a lot of mixed responses on the success of recycled paper. I suppose it depends on the quality of the post consumer product and exactly what you're trying to make out of it.
@HachiZenki Nothing wrong with recycled news when it is sourced from a good quality supplier... it is ran on some of the most efficient presses in the world... I am biased - I make it... :-)
@poughtibridge We used to use recycled newsprint from the former Abitibibowater now Catalyst Snowflake plant in Arizona. That garbage was so inconsistent you could hold up a section of it to the light and see light and dark spots. It was so bad that initially when we got it and unwrapped it, it looked like it was oil stained. That stuff was thin as all get out and really really really hydroscopic. Web breaks galore.
@HachiZenki Wow... that's a shame... the paper we make is nothing like that. I think there were teething problems when we converted to 100% recycled back in 2002 (from TMP), but certainly not now and we are the main supplier to some very fast presses. If you get a chance try UPM News - (I'm a production engineer in the UK at UPM Shotton, btw and not in sales, but I am proud of what we make!).

This is a class of how to be a fool into a paper mill procesing factory, this man was moving here hands at the side of a big paper mill sorrounded of hot enviroment, full noise, what was he thinking? I have known of serious accidentes in this kind of factories. And he is teaching that protective articles are just for fun.
lmao @ 3:20, if that clowns arm got dragged into the machine while he was jabbering on, it wouldbe priceless. like that guy on mad TV, the home improvemnt guy that always gets butchered ;)
What a dangerous place to work at. All those rollers are exposed. Why don't they put up fencing or plexiglass along the side. All you need is someone to accidently fall onto this equipment and loose an arm or leg.
I work in a paper mill in oklahoma, we produce linerboard and medium grade paper used to make boxes, we have machines the run up to 3600 fpm, and produce 500k tons/year,its interesting to watch how other machines run and what they produce....I enjoyed this video,
@pircbaz I believe the sheets shown at the beginning were wetlapped secondary fibre. This is basically recycled paper, pulped and deinked in sheets. Any surplus not required immediately by the mill is made into sheets for use as and when required, or sold on as RCF pulp sheets to other mills.
Great Video, I remember when I started As an apprenticed papermaker a long time ago, I miss the pleasure of making paper which because of redundancy I had to give up
Good video,I worked for nearly 20 years on a 200" machine, that did it all,...pre-coating/coating,and calendering. When I started the Mill had well over 1,000 employees, then they shut down the wood yard/pulp mill,.then the other paper machine,..down to around 200 employees now. I left almost 3 years ago,..I miss the people/money,..not the heat!
Thank you for this video which I showed to my students in the Graphic Communications Class. Well done! We would like to see you do a video next about a coated paper making.
Brings back memories. The mill I worked in, Thunder bay ontario shut down 2 years ago. I was there for 5 years. I was a steam plant operator and also looked after the steam and gas dryers on the machines. We made coated paper.
I work for the world's largest marketing company for pulp and paper and FYI the Thunder Bay coated mill has been restarted by a group of investors under a new name.
Yes I saw that. They called me and offerd me my old job back, but like many of the younger guys in the mill I moved away from home for work elsewhere. But its really nice to see some of the long time employees get their jobs back. Apparently the mill will be back to full operation in a few months!
yep, going through startup over the next few weeks and then working on the finishing touches, our company also revived a mill in park falls, WI a little while back, reopened it, made it Green and now running full.
I would like to see them put in a cogen. When i was there we burned natural gas in the boilers and had a bark pile out back getting bigger and bigger. I heard a rumor that there might be a Cogen coming in the future. 35 megs of power is a lot of energy to be buying off the grid. Hopefully that place can be made a little greener. Thats going to have to be the wave of the future in industry thats for sure.
I am a 27 year vet of paper making. I work in Bucksport Maine and have been a Machine Tender for 5 years. My machine makes Lt Weight Coated paper for mags and cataloges.I like this stuff.
