Great game, very well done just like Batman for NES and Batman Returns for SNES as these were the last good Batman games before we got the Arkham Games to solve the prayers of great Batman games.

Actually, going back to your "Story" segment, yes, Joker was killed both in the movie and NES game, BUT in the Beta Prototype of the NES game, The Joker was actually punched in the face and taken to jail... so Return of The Joker's plot is actually more coupled on to the Beta's ending instead of the official.
Though this may have been a tough Batman game, it was a bit okay for Bat-fan like me and it became the first NES game I beat in 15 years! It was also the first Sunsoft game I beat as well.

Did you know that Tim Burton originally had The Joker surviving, that's Gordan pulls out the laugh bag from The Joker's body, he wasn't meant to be dead.
It doesn't really play that similar to Contra, and it's pretty lame to suggest any run and gun game is a ripoff of Contra. Metal Slug? Ripoff. Gunstar Heroes? Ripoff. Turrican? Ripoff.

That's just how it was in the 80's. If a game did very well and it was popular, people try copying that game's assets and slap a different title on it. While this doesn't seem too bad of a Batman game, I will always love the cartoon like at the very end.
wow......when I was like 9 give or take 21 years ago I thought this was one of the best games on the nes and looking back it still is... but what gets me is that you knock the game for being something like contra, there are a ton of games that copied game of games that are copies of games, the difference from Batman return of joker to contra or even megaman is like halo to doom or half life to call of duty. its a genre most games that fall into a type of genre USUALLY have the same concept.
SNES's Animated Series adaptation has to be one of the best Batman games to date. Penguin's museum level and the Riddler's Maze of the minotaur blew me away as a kid.

Kwing, you said one of the bad things about this game is that Batman isn't supposed to kill. But back then, that aspect of Batman still wasn't set into stone because his character has gone through a lot of development. Not only did the original Batman have him kill people with a gun, but also in the movie he killed people as well.
Batman only killed in the early 40s. He carried a side arm. Then used a machine gun on a plane one time. From the late 40s to today Batman doesn't kill. The only time Batman killed in the my life time was in both Tim Burton movies. Bob Kane wasn't happy that the Batman killed people in that movie. But Kane was happy to see a Batman movie made non the less. The fact Batman doesn't Kill has been an important part of who he is, for the last 50 yrs. But yes in the early 40s he did kill.
So that would be a fault of the movie and not a fault of the game. You said yourself that this is supposed to be a sequel of first NES Batman which was based off the movie.
I agree that him not killing is is an important part of his character, but that doesn't mean all versions of him have to be the same. Take for example another important part of his character which is dark and serious. Adam West wasn't dark at all, and the show was comical, would that make him a bad Batman?

It's not a Contra clone. It has some similarities, but it's much more akin to Fester's Quest, another Sunsoft game.
A true clone game for the NES is The Krion Conquest, a blatant ripoff of Mega Man. I suggest you check that out!

That's just how it was in the 80's. If a game did very well and it was popular, people try copying that game's assets and slap a different title on it. While this doesn't seem too bad of a Batman game, I will always love the cartoon like at the very end.

wow......when I was like 9 give or take 21 years ago I thought this was one of the best games on the nes and looking back it still is... but what gets me is that you knock the game for being something like contra, there are a ton of games that copied game of games that are copies of games, the difference from Batman return of joker to contra or even megaman is like halo to doom or half life to call of duty. its a genre most games that fall into a type of genre USUALLY have the same concept.

SNES's Animated Series adaptation has to be one of the best Batman games to date. Penguin's museum level and the Riddler's Maze of the minotaur blew me away as a kid.

ok, could everyone stop calling this contra? its a PLATFORM SHOOTER, Contra is not the only (or the best) platform shooter out there, and besides, Contra is 8 way and this is a 4 way (and usually just 2 way) shooter.

The Genesis Batman and Robin was terrible, not the Super Nintendo ver. It and games like Batman Forever the Arcade game raised the Bar for Batman games.

Yeah it was a final FIght rip off. So was Batman Returns for Snes. But it was still a fun game. I loved the Sega Saturn one. It was fun.

They did make it. But it was never finished or released. If your playing it. Your playing a rom version of the game that is only 40% completed the textures are terrible & gameplay is just as bad, if not worse then Revenge on the genesis.

that scene where batman charges his shot just like in mega man is a TOTAL RIP OFF from the arcade game SUPERMAN by TAITO from 1988. you should have inserted a clip from that game into this review to show the similarities.

Kwing, you said one of the bad things about this game is that Batman isn't supposed to kill. But back then, that aspect of Batman still wasn't set into stone because his character has gone through a lot of development. Not only did the original Batman have him kill people with a gun, but also in the movie he killed people as well.

Batman only killed in the early 40s. He carried a side arm. Then used a machine gun on a plane one time. From the late 40s to today Batman doesn't kill. The only time Batman killed in the my life time was in both Tim Burton movies. Bob Kane wasn't happy that the Batman killed people in that movie. But Kane was happy to see a Batman movie made non the less. The fact Batman doesn't Kill has been an important part of who he is, for the last 50 yrs. But yes in the early 40s he did kill.

So that would be a fault of the movie and not a fault of the game. You said yourself that this is supposed to be a sequel of first NES Batman which was based off the movie.
I agree that him not killing is is an important part of his character, but that doesn't mean all versions of him have to be the same. Take for example another important part of his character which is dark and serious. Adam West wasn't dark at all, and the show was comical, would that make him a bad Batman?
