  • I wondered when I first heard this if BF was mocking the TV evangalist with this song or if he was really wanted to do a sincere religious song. It really doesn't matter, it just goes to show you that he can sing anything - 50's, dylan, crooning 30's, pop or discotheque sexy - he can do it all! Forever More - Forever More!

  • @carreenw A SINCERE RELIGIOUS SONG???? LOLOLOLOLOLO

really? can't you see the brilliant irony in his face in every line?

  • @pedrocollares OK maybe I am being naive. I know he is a showman and would have been a great actor as well. He would have played a great vampire back in the day. I love the mountain so high note!

  • can someone pleeese upload the complete album , go on pleeeeese , i dont know how to , lol

  • @garrycollett hi I would strongly recommend buying "The Thrill of it all" Roxy Music 2 disc DVD. For 19.99 on Amazon, worth every penny. Great videos from the beginning thru the early 80's.

  • still the best video on youtube

  • So in the last four years since this was uploaded it has less than 150,000 views. Incredible how much so many people are missing. Sad ...

  • this is great song and performance nose snow or no show , who cares its cool BF

  • thats as good as it gets for me

  • wenn bf zur munharmonika greift - genial ....

  • He's been on he nose snow. All that cracking of the jaw and lip chewing type of movements. Love this song though.

  • @sonsielass1 In my opinion he smoked a pair of joints before... Maybe he took a line too; he does not seem to be drunk but a bit high... Who knows?? Those were the 70's... Not the best times to avoid all kind of drugs, man! However, this a celestial song; undoubtedly

  • I don't think he is singing in a mocking fashion. That is just the way Bryan sings. He is superb!

  • @MrIMBECILE1 you're right..that's the way he sings..this is FERRY, at his off-beat..off-key best..it is not mocking..

  • my harmonica is bigger, lol!!

  • one of the most beautiful songs of b. ferry - i think so - he has never been underrated ... he is one of the best

  • no one sings like bf no one writes like him so underrated it is criminal.who are the six we are coming to get you

  • @dalriada1962 why should bf be underrated ? I do not understand ....

  • Where were all these amazing videos all these years. Roxy's resurgence on the internet scene and Ferry's current topping of the Euro club scene speaks the preverbial volumes of their timeless vision. Amped up "honkey"-tonk Gospel is even more fresh now than it was then! This is ART.

  • BRYAN FERRY, IN LOUNGE LIZARD TUX WARBLES TO HIS LORD AND SAVIOR..

  • most awesome.

  • like all great art, the performance speaks for itself. Mr. Ferry being an artist surely understood, that when giving this performance, it would be interpreted by others according to the personal referents in their lives connected to the words and music of this performance. he probably felt his intention for writing this song and performing it would matter little, since the viewing of it by others would generate new meanings that he probably never considered. it stands up well as art and music.

  • Funny, spiritual, campy, uplifting. I thought I loved Bryan Ferry before but I had no idea.

  • I always took this song to be mocking. I don't know if it is. But as an atheist that's how I'm gonna take it. lol.

  • @bluefox4000 This song is not mocking! Why must athiest always be so prejudiced. I'm not stupid enought to go to "Dear God" by XTC & try to make myself as a Christian believe it's a great Christian song. You can`t change the beauty of this song`s spirituality.

  • @mosriteluv lol....very funny

  • if belting along with that dosnt lift your spirit .. check your pulse, u may already be dead... when Andy hits the sax ...joy and when bryan gets the tamboreen..!! rebirth!!!.. nice to find a prayer for groovers now and then ...meanwhile..time for a noter martini

    cheers x

  • If Mr Dylan had written this they would have stood in line to drool at its pastiche bitter irony......Roxy...just a glam "pop" band with pretty boy Ferry...yeh right ..this is rock be bop

  • This is amazing. I am a beliver. Attending a few too many funerals this year.

  • first line

    is it

    try on youre faith?

  • Wow, this is amazing. It has always been one of my favorite Roxy Music songs, but what an amazing live performance. I loved it when Bryan picked up the tambourine. Like a Methodist revival :-)

  • ... wenn ferry zur mundharmonika greift - einfach genial :-)

  • This is fantastic! I had no idea this clip existed. It's every bit as good as the LP. Thanks! Anyone know the original source?

