Tai chi guy. the tai guy doesn't want to fight. the MMa guy still wants to fight so he grabs or throws a punch to the Tai chi guy. ADVANTAGE goes to tai chi fighter. the opponent is the only one who agrees in the fight. since he puts the tai chi fighter in
a direct defensive situation unlike the first situation. where you can choose defense or offense yet still be in a direct offensive due to agreeing to the fight. entry must be taken to account :O
which means both people decide they are gonna fight each other.
Tai chi is about deffense not fighting.
in MMA (more the sport) you are encouraged to take the guy out...
Tai chi you only take the guy out if he attacks you. MMa.. you might have to chase the opponent. hoever in tai chi if your not being attacked... then the fight is over. got it d;?
LMAOO! ah. ilove when people say things like that.
to bad martial arts has nothign to do with weight.
it can be an indicator though... depending on what type of style... but since tai chi has nothing do with such a thing as loosing weight... i doubt you should be jugdging the user by that. in fact weight adds a extra bonus since yuo can add your own weight to the shift of yuor opponent.
Yes i agree completely. in fact thats the problem i have with so many schools of martial arts.
MMA has brought a great new way of trainning.
unlike sparring... where it teaches accuracy and speed in a semi chaotic environment. MMa allows for a more chaotic experience.. thus alowing the user of the style to learn how to use his techniques under chaos more completely.
i think other styles should adapt some of mma's training methods. to gain more experience to use techniques in chaotic sittuations
Again, you miss the point, and also your grasp of "reality". I never said master Chen Yu was "fit" by modern westerners' definition. Quite the contrary. And an opponent wouldn't see the likes of him exhausted either, since Tai Chi Chuan doesn't teach you to prance around until you get tired. Plus, you failed to confirm your claims about Samo Hung. Which, I repeat, even if true, would be useless, since I was not talking about his combat skills.
Sammo, Jet, jackie, and Donnie.. all say the same things during interviews.
they say that in real life they would be wiped out by real fighters...
however think they are just being humble.
they don;'t really care about the fighting more about the art.
i know Donnie yen practices really hard. but know real martial artist would be saying they are good . real martial artist are really humble. they will never admit to their greaetness.
(1) to better explain. the idea of all martial arts have entry points. lets put MMA and tai chi in a fight situation. (we will only assume who has the advantage not the win since the win only depends on more complicated matters then entry and style.)
lets begin. first situation. lets say a tai chi guy and a MMa guy both decide they wana fight each other right now on the street. ADVANTAGE goes to MMa fighter.
tai chi will not have endurance or offensiveness for a head on fight.
asides that... the MMa fighter trains directly for head on fights.
they train with a net or direct offensive.
(which means both parties although can choose to be offensive or defensive in the fight... they still chose for head on fights which means that the fight is a net or direct offenisve)
About your comments on physical conditioning - you obviously don't know much about Tai Chi. It has more to do with correct breathing and the best use of energy. It isn't about the aerobic conditioning practiced in western gyms. Mr. Chen Yu wouldn't "gas after 20/30 seconds in that condition", simply because he wouldn't fight as an "amazing looking MMA fighter" - don't judge a book by the cover, by the way - , but rather, much more efficiently.
nice really nice.. in the recent posting of him doing 74 laoja, you can see the similarities and differnces too in how the same movement is there in laoja and how its shown in xinja is just a more apparant appicale movement in the same form...with the same frame charateristics...
His Chen style is real and not some of the more floaty kind. I would not want to mess with him. Regarding the weight issue. Everybody has weakness and strenghts. Chen Yu weight does not take away from his mastery of Chen Taijiquan.
Good fa jing, very creative, better than a lot of fa-jing i've seen on youtube, i wouldn't call him Mr stay puft to his face, he'd snap my skinny frame and eat me like a twiglet. mmmm...twiglets.
What is all this obsession with fatness? People can be naturally big you know. You might like to look at the most famous historical Taiji, Baqua, and Xingyi figures. Quite a majority of them were damn big guys, and actually did a lot of weight training as well (though this is often played down in public).
It is merely a western idea that you can be a slight figure, and practice Taiji to become good at combat without doing any real physical conditioning. Sorry, off on a rant now...
certainly his skills are great!, there is no good reason for being clinically obese, granted he is training and not an ordinary fat slob, america and england have terrible obesity epidemics, years ago type 2 diabetes was unheard of in children, now it is epidemic, why not practice what martial arts preaches?, look closely, chen yu was breathing quite laboriously at the end of his demonstration!, obesity is a BIG deal!
Nicely done. Note that the New Frame lacks the leg sweeps of the Old Frame and has more elbow and forearm strikes. A leg sweep, because it does require some leaning forward in order to performs the seep, leaves the crown of the head and base of the skull open for attack. The New Frame version corrects this leg sweep vulnerability, while allowing the use of the shins to attack the thighs of the opponent. Much more combat oriented. Very fine example of using a large frame methodology.
If I was in the family and spent MY WHOLE LIFE, like 5 to 8 hours per day, I better not be so fat. I mean, so what if he can hit me in close quarters. I could definitely run faster and get away. You could see bulky people I agree, but he's got some tub to him. Never see a Bagua guy that fat.
wang shujin WAS fat, but ma chuanxu wasn't really, obesity is unhealthy!, no one should deny it!, and no true exponent of martial arts has any good excuse for lacking the self-control which leads to being medically obese!
Don't want to be fat you need ton restrict your calories. This is an example of loving food and tai chi. He is very good and very powerful but he needs to go on a diet.
why is he so fat, even with chen style? i mean if he was yang or wu i could see that but chen is exhaust much more energy. he is doing too quickly.. no? or it is just for the camera
Beginners have to do it slow to develop strength and coordination. Masters have discression with how fast they want to perform and how much of the martial side they want to show.
This is Chen,Yu. The son of the famous Chen,ZhaoKuei; who taught the present "Great Four" of the Chen style before he died. He is performing Xin Jia Er Lu. I met him in Jiao Zuo in 2002 and a good friend of mine studied with him in Beijing for 1 year. I was told many stories of this man's skills in Chin Na & free fighting. Any film of him is hard to come by.
Amazing power but also so smooth and agile for a man of his size.

lmaoo. MMA.
MMA is totlaly different then tai chi.
look all styles have different entry points.
MMA... teaches entry when both are attackers.
which means both people decide they are gonna fight each other.
