  • haha his face is screwed

  • LOL

  • Even though the animation is not good i feel how the creator feels when he or she is doing this video. I like it. I want to learn animating 3D in maya coz i want to create an animation that comes in my own creativity. Thank you very much for showing this video to us. I want to know the title of the background music. Thank you for response.

  • I think his sword is too heavy that it made him accidentally threw it off.

But, hey! Nice presentation there :)

  • that was nice))what is the name of the song?i know its John Debney but don t know the name...)

  • hey lol hahah

i'm inspired by final fantasy games and anime too

to start making my own animations and games wow there someone inspired by the same thing

    thats COOL!!!!!!

  • between the past and the future.. present?:D

really nice animation:D the music is P.E.R.F.E.C.T.

  • does anyone know of a fairly effective program that can put an image format onto youtube without it looking grainy or shot with a cell phone camera?

camera.I have clip samples on my page to show

  • I just don't like how people don't realize it's mostly about the choreography sure it can have pretty backgrounds and props but it needs to have good action and stuff. It looks like he's getting on a good start with animating itself, though. Unless he's made somethng better by now?

  • Not bad for a first animation. Not at all. Most results for a first atempt are worse. I never ever touched character animation up until today. I always was into effects. But after starting with character modeling it seems I'll have to try animating myself. Oh gosh.

  • @Bytecutter I started with animation first. I haven't even touched the effects yet lol.

  • If youre a beginner with this its alright but..seriously?

  • god damn this loosk like it came from MS Paint

  • at the very beginning where it showed the river and everything with the guy sitting by the tree, that was very good but with the close-up and the other things. Urk--, i'm just going to say it wasn't half-bad.

  • wasn gesicht xD

  • what for a shitface

  • Too bad ..

    no creativity!

  • BOSTA!!! <<Google translator

    Portuguese to english :)

  • how long you create this???

  • need to sort your procedural textures out ! They're swimming ! Use a reference object..

  • Better than anything I could do!

  • nice how long did it take?

  • 5-6 month

  • You should use more DOF. It is too clean.

  • this was the beginning, we did not know about renderd or composed dof

  • isint this the music from the passion of the Christ? lol nice video!

  • lol

  • ehm its a bit amateur :S

  • yeap

  • Not bad for a first vid

  • Cool. Thanks. :)

    Lord Bui

  • he forgot to remove the sword cover.

  • horrible

use AE and Zbrush after Maya could be better

  • Hi. I am currently learning Maya and my machine bogs down when I put too much layers in a scene. I used the strongest MacPro Apple has and it still lags. Did you have this problem too when you rotated the camera? :)

  • There's your problem.. I use a custom built PC.. that's what it takes to use such powerful applications..

  • So the main character is unrealistic humanoid who has gigantic eyes and emo hair?

Oh and he sounds like some dude from an old kung-fu film.

  • Seems like a huge klisé to me.

  • they used a ramp shader for the eye.

    :-))

every texture in here was done using procedural textures.

they may not seem like much, but to the experienced user, they can yeild impressive results when working with shader nodes and photoshop :-)

I think they used a 3d displacement map for the water, nicely done. ;-)

procedural textures are a computational algorithm in which maya produces a texture. Mainly by noise, it travels in a linear path creating a seamless texture

    :-)

    good for detail.

  • great work! lets both master this program and make our movies come true!

  • misses a lot of work, but the vision is good. You will do better

  • Herrmmm ..... many problem here ....

as example in texture just simple apply shader and some texture with bad bump map ... why don't try use normal map as bump this will reduce the speed of rendering and also can generate a good texture ..)

  • Couple suggestions. Change the font type because I found it a little difficult to read. Also I think someone mentioned it, but work with your slow in and slow outs to help the animation. Good job.

  • Why does this water look like shit. Is it cause the color is off or what?

  • water is transparent and translucent

it doesnt have a colour. it reflects the sky and its suroundings.

    thats why it looks blue.

but in this case, it boils down to the use of shaders ofcourse.

water is very dificult to mimic in 3d

it moves and acts like water, but certain ellements are missing.

    such as the luminocity

    glow effect

    caustics

    :-)

  • its ok, i jus download maya awhile ago, do u need any C++ to use this at all?

  • When he pick the sword up his hand twists quite unnaturally. Good otherwise.