  • @tonyvideo2000

It says "Musikladen" in the backgrond of the video. And "Der Musikladen" was a West German music television programme that ran from December 13, 1972 to November 29, 1984.

  • Fantastic! The piano and the drums are the foundation in this song. Paul Thompson is my all time favorite.

  • One of the Few songs to Take with me into the Tomb

  • One of the Few songs to Take with me to the Tomb

  • Love the clarinet. Sounds just like a blues sax!

  • @MrNYDoll

I think it's a soprano saxophone, but never mind, it sounds cool.

  • ... in late '73 this particular song wouldn't somehow fit into Roxy's glam-repertoire... but through the years "Psalm" has aged VERY WELL as some kind of an hypnotic monster-ballad!

  • Brisbane riverstage concert was a high point again for me with Roxy. Brilliant and masterful...soooo professional. Great set list and venue. beautiful night of classic Roxy!

  • eines

    der allerschönsten ihrer lieder

  • Debatable about Stranded being the best, fn awesome, but so is the first album, country life damn good too, cant pick!

  • @MrDrum22 Well Stranded is my favorite Album....not 1 bad cut on there

  • @MrDrum22 good call - Dreamhome, Out of the Blue, Ladytron, Chance Meeting, the list goes on. On my list though, Stranded is only challenged by OK Computer, Graceland and Electric Ladyland.

    Eclectic is good.

  • Perfectly pitched on a knife-edge between irony and genuine sentiment...Those Roxy boys had it all.

  • @insensiblegradations You captured it just right, I couldn't have said it any better. Bravo.

  • unbelievable ... bryan ferry and roxy music on absolut highpoint :-)

  • try out your god

    hope he will send

    kindness from strangers ...

  • just simply brilliant song. goosebumps and all everytime i hear it. i'm looking for more performances of this song, both audio and video. supposedly a bootleg out there has it. did they do this song at concerts back then? the studio version with the welsh choir is simply killer, period. fortunately, i'm old enough to have listened to rm when i just out of college. timeless music, isn't it.

  • @tpmetp This is where I admit that Stranded was the first album I ever bought (my mum was with me at Smiths on Royal Avenue in Belfast when I bought it, with my own money I might add). And hey, its still up there in the all time top 10. Strong strong memories.

  • @madmudrock it was also one of my first albums i bought - this was one of my favorites ...

i do not know how much often i have heard it in these days in the seventies ....

  • Fucking awesome!

Snake-oil salesman turned bible review. I can just feel the dust in my eyes and the sun on my skin.

  • So did, I the backdrop during the show was superb......

  • Saw them at the SECC in Glasgow last fri 28th, and it was one of the best gigs I've been to. Brilliant atmosphere, and all the classics. Worth every penny.

  • Comment removed

  • Unbelievable still after all these years. Off to see them in a couple of weeks. Cutting edge then, brilliant now.

  • Allright, that's it...this is on the playlist for my wake...

  • yep I'm still enjoying this one... what a gem of a find.

It's hilarious when he sings "short of perfection, I try to be good"..........and the expression on his face is so cynical about that idea...

  • Thank You ! J'adore this song !

  • THIS IS SOOO FABULOUS. ROXY MUSICS BEST ALBUM AND ONE OF THEIR BEST SONGS...!!!!!

  • Mackay's playing is brilliant - the icing on this cake for me.

  • I saw Roxy perform this on The Stranded tour in 1973 at the famous Glasgow Apollo. The crowd kept time clapping out on the beat for the entire song. It's one of many great memories seeing top 1970's bands at the venue.

  • This is one of the most extraordinary songs ever to have been produced by a rock band, or indeed any band. Why is Roxy Music known mainly for lowest-common-denominator crap like Angel Eyes and not for pure genius like this?

  • @bundleHastings that's so true ... ein unglaublicher song ... after all this years

  • awwwwwwwwwww man fukkin superb ,the smell of at cigars n ALDIs bourbon ,,,briliant

  • Stranded is their best album and this is the best track on it, truly wonderful, just hope they do it when I go and see them in Jan!!

