On our way up to the Boat Deck Wally said...Cheerful, Let's do Cheerful. We had no idea what kind of trouble we were in but Wally said Cheerful. We went with him, and we went with that. Funny thing...as the deck started to slant Wally said nothing, so we looked at him and continued. There was no time to be scared or to be panicked...we just looked at Wally and everything was just as it should be.
@joechan13 Wallace Hartley. He and the other members of the Titanic's orchestra were brave souls indeed. Not one of them tried for a lifeboat and not one was saved. By helping to keep the passengers calm as long as possible they were heroes in my estimation.
@galoon Some other unsung heroes were the engineers who stayed below deck to keep the lights running. No way could they have escaped. The ship would have already gone down before those compartments flooded completely.....that took guts.
@simonmordeci I agree! Titanic's 35 engineers were responsible for the lives that were saved in the disaster, by keeping the power going to run the lights, the pumps, and most importantly, the Marconi for as long as possible. I was pleased to read that the monument to Titanic's engineers in Southampton is undergoing a major restoration right now; those brave men certainly deserve it. The atmosphere they worked in that night must have been terrifying.
Also, could you help me please? There is a piece of music from the Titanic's orchestra I would love if you could upload. But I do not know its name. There is a website if you go there, it automatically plays perhaps you will recognize it. Go to ww(dot)wix(dot)com/Michael_Monroe/Titanic and then click on "Songbooks" and then go to the first one, the WSL book that has the same cover you use. On that page it will show a sinking Titanic, and the music playing is the piece I am talking about Plz add
For Me and My Gal. 1942. Judy Garland and George Murphy. Classic. A great Vaudeville hit.
