@hope163 if your shutter is too slow when you are at the aperture you want try increasing the ISO, but as Tom says, you need to be careful not to go too high. I shoot a Nikion D7000 for me ISO 6400 is OK, but I understand that Canon shooters usually use lower ISOs than Nikon shooters.
I'm not trying to be a prick to hope163, but if I paid a "photographer" to shoot an event and saw that their camera was on auto, I'd fire them on the spot.
because i bought now a 560speedlite from canon, and now i have to go to some events shooting, but the pictures are not very sharp.. because my camera - with the speedlite on it, in the P- Mode, takes always automaticly a f. 2.8 ... when i go on the A-Mode and make a f.8 oder 11, the time is to slow... could u maybe helf me? If I have to shoot a groupe of people, and i want them to be all sharp in the picture...but i kinda dont know how....
@hope163 I am not sure if I understand the question but this is what I do. Set your camera to manual. FInd out your sync speed of your camera usually its 1/200th of a second for most cameras and make sure you don't go faster than that. If you do you will have half frames. Set your f stop at f/8 or f/11 whatever you want. Then set your flash to ettl and you should be good to go. I hope I answered your question.
@hope163 Maybe you should stop shooting in P mode and go to Apertue or Manual. thats the way to go!
Or... maybe you need more practice by learning from videos on youtube or a photography curse. Its not by having expensive photography equipment that will make you a better photographer. :P
@hope163 P and A mode will mostly screw up your photos.
U need to get into M (manual ) mode and set your camera to what you have to shoot. U said of people. OK, so u need to think situational. is the group of people going to stand still ? if, then you will do great with even a 1/4 shutter. THat will allow you to go as far as f12 or higher, thus you get more detail. but that could mean higher iso or other flash settings. I suggest you experiment with the V and S modes with flash
@hope163 I hope you have Canon 580EX II (580EX & 550EX are OK). I don't know any current model with 560. Try these steps that ATG has taught me & all pros: 1. Set camera to ASA/ISO 400 (indoor shooting) 2. Fresh 4AA Energizer Lithium Batteries. Don't use those crap NiMH. 3. Place flash on hotshoe. 4. Set Camera to "M" modes. 5. Set Shutter Speed to 60 (1/60) 6. Set F Stop (Aperture) to 5.6 7. Turn on flash. 8. Make sure to place in ETTL. If you are a rookie & beginner. That's it!
@keSshula1 Hey it really does depend on your given situation. If you can't bounce your flash off the ceiling then you will need a diffuser. I also know people who just use diffusers inside as well but for me personally I really like the look of the flash when it is bounced off the ceiling. I hope that helps!
