  • makes me cry

  • phew! wow. is all i can say.

  • I love this song. Jan's angelic voice gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. Simply amazing!

  • How it reminds of DC.

  • I remember my Dad singing this song to me and my sister at bedtime. Takes me back and makes me realize how good I had it when I was a kid.

  • As the video depicts, some of us wish we knew what it would be like to have a good mother and a father we could look up to. We can only hope that our parenting skills are better than those who raised us.

  • OMG I just heard this in the car. What an AMAZING SONG! Made me think of how lucky I am...

  • THUMBS UP FOR THE GOOD MOTHERS!!!!

  • our wedding dance for the mother/son daughter/father dance, gonna be awesome. getting married this saturday nov 5. XD

  • @hiphopnfresh how did it go?:)

  • what an amazing, beautiful song. One of my most favourite songs.

  • Why is it that others feel it necessary to post "screw this and that" can ube a little more original. We come here to listen to a song, not to see the garbage posted. Get an effing blog and write your personal feelings there ok. Most of them cant even write proper English. Fucking annoying.

  • Still makes me cry.

  • Screw lady gaga.. Jann Arden is for REAL..A True Canadian with a MASS amount of talent.. I would be honored to sing with her someday...U go girlfriend... from the east

  • Screw Madonna, Lady Gaga, Pink, and all those other broads with plenty of image and no real talent, and screw the fame we hoist upon them. This gal can really sing. Her image? She has none. She can sing like an angel, and that's all the image she needs.

  • amazin song whats da year of it? my englich sux hope ya understand wot i wrote

  • @vegana13 1994.

  • Once again, a cool video and song RUINED by an obnoxious advertisement.

  • Feet on ground, heart in hand, facing forward, be yourself!

  • @Linds3y182

I'm from Canada. Who else do you think gives a shit about what happens in Canada?

And we should be ashamed to see the people sleeping in our streets in any decent sized town or city, , in sleeping bags, in the middle of the fucking winter in Toronto? And young people too in their 20's, and not the thrown out of a psych hospital or career hobo street sleepers ( who also, incidentally, deserve a better life then they can find in our country)

    Shame, shame, shame!

  • Such a great song. Everyone should call their mothers.... right now.

  • My biological mother walked away from me before I was a year old. She went on to have 14 children after me and walked away from them also. My great-grandmother raised me even though at my birth she was 75, when I was about 10 I went to live with my grandmother and she was prolly 52 then. I lost my second mother last week along with her son who was my father in all possible ways. They loved me so much and I miss them terribly...

This song reminds me so of them and how blessed I was to have them.

  • @alchemyangel72 Your birth mother is only the lady who brought you into this world, your MOTHER is the one who loved you and took care of you all these years. You are blessed to have her.

  • you know what's so sad...this could be any street corner in any city in Canada! Canada should be ashamed of all the people sleeping in the streets, they don't look so shiny and squeaky clean through my eyes...in fact, Canada should be very ashamed of their disregard for their impoverished youth

  • @msminervajones wow, where are you from? Canada should be ashamed? You got to be kidding me.

  • @msminervajones wow! Canada should be ashamed? Where are you from? Pretty sure its like that all over the world last time I checked. Canada is actually pretty lucky compared to most.

  • you know what's so sad...this could be any street corner in any city in Canada! Canada should be ashamed of all the people sleeping in the streets, they don't look so shiny and squeaky clean through my eyes

  • Feet on ground. Heart in hand. BE yourself!

  • I dedicate this song to my mother on her birthday for she is and always will be my rock. Happy Birthday Mom I love you XXX OOO

  • Happy Canada Day, Jan!!!!

  • my mom raped me and threw me down 12 dozen stairs 8 dozen times at least a single dozen times a week...put that together and you got 21 dozen reasons why this song sucks 42 dozen times...thats a bakers dozen. FEEL ME

  • @FNBBMX a baker's dozen is 13.

  • Great song!!

Just funny knowing it from Dawson's Creek <3

  • Yes, this woman is SO real and pure, jot a gimmick like many of these other "characters" I have Jann's CDS and read her lyrics. She is SO amazingly talented and organic. This younger generation needs organic artists with soul. Our kids are really getting so damaged with these "sex-saturated" artists. RIGHT On JANN. We Love you in America!!

  • mad? hahaha i meant day.. damn, this dyslexia hahaha

  • I don't know how i ended here in this page, but this song has made my mad... wonderful!

  • Hey, sweetie, it's me (mom). I kinda thought this couldn't be coincidence since pc are your initials and you were born in 85 :). ILU

  • @amamdoll so amazing i LOVE U

  • This was recommended to me by my son. What a great song.

