  • hey april. i have the same problem you have and i would like to cheer you up a bit...

as a person with trich i had some thoughts about suicide, but then i tried to think about the world without me and i understood that the only thing that it could do is make the people who i love and care sad. why would i like to leave them without me...

they give me the power to cope with trich.

hold to your friends and family and never let go!

  • I have had trich since first grade when it started pulling my eye lashes, now im 20 years old i started pulling my hair when i was in ninth grade, ive tryed lots of medications, i wear a hat or bandanna most of my life or my hoddie, i always get hoodie jackets an im always paranoid if someone is looking at the back of my head, im still pulling my eye lashes but its mostly my hair, i have been able to get at least half a head of hair back but i recently started pulling it back out.. =(

  • I had Trich since i was 12. Now im 16. I stay picking the hairs off my eyelashes. Now they are bald. I sometimes pick the hairs off the back of my neck, legs, and arms. But i never picked my hair thats on my head. I never knew it was a disorder until i looked it up. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

  • I suck my thumb and its also soothing I've been doing it since I am 4 and I am 24 now so yeah. I feel ya.

  • girl youre gorgeous... i hope youve overcome it!

  • I just want to say that I admire your strength and courage in posting these videos. I have had trich for 40 years and for most of that time it was my dark secret. never talked about it to anyone. Felt so much shame, thought no one else in the world did this but me. didnt even talk about it at home with family, kids, no one. I just recently started being open about it. Still not brave enough to put myself out there. All of you who do these videos and are so open and honest are helping all of us

  • Hey everyone. I've created a channel focusing on trich. I think videos like this can help us communicate and not feel isolated and.. alone. stop by :]

  • We need to remember, it's not a physical illness. And its not anything like cancer. Its not harming our bodies at all! We are lucky! Yes it affects your appearance but its a psychological thing. It can betreated with counseling and simple techniques. The hair grows back. Yes, It brings people very low self esteem. I know it can really feel awful.I'm not saying trich can't be real bad But remember how lucky we are! Maybe it's time to visit a counceller or get help from a Friend :)

  • i'm a male with trich, made 2 videos, feel free to watch...

  • I does suck, I shave my hair off so i can't pick it. Sad part is that i just move to other things like my cuticles, nipples, pubic hairs, etc. Yeah it sucks.

  • If you have trichotillomania, try buying something to may help stop fiddling your hair, by carrying around a Mini Moody Face, FlexiBlox Fiddlers a lock of hair etc..

    google trichotillomani toys... :)

    peace x

  • Big hugs to you...you're so brave to post this video...you'll overcome it even though it feels like you never will be able to...don't say you're stuck with it because that's like letting the trich defeat you.

  • Hi <3. I pull out my hair too, and understand everything. But you cannn learn ways to control it :) Its so so so so hard, but you can do it! One time I controlled my pulling for over 2 weeks, where I would usually pull constantly throughout the day till the point of bald spots. It takes a lot of effort, but I am the proof it can be done. You CAN fight this! And you are not alone! <3 Counting the hairs you pull out helps alot to controlling this disorder. XOXOXO<3 I'm Emma , talk to me ?

  • hey hun, im 27 and have overcome trich 3yrs ago. i had trich since i was about 9yrs old. i was bullied everyday and felt so self-conscious all the time! i was forever trying to hide to it and i only told a few people that i had it as most of them dont understand. i know exactly how you feel and how it can ruin your life. dont feel like you are alone as you are not, and you can and WILL overcome it. im so glad that you have posted this video as i suffered alone. you go girl xxxxxxxx

  • :)

When I was 9 or 10, I had trich, and it went on for a few months, but then it stopped. About 10 years go by, and I'm hardly pulling anything, and then, earlier this month, it started up again, I mean REALLY started up! I've got a bald spot on my head now that I have to keep covered up, and the pulling still hasn't stopped. I keep my hair pulled back most of the time, but even then it's hard. Thank you for posting this video :)

Hope it better for you, God Bless :)

  • Had it since second grade.

It's almost the end of my eighth grade year.

  • You are exactly right! I'm 14 to and I have Trich also. I'm trying to stop, but its been hard.

  • Great video! I hope all seeing it and reading this, who struggles with low self-worth, will realize deep in their heart & spirit that they are not alone & that there are many, like myself, who have been there, done that, & now live a richer, deeper, and happier life than they ever thought possible. "Trich" is something we DO (everyone does something!), it is not WHO we are! Check out TrichWorldcom. There are people of all ages who understand your journey, offering support, strength & hope.