  • skin binding with the joints collided.

naturally the wrist does not rotate, its the fore arm that does. :-)

  • omg lord monkey in action!!!jajaja

  • hmmmm whys is the movement so poor.... sorry if this is a silly comment i dont know much about animation i really want to get into it

  • Reminds me of a Dreamcast graphic character design..Not bad..I think you can do better.;)

  • Warcraft music? but which?

  • lol that's the ugliest dude...

  • ease in and ease out would do miracles for this. Learn curve editor, and read up and arcs.

  • Hey. Really nice animation, you should check my fire engine animation out. take care and keep working !!

  • What music is this ?

  • ok animation, dont even have the program my self so I cant complain

  • selten sojemanden hässlichen gesehen

  • That dude is really ugly. Lol. Great animation though. It looks incredible. Keep up the good work!

    PS: I'm subbing.

  • Just one thing.... we all start from below, but you need to be aware of the place your'e in... I'ts a really awful animation done by people who doesn't use maya, (in the school we get training during a year and as a final exam we have to do a 4 min animation...) just skip the "Produced by..." thingys at the start, middle and every 10 secs.... the credits are for thta, please

  • music????????

  • thats warcraft music

  • music plz?

  • that is too much "bling bling" for a stupid sword in a tree trunk dude. The grass is cool the character sux big time. Character animation also. Water looks fine but you have a problem at 0:26 when the camera stops instantly.

  • Great job, shame the face looked like it belonged to a mutant

  • The shaders are...... well do this..

Go to your rendering menu set (drop down tab).

Textureing, and create texture reference object.

This will prevent those shaders from high end 3d, and other websites from moving like a reflection, instead they will stay still.

  • I have to say: the character looks like a caveman. Here are the good points: -Nice water. Raytraced? -Nice terrain. -Grass is well placed. -Well textured terrain. -Excellent choice for the music. And here are the bad points: -Adding shadows to the scene would be a nice one. -The eye of the guy looks a mirror. This isn't good. Reflect only part of the light and it'll be fine. -Hair a little square. -Better rigging please. Conclusion: More effort and you'll do a way better job.
  • that characterguy scares me...

  • yes 70 ratings you have already rated

  • yeah great work, i only see three small bugs, the sound of the right food of the char is quite not the same than the left foot, the hands animations when taking the sword are quite ugly, and in fact the face of the char is quite ugly too :D...

  • If you get the lighting right it will make it all look alot better. There are no shadows and the light doesnt seem to be coming from any angle. If you sort out the lighting it will look a whole lot better.

  • lol's hard

  • i love the music and the video goes great with it

  • Im learning maya have made my first movie took me 10-14 days :) It suck so badly i dont want youtube to see it xD

  • how do you make charecters and stuff like that. Im only like 12 and Im trying to learn maya and since I cant even make those characters and sometimes I dont even understand maya...i get the feeling I shouldn't try to use it and am never gonna get good till likle colledge. any advice PLEASE

  • same man i'm only 13 and sometimes i dont get maya either but type into youtube "Maya Modeling Tutorial" and there will be some videos teaching you how to make stuff in maya...

  • I'm aoeey, but that sucked! I mean look at the hand when he picks up the sword, BLOATED? and the sound design was horrendous.....was that lion king what was that? But I do give you credit for trying!

  • u try doing sumthing better u fucking idiot....

  • I do all the time, lol! I'm in school for these things....but like I said I give them credit, never said it was bad....just a creative criticism.

  • can u do anything better mate???

  • my earlier response comment is for docklandjackass....can he do better? before he slags off others...

nice job mate...do u have buy maya? or can u download it?

  • I totally agree with you, considering its the first, i think its okay.. but overall.. that hand was pretty damn gross..

  • nice work. how many years experience did you have when you made this video?

  • we made it in 5 month at our university

  • nice, nice i really liked how you used the sound effects with the actions of the character and how you put so much detail into ur background i have used maya and its pretty difficult but i got the hang of it!

  • that is a mazing! how long did it take for you to do that?

  • we had 5 month. and i had never seen maya before but my buddy did. he did the character animation.

and of course we got help from our profs

  • i wanna do stuff lie this but i cant cuz its way to expensive-and i dont know if ill be as good as i want to-anywhere for a free trial download??