  • @amamdoll I recomended it to my mom too. sent it to her a few years ago. she resent it to me yesterday when i needed it most

  • @amamdoll i recomended it to my mom a few years ago and resent it to me yesterday when i needed it =-]

  • And best of all.....she sings it like she damn well means it.

  • feet on ground, heart in hand, facing forward be yourself - possibly the best advice ever given!!! : )

  • @brianallen103 I think you are right...how much simpler does it get than that!

  • There are times where you cannot stop listening to this song!

I haven't had a really good mother actually... "I never wanted anything so bad!"

  • Thank you to Jann Arden and Robert Foster for writing such a beautiful song!

    Lovely Video.

  • A response to the one who posted that this song has always reminded them of Canada for some reason....Jann Arden is a Canadian from Calgary....

  • I listen to this song when I am feeling discouraged. It reminds me that I have the most wonderful mother in the world who keeps me strong, and because of her "I've never wanted anything", that is my favourite line in the song, because it means I've never lacked or been deprived of anything. I praise God for giving me my mother :)

  • Lady Gaga can come out with every beat and lyric known to man.

Ke$ha can wear all the glitter she wants.

I will always come back to this song and feel whole

  • @animeluver168

That is one of the coolest comments I've read about a song. And you're right, this song has a certain, centering or "trueing" abiity to it. Jann is awesome like that. Real music.

  • @jimano1969 well, thank you ^^

  • @animeluver168 and yet u see her beside the video lol

  • @animeluver168 Outstanding comment!! Love it!

  • @animeluver168 You are so right!

  • love this song, my Mom used to love Jann Arden and Amanda Marshall and I find myself listening to them alot at the moment... I blame it on hormones as I'm 8 months pregnant. Mom died 8 years ago in July and this song brings tears to my eyes (Im blamin that on hormones too!) as I'm missin her like crazy.

  • I absolutely love this song! It feels like I wrote it. :)

  • This song makes me think about how much I love my parents.

  • I don't even know if you still listen to this song but this is one that makes me remind of you! You will always stay in my heart Nani. So glad for knowing you! Mone

  • This video is simply a MASTERPIECE!

  • To me, this song is timeless. When I was vulnerable and on my own, it reminded me of how much my mom believed in me... how much her love was always sustaining me behind the scenes even though I didn't realize it. She basically always told me, "You rock, kiddo," although not in so many words.

Then I had my own child... I wanted to be that same good mother to him, and although I thought I was... he still needed more than I could give. He still lay in that carboard box in the rain...

  • wow... I remember when this song came out. Talk about soaring vocals. Jann is timeless.

  • If you love this song, check out the Good Mother/With or Without You mashup by Rachael Crux & Dave Tedd.

  • My mother passed when i was 3. Im 18 and I still miss her. Im homeless like the guy in the video... This song touches me.

  • who is that beautiful homeless person in this video?

  • this song makes me think of my mom shes the best :)

  • ukiehlopchik nice to have you as a neighbor too :) I am canadian

  • This song never gets old. The voice, the lyrics, the melody, EVERYTHING about this song is beautiful. I love my family very very much, this song just makes me feel really close to them. Does anyone get that feeling when they listen to it?

  • jANN, THANKS FOR WRITING THIS SONG. KITCHENER, ON

  • My mom's passing will be one year ago on the 9th of February. Whenenver I miss her and need something to smile about, this is one video I turn on. It helps.

  • Why have only 109,472 people found this song on here?

  • It's funny how something like a song can be so important. Every time i hear this song I think of driving around town with my mother on a warm summers day in our rust bucket of a car that will fall apart at ay moment singing along at the top of our lungs not caring if we were out of key. Lord knows she's put me through hell and isn't the best mother out there but Goddamnit I love her to death and I'll be danmed if that ever changes.

  • mom dies a few yrs ago..played this at her funeral....I listen to it for comfort. Realize that moms are never to be taken for granted...peace

  • yeeeee canada :) best musicians, pure talent. jann arden has a great voice!!

  • This song reminds me of my life.... my mother is no longer here with us in the flesh.. I used to play this song to her and my father and tell them this song was me!!!!!!!

Im even more aware of the words and the relevance of them... Love you mum... always in my heart

  • One of my favourite songs by Jann. Absolutely love her.

  • I requested this song on the radio a few years back for her on her birthday. She heard it and cried. Our love for each other is solid and I couldn't imagine my life without her. Even at 41. She is my rock.

  • Can someone explain the video / lyrics to me? I don't understand

  • It always reminds me how lucky I am to have everything I have(:

  • This is one of the best songs EVER. I could listen to this everyday of the week, and twice on Sunday...and still feel like I'm going to burst into tears everytime. Emotion-packed song.

  • love this song, one of my favourites and always brings a tear to my eye, brings me back memories when i was younger with my mom, but sadly she developed an addiction and its hard to talk to her, because she is so defensive and unpredictable with her emotions, sadly i stay awy from her now. I wish I had my old mother back, the one who really cared for me alot and when she was fun.