  • hello there, i have a thesis paper coming up and its is regarding TTM, i was just wondering if you are willing to contribute by answering one out of 6 questions i have regarding TTM.. your contribution will be greatly appreciated ad helpful to let others better understand our condition. thank you.. please also pass to other TTM sufferers if you know some... thanks

  • Doe14 its pernounced trick-o-till-amania! I hav it!

  • Ok! I hav/had trick! So dose 1 of my friends! I hot over it! If u try u can! It started wen i was 8 or 9 i went practically bald on the top of my head! But now im 12 ill b 13 in a month and i hav a full head of hair! U can do it to!

  • you should pull the fork out of your mouth

  • @pkm54 she is a lil girl you fucking idiot!!! yout life must b really pathetic!! go fucking kill yourself!!!

  • I have this too i'm 19 now,my hair is thin but i remember when i was 10 or 11 years old siting in class pulling out my hair one by one but i'd do it so nobody noticed, when i looked on the floor there was hair all over the bottom of my desk/chair..

About a year after that i did it so much my head would bleed and i got bald spots all over then had to cut my hair so it would look more normal.

Right now i have a full head of hair but not as much on the top my hair is thick tho so you cant notice

  • I have this disorder. I am 10 years old and I was diagnosed this year (2010) I heard you shaved your head, I feel really pleased that you are risking anything to overcome this. Well done.

  • This sounds strange.

  • More than 46 million people have it. I have it, iv had it four years, and people are so hurtful. They spread rumors and call names, and its so hard to be brave. I need to stop typing or ill cry.

  • isnt it trich not trick? and :/ xxxxxxxxxx

  • @molliexxrandom No..it's pronounced tick-a-til-a-mania.

  • I KNOW RIGHT UT FEEKS SO GOOD

  • i think i have this. i watched a documentary on it a while ago and i was watching like 'thats what i do, im the same as them'. if i remember rightly, the first time i pulled my hair out was about a year and a half ago.. i just do it without realising now. its just the thicker strands and ones that feel different to the rest, i pull them out. i only do it with the hair on my head. i have no patches even though i do it everyday but i really want to stop cos i dont want to end up with any patches.

  • You are very brave for making this video. You are not stuck with it for life. How long can you go without pulling your hair?

  • trichsters? ahh that sounds so weird. good job making this though, its hard realizing n admitting this

  • I have Trichotillomania too. I'm 13 and I've had it for 2 years now. I pull my eyelashes an now my eyebrows.

  • hi, i think its really good from you to put this video on youtube! im now 15 and i have trich for like 1 year, i first pulled out my lashes then my eyebrows, i now stay off of my eye brows but i still pull my lashes out, im also afraid of people noticing it, i only roldmy parents and friends and i wear make-up so people dont notice. im glad you made this video! do you have msn i want to add you ! bye. good luck

  • I might have it. I pull out my eyelashes a lot.

  • cant you try pulling your leg hair off instead?

  • you did a wonderful thing putting this on youtube. and it makes so many of us feel that we are not alone. thank you so much. your brave i know i could never tell anyone. and im scared it will never go away:( good on you darl:)

  • ive had it for about 8 yrs now. i wear hats erywhre i go. i cant even find a job becuz im too embarassd to go to an interview with huge bald patches on my head. i cant control it and it has lead to social issues as well

  • Hey! I hope you're doing better! please don't give up. please please please. Everyone reading this please don't give up. I had it so bad with my eyelashes. Every day I'd wake up and pick with tweezers until my lids were completely bald. I know how you feel, like you don't want to have anyone find out because it's so embarassing and the guilt is just unbearable to live with. I never got therapy for this, but I wish I did. Just occupy yourself ALL the time. God bless

  • i have trich and i've had it since the ages of 10, im now 15, no matter how hard i try to fight it i can't stop, and i don't want to seek medical help because i like to think that im so strong willed that i will stop. i have noticed that i get the urge to pull more often when im under stress, there was a period of about 2 months, when i was generally quite happy with life and i stopped pulling....but then it went downhill again.