  • get maya ple off the autodesk site:)

  • thnx

  • Really well done! Belive me, I know how dificult 3d animation is and you did great.

are you going to continue this project?

btw I've done some 3d fan videos if you are interested...

  • no we ware not continuing. we are working on a better 3d video atm. we will render it with menttal ray

  • very nice

  • The rest was quite nice. But the reflection on that guy's eyes was not good. Try improving this. Anyway. What is the musics name?

  • it is from john debney from the film passion of the crist

  • truly amazing, really liked it! u got quite some skills:) thought it was something that standed abit out and seemed abit off about the cheek bones ''the arena where his mouth is'' and the eyes, the eyes where to big in my opinion, but exept that i loved everything, of course i liked the eyes and everyhting too but just what i would of done different, prefer a more ''anime'' style to it so i would of worked more on the face if it was me :) anyway, really nice made!

  • Ill say pretty good for yalls first try and dont listen to these other shitheads that are trying to sound like the would actually know what the hell theyre doing with maya like i said before god first attempt cant wait to see what you have learned now.

  • WOOW NICE MODELING AND TEXTURES!

and its your first anim, keep it up :)

but the animation and sound bugs me a little, some of the textures loops wherent connected enough at some scenes. The animation was a little slow, but i still gie u a 5 caus its ur first anim!

  • are you kiding me?ITs damn amazing and its first animation!5 stars amazing job

  • that is the ugliest thing I have ever seen o.O...sorry about the noob criticism...but this is just ebarressing to look at. And the suspense just makes it funnier.

  • hahahahaha

  • Breatimus you probably never used maya this is one of the best i seen so far.

  • I appreciate it is your first animation, but:

The water looks like it has a animated texture, which flicks back to the start and makes it look a little unrealistic. Try using the noise modifier.

The font, although it fits the theme, is a little hard to read.

The syncing is also a bit off.

With time this could be a really great animation. Realism will come in making accurate textures- the face seems flat and extra shading or modifiers could really set it off.

    Best of luck

  • i'll have to agree with CartoonMusician. His actions are to slow when he is dealing with the sword.....but overall this is great compared to anything i'd be able to do.

  • LOL funny face haha..! look like a moron..!

  • haha.. the music is great! From what movie is it? The animation/modelling is so bad that I peed my pants.

  • Is maya free?

  • no it is not. Our University has it´s own room with Maya Pc´s

  • The movement of the guy when using his sword isn't great, and he does look slightly like a caveman, but this is MILES beyond anything I'd be able to do with Maya. Keep it up, and soon, you guys might actually be able to make next-gen games and the like. The scenery is actually already really good in my opinion.

  • Jesus, you had a whole crew and you produced THIS? Don't quit your day jobs....

  • can´t say something....what crew?

  • This is really good! Keep going!

  • Look: the dude looks like a cavern man lol, escenary is ok, story is too common, animation sux really sux (te eye especially and the sword)i liked the tree(water could be more realistic with less movement) but its a awesome job, because not everbody can do that, the reason why movements in video games are so realistic is that the use "movement capture" with special equips and hardware. So nice job.

  • Wat a crap.........dudes u need to improve a lot...u r not even nearer to a casual game quality and talking about nextgen console....wat a lump of shit this is,......awk...

  • LOL

  • If you had any idea what goes into making those next gen console games look next gen you wouldn't have posted that.

Too many people think that all you need is to know how the software works, when you actually sit down and take it upon yourself to learn this stuff you'll soon come to the almost crushing relisation of "Oh crap, i need to learn how to draw, paint and sculpt." which is why you'll find most people who start out technically sound but lacking in artistic ability.

  • Well i'd personally like to see what your making these days, i mean this was a year ago.

For all the people giving poor critiques, the hardest thing to do is actually get off your ass and make something which means this guys already way ahead of most of you.

Advice is only relevant if your in a position to give it.

  • you are right. we did this private and spent half a year of our freetime in this.

At the moment we´re working on a new short film. ANimation and lighting will be better. We are also going to render it in Mental ray

  • Where can a consumer get a hold of Maya. Tell me more about the program and how do you make games with it. Is it a program to be used similarly to the Adobe Photoshop, except you're dealing with 3D.

  • Pretty sure it costsa f ewh undred bucks i 4got but i havei t.