  • This song makes me cry because I have a great mother.

  • @antoine1984 I had a great Mother... Cancer is evil.... Phone your Mom - and your Dad, just 'cause you can :)

  • @mccoobs agreed.

  • @MyVoicenotSilenced Thank you for that important piece of advice. I've learned very quickly that there is no use in harping on the things we can't change, and I have been tirelessly driving home that same message with the youth I work with. I wish you all the best with your music.

  • actually i'm a bit surprised that this song isn't anywhere near the 1 million hit mark yet.... seriously???

such a GREAT song by such a GREAT Canadian singer/songwriter!!!! One of the best in Canada's history!!!

Hey Jann, i know you're quite a bit older than me (i'm 28 & from Vancouver, BC), and probably married with kids etc... but I LOVE YOU anyways!!!! You're so pretty & I love you!!!!! ok, there i finally said it, lol. :)

  • story from my fast :'(

  • Absolutely remarkable song.

  • Love this song, Mom you mean the world to me <3

  • Every night I lay on my bed as i'm getting ready to sleep and I realize how blessed I am to have a mother who will support me through anything. I work with at-risk youth and most of the time these kids come from broken homes or parents who have abandoned them because they'd rather satisfy their addiction. Every-time I see these kids I feel for them because I want them to experience the love and support I get from my mother.

  • 1994?? Wow I'm getting old!

  • 1994?? Sow I'm getting old!

  • love my mother and country GO CANADA!!!!!!!!!, ILY JANN ARDEN!!!

  • @TheDbeaupre I know the heartbreak of losing a son. My deepest sympathies and condolensces.

  • @richardthewriter thank you same to you

  • @TheDbeaupre Oh my goodness... I can't even imagine the pain you must have felt when your beloved son Chris passed away... it's like you didn't have enough time with him... not enough time to see him grow up into an independent young man, explore life, fall in love, marry, have children... all the good wishes we have for our kids. Heartache doesn't even begin to describe it.

  • I first heard this song in Dawson's Creek. I love that show, and now I love this song. I sing it all the time.

  • i think we should all love one another like the love of a mother...

  • I played this song at my mothers funeral to remind me of everything that my mother gave me that would be with me forever even if she couldn't be. Am weeping on my keyboard.

  • Thinking of you mom and dad, always...

  • hi jann

this is one of my favorite videos of yours, the cinematography is quite cinematic and of course, great song. makes me think of all those kids i used to see downtown vancouver with nowhere to go. i'm sure there's lots still there

  • really wonderful song

  • I LOVE HER!!!! she is so awsome !! and FUNNY wow

  • I have a FANTASTIC mother.

  • Thanks Ukiehlopchik... I'm glad we are neighbours too. Cheers from Alberta Canada.

  • My son has chosen this song for his wedding dance with me....what an honor. I love you Shaun, and the colour of your hair. Mom

  • its not really my type of music but man she sure can sing

  • I love this song! Reminds me of myself and now that I'm a mother it makes me want to be the best I can be!

  • I LOVE YOU MOM!

  • I was born and raised in the U.S. I know this may sound a little corny, but this song has always reminded me of Canada. Such a beautiful country, with the world's warmest and friendliest people... and yes, my mother is from there!

To all you Canadians out there, it's great to have you as neighbors. And more importantly, it feels good to have northern roots. :)))

  • @ukiehlopchik Thanks from Toronto!

  • @ebonijayde repppin T.O.!!!

  • Can a Chicago guy get some love from all the Canadians? lol Because I love artists and the people who originate from Canada!!!!

  • @ukiehlopchik beautiful thank you : )

  • @ukiehlopchik thank you!

  • @ukiehlopchik Well I feel the same way about, America!

  • @ukiehlopchik

thanks so much.. we dont hear that alot! that means alot :D

  • @ukiehlopchik Awww we love you too!!! *hug*

  • @ukiehlopchik ^-^ thanks, its nice to know we're loved. The states is like a big brother to us and it's nice having you by our side. <3

  • @ukiehlopchik I wish that most people could find a commonality with others!. Your connection with you Canadian folk is how other humans should feel about other humans. A CONNECTION. much love and good to see the love for your people!

  • @ukiehlopchik I'm not even Canadian and that felt fucking nice.

  • @ukiehlopchik

Hey, I'm Canadian. Live in BC, Greater Vancouver. Now, while I do agree that we are very polite people. "Sorry" Lol, well, I do also think we are very reserved people. Not so much friendly, but polite. You know where it IS very friendly? The Latin culture. Your family is their family. It's very open and welcoming. However, they are judgmental. Europe is...not so much polite or nice. New Zealand/Australia on the other hand, I have found to be the friendliest place. And no judging.