  • For anyone looking for tips to minimise this. I bought some triple strength Doo Grow which is a hair serum to speed up hair growth and it has a gooey gel consistency. I pull my eyebrows and I find that when I put this on thickly I don't want to do it because it makes my fingers all gooey and messy. I also find putting a plaster or tape over the patch which has a flap in the middle can help as you can pull and fiddle with the flap instead. Obviously these only work while being indoors. Good luck

  • i have had trich for a while now for 6 years ik what you go thruogh

  • This Makes Things So Easier....I Just Needed To Know Theres Someone Who Feels The Same Way....Thankyou

  • I've been pulling since i was in third grade. im entering 12th grade now and im only five days pull free.. from my scalp anyways... you are definitely right. it is not something we chose to do. it is not something we like to do. i feel horrible everytime i look at that big embarassing bald spot on top of my head... ='( i discovered it was actually a disorder five days ago, when my mom saw my head again and we talked and talked and i cried.. i hate trich. you are not alone.

  • @rockergabriela453 ik exacly what you go throgh i do the same thing but its growing but i still do it and we just have to beive in are salf we can stop this but only if we try and keep trying if you fail and i lost friends from it but im learning to caontrol it:) i hate it too i wish i could magicly wish it away?!?! ive had it for 6 years nno......and i probably will never have a boyfried

  • I have Trich too T^T it sucks so much and I hate it. I can't tell you how many times ive been made fun of because of it. Ive been pulling for four years now D:

  • Is that a wig you have on?

  • I have trichotillomania and I pull out my hair and my eyelashes. But I got to therapy and I don't wear a wig. Do you?

  • OMG i feel srry for u ): , i think i hav this to , eveyday at school i would pull at my hair , like its my favorite hobby or something

  • :( before i started college, i hadn't pulled for 2 years... 2 YEARS! and this past year it keeps comming and going, i've had no eyelashes, then grow back then none again... i did it again tonight :( all the lashes on my right bottom lid are gone and almost all on top and they were almost all backDX i hate myself

  • @diablos42069 Please don't feel bad. during my 8th grade year, let's just say I had absolutely NO hair on my face. It all grows back and I became a better person. It mainly comes from stress but IT'S JUST HAIR dead matter. If you don't have hope, then it's just that much harder for you to get through it. And trust, you are not alone.

  • Thank you april it helps to know we are not alone

  • @SirSexyAlot @SirSexyAlot i like how you took the time to write this hella long comment. you must truely care <3 and shes absolutley beautiful soo you must be crazy, too.

  • @kaileykinzkiss Well it was only about two minutes of my time.

Yeah she is totally attractive! Totally not ugly!

Then again... she has the same name as my mother before she changed it. So I kinda feel like I can't insult her any more than I have.

  • I have Trich to. T.T

  • I have Trich too. I know what your feeling. And glad you answered ?'s for others who might wanna know about it. I use to chew my hair when I was little, but when I was 23yrs old and 6months preggo with baby 4, I started breaking the ends off my hair. Then it went to pulling. I am now 26, and have huge bald spots. I hate it

  • i have trichotillomania,

    i completely understanf babygirl.

  • I agree with DearSarah25, keep praying. I had trichotillomania for 7 years and finally decided to go to a trich therapist. At first it was hard and I had to really think about stopping and put all my effort into it. After a year i finally stopped, and I have been pull free for 5 months now. I faith that i can keep this up, and I believe that you can quit too. I was in your position and was not able to quit on my own, seek help from someone. Good luck!

  • I would have to say that I have a mild case of trich. I remember when it first started, which was 3 years ago, I couldn't stop touching the hair on the very center of my head. And the moment I felt a little strand of hair that I kept tugging, I ended up pulling it out. So that became a habit for 5 months, but I stopped when I noticed a huge bald spot (almost the size of a golf ball... O.o) and knew it wasn't right. Never went to therapy for it but good thing some of my hair grew back. slowly.

  • Im 20 soon, and i remember when i was about 12 i used to pull my hair out, strand by strand. I didnt think anything of it til i realised i couldnt stop, and when i was reading, watching tv, or whatever..id just do it without realising! It was so hard to stop. Then i started going bald on top. So upsetting for a 12 year old girl!! Anyway, i conquered it :) I may do it now and again, cause i remember how it feels, but i dont pull constantly non-stop for hours and hours on end anymore. Good luck :)

  • its ok girl. im so hurt by what some people can say. your not alone and yourright on target regarding it/ God bless.