  • The first thing you should learn is to avoid sudden camera stops like at 0:25 s. A common mistake for beginners, and to be avoided at all costs. Look up 'key frame interpolation' or 'ease in / out curves' or whatever equivalent Maya has

  • id give environment a 4 of five, the character gets a 2 cuz he so primitive looking and the walk cycle looks pretty lame, and the eyes are crazy huge. the aaanimation is also quite lame, so a 2.

  • John Debney gets a 4 OMFG!

  • Yeah im also curious of where this soundtrack is from.

  • man where do you find that kind of soundtracks xD?

  • arms look like their made out of plato

  • Whats the name of the music used...

  • its from john debney. its from the passion of the crist score

  • those are some big eyes

  • Good try... whats the name of the song?

  • use a more legible font next time

  • So did they take the short? What school you going to??

    Nice job anyway

  • whats the name of the music?

  • I don't know but it sucks lol

  • i have to make a short film to get into the collage i want and i need this kind of music and i like this peace so yeah lolz i dont care if it sucks

  • Nice try. Insanely poor understanding of biomechanics on your part though.

  • good stuff, but your gonna need more reference material for walking and sword play and i dont whats going on with the texture on that sword.... Looks a bit iffy :S Although you have set the foundations.

  • Nice but the animation was abit slopy

  • Do better next time, ok...

  • cool stuff, maybe the animation could be a little quicker or exaggerated. how did ya do the hair and water in maya??

  • Wow... this totally kicked my video's butt, lol. The only thing i would suggest is to try to get a professional swordsman (or at least someone who's been trained a bit) and watch how they move: trust me, that really helps with visualizing the animation in fight scenes and such ^_^

Fantastic work thus far, good luck in your movie!!

  • Considering you had never used Maya before it is amazing! Maya is an awful package in my opinion. Like Linux; Lots of bits written in different styles. I'm guessing the AutoDesk buy up will smooth these issues out.

  • I think Kaede069 has offered good advice. For a first effort WELL DONE. But foot sliding does stand out. Also eyeballs should fill the eye opening. Try making the eyeballs bigger (They can intersect each other inside the head). I'm still learning too so please take this comment as intended. Constructive advice. Why not check out my channel? You are welcome to find room for improvement there (There's a lot to find too)Good first effort WELL DONE. Is this character rigged via wraps?

  • well, we had just 5 months to make this Video. At the beginning we planed more: second character, the hair not with polygons, but with maya Hair, the clothes with maya cloth, UV layout for the chracter and better texturing, the water with particles, the animation with motion builder and advanced Rig, ect.. But we realised that was quite IMPOSSIBLE to make it in 5 months. the scenes were too much , the performanece of our PCS were not good enough to read the maya files.

  • Also, I hade 2 weeks left to animate the character via key framing in maya, I could not animate the character in real time. to change the timeline from frame 0 to 5 for example, it took 10-15 seconds, and that was annoying. I schould make a lowpoly char for the rig and animation, but i didnt know that before. thats why the animation was not good! its just a full body IK from maya btw.

  • We will make a new Video soon. We are now more experienced and will try to make it better this time! Better than Final fantasy movies! LOOL just kidding!

thanks for the comments :D !

  • I have also found that getting a high res file/characters to animate in real time is half the battle with maya. Just incase you are not aware: Try using bounding box display for paint effects. If you rig a character via wraps you can then animate the wraps. Real time!

  • Also using particals for water is a high processing power/time way to do it. Try writing the particals to a disk cache. Or better still use a file shader/material for water. That's what I did for my ocean. (See my video)It renders a LOT faster too. File is the way to go. Hope this helps.

  • Tutorial Please!!!

  • Good work, you guys took advantage of Mayas possibilities, and nice landscape!

  • love it!!! it was hard to make rit???

  • yup, we spent over 30 hours a week (each of us). i started from zero. my buddy had worked with maya before.

  • Really good! That guy is really ugly.

  • Very cool! the animation could be a bit more fluid, although I'm not one to talk, as I've just begun character animation :P. I like the hair for sure, the sword is pretty neat, too! Keep up the good work :). Is Maya similar to 3D Max? I've never touched any other 3d platform...

  • very nice

  • the idea is good, but u gotta work on your animation skills, get an animation book and learn the principles, it will help ya a lot!! take care~

  • the passion of the Christ theme song

  • Are you sure you are a begginner?

  • i am. i startet maya with the beginning of the project.

  • what do you mean?! :)