  • @ukiehlopchik That;s so nice and i have to agree i love Canada cuz I'm Canadian and it is very beautiful!!!

  • @ukiehlopchik This song makes me proud to be Canadian. But I really appreciate our American neighbours.

  • @ukiehlopchik the warmest and most accepting comment I've read in about a decade. Back atcha ukiehlopchik

  • Seen Jann twice in concert. Fantastic live. My favourite Jann Arden song.

  • I grew up listening to Jann and was delighted to hear her sing live this week!

This has been one of my favorite songs for as long as I can remember, and hearing it live was just an incredible experience I'll never forget! :D

  • I just discover her some time ago and I love Jann Arden. Her concert in Montreal was awesome. Through her songs she transmits a lot of emotions!

  • This song is one of the best I have ever heard. Great!!

  • I am that "good mother". Sadly, it wasn't enough for my own son...

This song always makes me cry... my love was not enough to conquer his drug addiction.

  • I am so glad to hear you recognize that you ARE a good mother and that it wasnt your fault, because you did all that you could. Sometimes the hardest part of being a parent is watching them make the wrong choice. And too many mothers do not recognize that they ARE good mothers. You are not a bad parent if your child ends up in a ban position. I hope you have found all the support you need. :) Big hugs.

  • @mariehansler (Sorry for the late response.) Hey Marie, with support like yours, I can't go wrong! :) Thank you so much for your kind words. They really help a lot to assuage the natural guilt we feel as parents sometimes. You are right. It is hard to watch them make the wrong choices, but hopefully they have some sort of higher power watching over them and guiding them too. Thanks so much.

  • @Marjatta57 A mothers love is always their as for having an addiction its one of the roads that many of us will have to conquer mothers can lead us to the many roads in life but its our decisions that we choose the right road we will never no till we travel it for awhile you sound like a good mother and dont blame yourself life is a great big classroom their is always something to learn and we might not learn everything in one lifetime so dont blame yourself .God Bless

  • @boone970 Thank you! (Sorry my response is so late.) Your wise words gave me great comfort and are much appreciated. :) It's never too late. We are always learning as you said on the "many roads in life." How true! Thanks again.

  • @Marjatta57 I'm praying for you. :)

  • @Marjatta57 I'm praying for you. :)

  • @Marjatta57 love helps to conquor drug additction but it is not always enough.

please know in your heart that you tried your best and it is NOT your fault.addiction can overtake someone's character b/c it is so powerful.im so sorry you are going through this.i hope this message helps you cause I was once addicted to drugs and I can only make it up to my mother everyday forward.I use youtube daily but never signed up, i did today so i can THANK YOU for being a good mother on behalf of your son

  • @Marjatta57 So long as you realise you were a "good" mother - we cannot control the choices our children make, unfortunately :( they grow and choose their own path...

  • @CrackPot1955 Thank you! Those were the words I needed to hear today. God bless.

  • @Marjatta57 Me too : (

  • @Marjatta57 its not your fault lady, i cant take your pain away. But there is love after death.

  • Vocal master...Musical masterpiece!! Jann rocks, BIG TIME!!

  • Jann's best by far............a ballad of perfection!!

  • I thought this song was alright until I heard the blasphemy - What a shame

  • @stjohn37 blasphemy? can you explain please what you find blasphemous about this song, I dont see it.

  • Whe you use the name God & the word Da_ _ together, what you do is use His name to express disgust or excitement. This is what He (God) commands not to do. Would you use your "Mother's" name to express disgust?

  • shut up

  • Wow - a truth hater are we? Why the need to be rude?

  • @stjohn37

your right, but alot of people are blind, sorry to say, keep speaking the truth, God is on your side

    blessings

    nita

  • @stjohn37

You are 100% right, people use the name of the lord in vain breaking the 3rd commandment. I always ask would you use your mother's name as a curse word? then why use the name of GOD who gave you life? I get even more offended when people use JESUS CHRIST as a curse word b/c it is more specific, GOD is more general.

  • @stjohn37 God's last name is NOT damn. It really offends me when people use those two words together. I'm glad we are on the same page

  • @richardthewriter relax, you pinhead it's just a song!!!!

  • @ahp1073 pinheads. now THERE was a good 80s band. Man I miss them. Don't it make ya feel like dancing?

  • @stjohn37 I'm glad songwriters don't worry about every possible indignation while writing songs. What a generic mess we'd have then. So she uses GD in the song. Big deal. I doubt God is losing any sleep over it. There are bigger things going on in the world than a lyric to a song.

  • I love her. I love her alot, my fave song EVER!!!

  • I love her! Her music is so beautiful...

  • Wow no comments yet? One of my favorite Canadian singer's! Makes me proud she's a Canadian and proud to be Canadian too. :)