  • This video is amazing. I was so moved. You said all the words I was affraid to tell to myself for years. Oh why is that so hard / impossible to stop?

  • Comment removed

  • I know how you feel. People look at me like I'm a freak 'cause I've had it for 5 years. It's really frustrating..

  • I know what you mean with the alcoholic example, I can relate. At times it can even be harder to stop than a real addiction, smoking for example, because you don't have to buy anything. Unless you die or get dismembered, you will always have your fingers and your head with you. And since we all tend to put our hands in our face regularly, it just makes it worst...

  • what i do not to pull is to put my hair up in a gelled ponytail. i have gone to therapists and it doesn't help. i've had it for 4 years. wearing gloves and bandaids helps. i've done wigs and extensions. extensions make it worse. just pray to god. and plus, you will stop for periods of times and relapse. i hope you get better!(:

  • iHope they come up with a cure soon :-)

  • I have to pull out my eyelashes. it really sucks i know what you mean.

  • Thank you for posting this.. you are so brave for doing this. It gives me hope that maybe one day I can be as brave as you.

  • i havent pulled for 2 weeks and i am proud of myself i hope all for you who have are asking why is God doing this to you? are there people out there like me? All God is doing is replanting your life God has a plan. dont let this get you down. god bless all who have this. your in my prayers. good luck. and also what i do to keep my mind off of pulling it out. i play with a really long soft ribbon or play with clay or draw something to keep my hands busy. i cut my hair off to let it grow out evan.

  • Thanks April, for sharing your story and what trich really is. I am studying for a role, and this really helped me with character work. God bless!!!!

    ~Me

  • I'm sorry you have this... I do too. I've had it since I was about 12 or 13,and now I'm 22. It's so rough and it's gotten way worse over time... I've never gotten treatment for it (well I know it's not curable, but you know... just talking about it even with an expert) and I'm thinking about doing so. It was liveable until recently, but now I'm getting more concerned because the symptoms have really flared up this year. Anyway, thanks for posting this... this is a tough disease to live with. :/

  • well said honey, im crying at your courage to do that (L) xx

  • Can't describe it any better than you just did.

  • Trich is in a behavioral class known as "impulse control disorders." It is a cousin of obsessive-compulsive disorder. "Obsessive" meaning thinking and "compulsive" meaning doing.

If you still don't understand and want to understand in a simple way, just think of having an itch and feeling like you have to scratch it. In nearly every healthy person's mind, "itch" means "must scratch." Well people with Trich live with this itch feeling ALL THE TIME.

  • I have that toooooo. I wear a wigg.

I've had it since kindergarden. I started with my eyelashes and when i was 7, i moved onto my hair.

i am a freshman now and i know what you're going through so any time you want to talk you can myspace me, or message me here on youtube.. :)

  • Get psychological help. Be optimistic. Its only 5 years that u have TTM, how can you say soo easily that it will be with you through out your life? I do understand you feeling and how hard it can be. Why dont you shave off ur head and do not wear hair wig when at home and tell ur close others to keep an eye on you to prevent you from your hand reaching you head and when ur successful, reward yourself in one way or the other. Try to get help!!

  • well i went to the confrences held by TLC they can help a lot! mine has gotten worse over the years, but if you surround yourself with really good and understanding friends you'll pull less. i pull where my part lines used to be. ive tried many things to try to stop, but i havent found the right thing yet.

  • i have trich too and i think you are really brave for posting this. ive had it since i was 9 and now that im in college i will generally stay in my room unless i have class because im so ashamed of myself. ive tried all possible ways to stop but none are working. do you have any suggestions?

  • i have it to im started when i was 8 and now im 10, im so scared

  • i know how you feel,; I started when I was 10 and now I'm 20. Just know that they are working on how to stop it and you're not the only one going through this. Stay brave hun!

  • brave girl..

this might work.. for some ppl... try wearing thick headbands! (it will cover the front of ur hair) and put in hair extensions(if u have hair, about a inch) and that will help with ur confidence.. ebay sells cheap nail tip extensions. Also try getting long finger nails done, and it might prevent it a little bit, gloves, beanies, and use clips. I have had this condition and over come it and these were all helpful..

  • hifvjhvkh;ihlhgkgjdjcgggggggggggggg

  • Me, my dad, and my nephew have this genetic disorder. I have had to get my hair shaved at least once every school year. I get bald spots in my hair, and last year, I was made fun about it. Friend request me if you are a victim of this to.

