She could have chosen ANY man: she was beautiful, she was talented. But she understood that marriage exists not only thanks to love. A lot of confusion. Here are the facts:

Sophia met Carlo when she was 15 and he was 37. He was her mentor but they weren't lovers then. In the following years they wanted to marry but couldn't because he couldn't get a divorce from his wife.

A few years go by, Sophia falls in love with Cary (who is 31 years older than her) and asks her to marry him.

Then, Carlo gets a divorce from his wife and declares his love for Sophia.

Carlo and Sophia were married until his death in 2007