  • Bryan is so much better than Elvis Presley!!!

  • This is just awesome. What a spectacular performance. If you're not rolling on the floor in hysterics by the time Ferry snaps his fingers and reaches for the harmonica you're not human...

  • @captainvaritek They were different weren't they? Try on his coat, a mantle so fine. Who the fuck else would have written that, whatever it means. I saw them about ten years or so ago for the first time in many years and I couldnt believe how great they still sounded. Even if they are still flogging their arses around the circuit for a few quid, that early stuff was totally original. Like John Peel said , 'where the hell did that come from'?

  • Superb. One of the most underrated songs of all time. Beautifully written. The dynamic is miraculous;from an almost whispered prayer to a stirring inspirational refrain made by patient subtle and utterly accomplished musians backing a messianic vocal performance. forevermore!

  • Mesmerised.......... <3 <3 <3 <3

  • I think the emotion is wonderful

  • sensational a wonderful beathy song

  • I think the emotion is there - and plenty of it is...... mocking IMHO :)

  • @wo804349 Spot on.

  • What a jam - everyone on top form. Awesome.

Stranded is the best Roxy album and this is one of the few times that the live show works as well as - or better than - the studio version. Only missing the Welsh Male Voice Choir in the background... I'm not religious (my mate thinks the words are contrived) but emotion is there in spades. This is big memory music at its very best.

  • @madmudrock for me for your pleasure is their best album ,,but saying that their first three albums are their best ,,and yes only missing the taff choir

  • Wow. Just... wow.

  • Didn't know this song wow great

  • yep - it still doesn't get better than this performance.

  • Roxy is equal to the greats such as the Beatles The Stones, Elvis, Cash, Elton John etc!

  • This is the GREATEST SONG on the planet GOD bless this Awsome wonderful man!

  • Supernaturally Inspirational. Abortion clinic bombing music. Digging up deceased black panthers and waterboarding them music. A Lounge lizard with guys that look like girls in the band AND HE LETS THEM BE PHOTOGRAPHED....Unfortunately there isn't ANYTHING about MASTERbating in this. Warning: hE IS INTO STEALING your Girlfriend he is satan.

  • @pigletized I needed an obscure ILLEGAL name-call-by-you excuse to take your computer. Thanks. see it later. YOU MAY NOT HAVE HEARD I saved the lives of Lee Lee Sobiski, Robert E Lee and Lee Harvey Oswald, and ENDED UP AT a Bryan Ferry party . I smoke 1/3 of a mrijuana cigarette with 666% PCP on it Ferry handed to me . Should i take His computer? Your computer can have sex with his computer...IN A USA NSA computer lockdown closet.

  • @birdhaldol And ahhhh please stay on a higher dose of your medication and for gods sake leave Roxy and all other music alone. I know an excellent psychiatrists if you need a reference. She will help you, but maybe not because you probably hate women even though you masturbate excessively. It must be unpleasant for you!

  • For me this one along with " Dream Home " epitomises this remarkable man's unique and varied slant on contemporary music, The Master in all his glory and more important to mankind than the discovery of the wheel and electricity, what a hero to have for the past 39 years

  • Possibly my favourite Roxy song and performance.

To write this at 16 shows maturity and talent way beyond years.

The intelligence and irony comes across better than in the album, and the quality of the whole performance is very impressive, for a live performance in particular. As jackof10 said - unhurried, unrushed, unforced excellence.

  • great catch on the tamb.

  • so powerful & so so beautiful. Bryan at his very best.

  • für mich immer noch die beste Aufnahme von Roxy Music

  • @Jokieler ein muß für jeden echten atheisten

  • after all these years man,it still fucking raises hairs back of the neck its fucking so far out man

  • Ferry at his very best on this one. Those first three albums were so good.

  • Love the way he laughs at himself in the beginning .."Here's another one"..

  • Amazing to think that reportedly Brian wrote this song when he was only 17 years old, well before the Roxy Music days. It's always been on of my favs.