  • im kinda embarresed but i pull then eat the root i aim for the most thikes and strongets piece and pull it up and see what i find! any help?

  • OMG! I just started pulling my eyelashes out last year in February! :O

I was hoping I would kinda "grow out of it"

I didnt know it was an actual disorder.

  • i started 2 years ago and i pull out my eyelashes its horrible you will be going through alot trust me!

  • I have gone through this situation and cant even explain the situation. It is hard and awful and your self esteem goes down the drain. I dont wish this upon NOBODY!! Trust me it is terrible. I tried evrything you can think of hypnosis and didn't worl. How did I stop? Believ it or not, cause I wouldn't have a couple of years ago. God was the reason. I asked him with all my heart and faith and he sure did. I havent pulled since then!!!

  • u are so lucky how did you do it im so scared i dont no what to do

  • An antioxidant called N-acetylcysteine, sold over the counter at vitamin stores really helps!

  • I am confused about Trichotillomania. I also feel relaxed and soothed when i pull out my hair (scalp and eyebrows) I am not bald but I am real confused. I know that Trich is can be related to anixtey disorders, which I have. Anybody know if I have it or not?

    Thanks!

  • I want to give you a big hug for being so brave and talking about this issue. Have you thought about hypnosis?

  • Have you read about Inositol? Its a Vitamin and has been found to really help Trich. I have that with little hairs on my face. I also bite my fingers all around the cuticles, and also extract my pores. You're right it is relaxing but it is AWFUL later. :(((( I'm trying the Inositol. Give it a go! Good luck! You look really sweet!

  • =O! I have it too. I remeber how it started, I was in classroom, i was studieng french and a friend of mine started to do it. I watch her for a while and ask her why she did it, she said it was for fun. Suddenly I found my self pulling hair in moments when im sad, nervous or something that gets me sad or a smiliar feeling. It started when i was 15-16 i think. I still do it but i just pull my hair from my head, It disturbing, im 19 now and it sucks, i hate it. I want help but im scared.

  • I started pulling my mom's hair when I was a baby. Then, when my hair grew out long(I was 3, and I look good with longer hair.), I started pulling my hair. I used to pull my sister's hair, to. It does suck.

  • I have been pulling out eyelashes for the last nine years. Good to know I'm not alone.

  • I got it to

  • I have it too.

I keep pulling my eyelashes out when I get stressed.

I have to draw my eyebrows on because of Trich.

I started it back in 3rd grade...

I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

  • that's a nice video.

    I like it.

I think it get the main points of trich across very well, I'll definitly show this to people so they can understand it better.

  • i have trich to i hate it so much i hate my self now it has caused me so much hell after the 6 monthes ive had it i hate it i cry almost every day because of it every one teases me for it i feal so ugly i cant get away from it ive tries so hard ive done the gloves the wigs the hats the medication nothing works any one have any tips???

  • •••Answer To xxkirstencxx•••

    well, i have Trichotillomania too.

and my mom helped me. she would

tell me to wear gloves and beanies.

it kinda worked for me a little. i just wanted

to give you tips and help you.

  • I have it. I hate myself.

  • does pulling your pubic hair count?

  • Technically yes. I've found that some people who have it only pull from one area but some pull from multiple places---pubic area, legs, armpits, eyebrows, eyelashes, scalp---you name it.

  • Wow ur very brave for makin a vid on this. I've had it since i waz 6 and im 13 now. I pull my eyelashes so to cover it up i wear thick eyeliner. none of my friends kno and it iz very hard to always have to b worried bout them finding out.

  • wow, you have alot of courage for making a video of this. this video actually made me cry. i dont know why. i just really wanna stop pulling out my hair :( i;ve been doing it only for a month. but i feeel like i can not stop :( i dont wanna bee baldd. orr wear a wiggg. :| i pul out major chunks in my hair. and none of my friends know about it.. im scared to tell them. and i havent gone to a salon yet because im scared there gonna see my bald spots :( what do you do? pleasee reply in a message<3

  • I have it too... Mine i pull my eyebrows. I've been doing it since i was really young. Maybe 3 or 4 years old. I'm 24 now. I just went for eyebrow embroidery cause i'm so sick of drawing it everyday.

