I usually just skip to the future age, pick americans(most modren sp unit), choose democracy(huge bonuses), and own everybody with nuclear war and inprovement destruction with f 18s. My people dpnt even get mad, this or diplomatic victory. I dont like spaceship victory cause they nerfed the extended aliens mode where you colonize alpha cauntari

This game is fun as hell. I remember taking over the whole entire world with Africa I think and defeating the Arabs as my last battle-front nuking their whole entire existence in 1999, lol. Also remember taking over Japan and the last battle with China in the mountains.

In regards to your comment at the start of this video about "picking it up somewhere", I would recommend getting it via Steam. You'd be getting a legit copy, and it's dirt cheap: Civ III Complete on Steam is $5.

i still play civ 2 from time to time, i have one game where i have a near perfect score on it, 97% of the possible points. i can't really bring myself to play it that much anymore though, because I have like 100 cities and it takes forever to get through every turn.

ive been playing this a lot recently, but i have one major issue with it.

please tell me as to why a spearman can defeat an elite rifleman? what are the other factors that come into play in battle other than just your attacking and defensive stats?

There aren't any! That's the biggest problem with the game. I wouldn't know how to fix it either...

i think ive found something! have you noticed when versing AI, when they go to attack, they usually move their units in unison with each other. What i mean by that is, one unit behind another unit, behind another unit, etc. I tried that with about 7 horseman behind each other when ive gone to attack a unit or a town, and the units have been MUCH more effective. So rather than try to attack with a lone unit, give him some backup (those little white lines that indicate theres units behind)

Having defensive walls increases the defence capabilities of any soldier. Also, high hills and rivers give some more defence for troops, this + fortification stacks up and so the chances of a spearman winning are increased. (At least this is the explanation i have come up with. Don't exactly know that well, but ground does give bonuses to defence)

@KCpunK666 id need a more detailed explanation of the battle system. i recently learned that the terrain you stand on makes a difference. But seriously, my elite synthetic tank (or watever) was taken down by a primitive spearman. thats just absolutly rediculas. It shouldnt matter who strikes first, the tank should always win.

@Rowanffe Battles are based on the odds ex tank attack 16 vs spearman defense 2 therefore your odds to winning are 16:2 while spearman 1:12 eventhough these are unfavorable odds perhapse your tank was the unlucky 12th

You have to wait until you get better boats (usually Galleon) or the Great Lighthouse, then you can travel across sea and ocean squares to other islands. Sometimes you can take chances with crappier boats and you'll make it, though.

You may have prolly sussed this out by now, but I normally have my first worker on permanent road construction to connect all my cities.

And also, you should let your units rest if they take damage! :D

I've heard that the XBox can get a purple screen of death O_o

Have you ever played XCOM: Enemy Unknown/UFO Defense? That and Civ 3 are close for the best pc games in my book. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates brilliant game play.

Build a city on the coast, then build a Galley/Caravel/Galleon/Transpo­rt or whichever you have available to you at the time, then walk your Settlers/workers into the boat/s then send the boats out in search.

Build the Great Lighthouse to add +1 movement to all sea going vessels and each vessel can end turn further out than before. If you have the lighthouse and you send like 25-30 galleys out all filled with Settlers and just have them keep going out there is a good chance some will make it.