  • @hucktklr I'd never heard that! Great tune. Love how it just builds and builds.

  • brian eno in keyboard.

  • @migu9999 It's not Brian Eno on keyboards...it's Eddie jobson who replaced Eno on this album

  • wonderful. thank you

  • no need for gizmos just real music roxy at there best!

  • absolutely brilliant

  • Sometimes there are songs that are simply amazing and ayou wish they'd last much longer then the 3 minutes or so that they actually do. . . .

Thankfully THIS song IS a long version !!

Thanks so much for posting it

  • Just watched this 5 times in a row. It's his performance, and the song.....So original. Love it. Thanks for posting.

  • i wish Roxy Music was forever and ever. forever.

  • Man, if you would search for the perfect performance: this is it!

  • I was born in '68. There have been a lot of VERRRY good bands in my lifetime. And this one was better than most of them.

  • Powerful, unique, exceptionally gifted group of young men.

  • This is amazing.

  • beautiful... spine tingling, indeed

  • Man I love these guys! They were so ahead of their time!Q

  • So beautiful!

  • What a superb performance - Viva Roxy Music.

  • I never bore of this, slinky and powerful, they had it all. I bet the newly announced gigs will be good to, all alive at least.

  • awesome.

  • As a lifelong Roxy fan this has to be one of the greatest live performances by them. Bryan Ferry's vocal is amazing and is superbly backed up by the rest of the gang. Simply the best, as we all know!

  • Paul Thompson's regular/irregular drumming still outstanding; never been matched.

    Just gives me goosebumps

  • /signed

  • i'll make you see god...for ever more indeed

  • The word "Exquisite" does not do it justice.

The studio version is a little smoother, but I would sell my soul to see Bryan Ferry live again, especially if I could go back in time to when "stranded" was released.

  • Liam and Noel. look and learn...A master and his equals perform..

  • What is the time signature of this song?

  • Excellent Robbo - what can one more add !!!?!!!

  • my dad is a biggggggg fan of roxy!!!

    thanks

  • Bryan at his best .... for ever more !

  • OUTSTANDING live version of this song. They lock into a groove and they *cook*. Great alto-sax. And Ferry, as usual, is mesmerizing. Thanks for posting it. I still have to get the recent DVD release with this on it. One for the ages. Nobody rocks a white dinner jacket like Bryan.

  • @moondough Can you pleeeease tell me the name of the DVD that this is on and where it is available, as I would love to buy it for this performance alone. Thanks.

  • I have always loved this song and always thought it could use some cowbell.

  • A wonderful song by a wonderful artist for 38 years, and I have followed his every move along the way!

  • @Peberen Me too I first saw them at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park and have been a follower ever since.

  • my favorite version of my favorite Roxy Music song

  • Sensational.. moves your soul..talk about being "in the zone"...this is superb..unrushed & unforced ..excellence..

  • @jackof10 I love how Bryan laughs at the beginning. Really cool song - love the whole CD.

  • Awsome and beautiful!

  • one of the best performances i ever watched. Bravo Roxy

  • what more is there to say? there are no superlatives out there to describe this performance, roxy music 1971 - 1976, untouchable, bravo, viva roxy

  • Back in college (1988) I was at a bar and this song was on the jukebox. Naturally I just had to play it. One of my classmates, knowing I was the one who selected it, came up to me, rolled his eyes and said, "Bryan Ferry sucks. His voice is awful." Suffice to say, I just laughed in his face and walked away. Long story short: To this very day I've never heard a more ignorant comment.

  • I like listening to this song on a Sunday, it makes me feel like I went to church. Forever more ching ching

  • ... this makes life worth living ...

  • So sweet it's nearly painful!

  • This is SO different to their other work. Almost a negro spiritual. Can you imagine if they had issued this and nothing else? Their reputation would have been quite different. And you cannot imagine that this is the same Ferry who once wore all those glittery glam rock outfits. Is Ferry a god-botherer?

  • Head in the Clouds, but I can't see the Lord...Roxy Music at their best.

  • to a new orlins funural march!

  • Wow...............Smashing!