I'm not sure bout you guys. But i dont pull my hair when i go on holiday with friends. Cause i find it embarrassing. So, i have most of my eyebrow when i'm on holiday. So, maybe it'll help if you go on a holiday with your friends more often. Hehehe...

  • Well done for talking about it! I have it too, not severly but I pull out all my hairs that are different (I have a lot of hairs that are black and curly, I pull them all out). I have a noticeable patch now :S you describe it really well, and I hope you can get help for it; I have a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy appointment tomorrow and we'll see if that can help me or not.

Again, well done for speaking out, I think you're very brave :)

  • I have Trich. i gots biggy baldspots

  • i did it since i was 11 stoped for about a few months then started again <.< i just want my eyelashes back i hope they find a cure for it :) friend me girl!!

  • I have trich and derm...(I pull out my hair and pick at my scalp) I've been at it since I was 11 now im 24. I hate it. i really wish there were specialists out there to help people like us. I just started wearing scarves on my head and putting vicks and witch hazel on my sores. it's soothing and It makes it harder for me to pull/pick. Keep trying to find a cure for urself. Just cuz they haven;t found one yet doesn't mean you have to be stuck with it for life! Don't give up!

  • I've had this since 4th grade. I'm proud to say that haven't pulled in a little over a year.

  • awesome.

  • There was an article in the Ottawa Sun newspaper last week about this syndrome.

I've always yanked hair out of my head but not to the same degree that has become an addiction. I can easily understand how it could though.

Young lady; you are brave, well spoken and have educated yourself about this disorder. You are on the right track.

    Good luck in the future!

  • Hi - what a brave video! You have alot of heart. I want you to know that there is hope for trich if you want to stop pulling. I'll be doing an online seminar July 30.

    Interested?

  • I am not alone now, we should be stopped to do this behavior. Take care of yourself.

  • I just knew about trich from yesterday.

I feel much better that I know I'm not the only one :)

I pick my eyelashes. but only the top part weirdly.. I wish I could srsly stop :(

  • I am happy that you don't feel alone anymore, because that is one of the worst feelings ever!

  • ive had this for 3 years. i have no top eye lashes either :/ its terrible.... and barly any eyebrows.. :/ message me

  • It's been 6 years now. Gonna be 21 soon. I've refrained from pulling for 2 months and I hope I can keep this up.

    You're not alone. Don't worry.

  • I wish I could have eyebrows once again even if it was for a month.. I just cant help it

  • I have it too!!! I wish I could stop . . .

  • Say are you tired?

  • I've had trich since I was in 3rd grade. I'm going into 11th now. I've never gone to a doctor or gotten treatment because my mom is scared they'll put my on anti-depressants. =/

Thats hard because I want to get help so badly, and really all I have is myself. But it's always nice to know I'm not alone. :)

  • you're not alone, there are tonnes of us out there. <3

  • i had it ....

but i just convinced myself to stop about 4 years agoooo

it is hard to stop yeah, but once you just keep yourself busy, its hard to think about it.

just try to keep yourself away from it :)

  • Please dont think you are stuck with it forever. I have had it all my life and I am 42. It can be managed.. Stay busy. Idle hands are the devils work. Keep moving and talk to others like yourself, and me and many others... Dont ever give up... BT

  • I just found out I have Trich... I have a bald spot now too because of it... I hope it doesn't take too long for the hair to grow back. Hopefully I can keep myself from pulling it again... D:

  • i doubt it

  • its very had to stop, and its taken awhile to grow mine back

  • i have this tick bt it rarely happens to me i do this because when the hair grows back its very slow and when i touch the hair it feels all itchy thts why i like it but i never pull my hair, very rare occasions

  • i've known i've had it since 4th grade. ugh..the worst.

  • I've also had it since 4th grade.

One day I was at Target with my mom. My eyes were itching me. I pulled out every single lash on both my bottom lids that day. The rest were quick to follow.

they've grown back a hundred times only to be pulled out again.

My eyebrows too. I have many a school picture that looks like I went through Chemo, until I started wearing eyeliner in 7th grade.

I just graduated high school this year, and I still have it. Recently I've moved on to the hair on my scalp.

  • the worst. first it was the hair on my head, then my eyebrows, then my eyelashes, then the hair on my head again. i'm a senior this year and i would rather people not remember me like this. <.<

  • hi, i´m pulling my hair since i was 8...now i´m 17...doctors tried a lot of medicaments with me, you know, like anti-depressiva and serotonin-thingies....i even went to a psychiatric hospital for 6 months.....nothing helped me to find out, why i do this or how i could change the fact, that i have to do it.....my doctor has no clue, and my parents don´t care....i guess i need to live with it...

  • I'm glad that you were so brave enough to do this. I would not be. Mine is not as bad as yours but I do have this habit at pulling at my eyebrows and eyelashes, it's irritating and although I don't think about it every living minute, it's hard to not pay attention to it when I'm at home. My eyebrows now feel funny and I'm getting bald spots, which is why I have bangs and my eyelashes aren't as thick as they used to be. I started pulling my eyelashes at around 5th grade.

  • I understand how you feel.

I pull out my hair as well.

If anyone ever needs to talk about this with me, I have a video up about it.

    Message, Comment, whatever.

    I'm here for you.

  • Its nice to see that I'm not alone in this. I've only just figured out what it is after 6 years of pulling. You're so brave to put this video up, I'm so embarrassed about it, I can't even bring myself to tell my parents! Keep strong! xoxox

  • Hey

I've been pulling since since like maybe 3rd grade.

Right now i am looking up to you man.

u r so brave to post.

I can't tell ppl about it i am so scared. I wish more ppl knew about it.

  • i have tric to. and your not stuck with it for the rest of your life.

  • I am a hair stylist in the Delaware/ Philadelphia PA area. My clients are primarily trich clients. They are amazing people! Some ove which over time have been able to stop pulling. You all should not be embarrassed. Be confident in yourselves! Just be you! I wish I could do more to help my clinets and help you all. And if you need a stylist who understands...I can be your gal (if your in my area...) Keep your chins up!! :-)

  • I've been pulling at my hair since I was 13. It's not so much pulling as constantly running my fingers through my hair to pull out the loose strands. When my hands aren't occupied, they always seem to go straight to my hair. I can't stop and my hands start to shake and I get really tense when I try to. I'm not sure if I have trichotillomania, because I haven't been diagnosed (may parents think i'm a hypochindriac) but I'm starting to think I might.

  • ive got this too started wen i was 12 im 19 now. its prob the best its been in years but im defo far from cured and ive noticed my little sister doing it i guess she picked it up from me :/

  • i do not have trich but my best friend does since she opened up to me about this i really keep this close to my heart i understand how you feel and its really good your showing awareness on youtube [;

  • my name is Vick, I'm 19 years old now but back then when I was 13 and all the way till I was 15 I have this same problem... It all started when I found out my mom has breast cancer. I was so scared of losing her and basically I got so stressed out and started pulling... She passed away and I moved on. I let go of everything and I turned to Jesus. I prayed and ask His help and right when i turned 16 till now, the urge miraclously starting to die out. Now im 19, n my hair grew back.

  • Hey , i'm from Asia, and i also have this disorder, its friggin embarrassing ! I'm forced to tie up my hair to cover the bald patches. And when my friends knew about this, they laughed at me. I'm so humiliated. :'(

Still trying to recover though. It really needs a super willing to stop. Seriously, it does. Tried it before, stopped pulling for a week, but then cant stand the sensation, so i started again, and my bald patches is getting wider . sheesh.

  • dont listen to your "friends"! they obviously dont understand. you can stop this i know you can!just keep a positive attitude. :) here are some tips that i find helpful!

    1. bandaids: the slick kind. you cant pull with them on and when people ask about them you can just say that you bite your nails.

    2. gloves: if you pull at night. its impossible.

    3. rubber thimbles: impossible again! theyre fun to play with and during school you can just say that they help you turn pages. tons of people do that

  • i meant that for puteriamirah...haha.

reading back on the beginning i just sound like a jerk. hahaha, silly me.

  • I have trich too. thank you so much for making this. as im typing this right now im having to fight the urges because they get the worst at night. oh, and just so you know, in a lot of cases of trich you can grow out of it when you reach adulthood. some cases you dont, but im praying im a case that i can. im 14 also, and i've been battling it since i was 8.

  • argh. i have this. fuck. makes me look soo fucking wierd i have to wear a beanie all the time. shit. does it grow back? ive only been doing it for afew weeks but i have this huuuuuuuuuge bald patch on my head. its at the front above my face and is about the size of my palm. i got big hands too. does it grow back!! help!!!
