@torcidaSTobrec Actually, what I said is that HUMWEE is better military vehicle than Russian Vodnik. So, what exactly is your problem?
Also, take in mind that this episode was on air in 2005, when VODNIK was only a concept and yes, as a concept it was better looking than HUMWEE, but it ended up with several technological problems, which make it useless for Army and those problems are not solved yet. But producers of this show couldn't know that, right?
And eventually... the US will design a vehicle to outperform the Vodnik, and also be able to swim. Then Russia will develop one which can do all of that a bit faster. Then the US will do something to also outperform that, and also be able to operate as a submersible... and I'm guessing the Russians will then make one like that, that can also fly.
An endless cycle between Russia and America to determine who has the better toys.
@Ariana321 Exactly. Even if there wasn't external competition, there is always an internal one. LM bushes Boeing, Kharkiv tank factory bashes UralVagonZavod etc etc et :)))
Too bad that all technological advances and inventions first go to military.
Speaking on subject I don't like Hammer as civilian car. But as military vehicle HUMWEE is much better and more successful than Vodnik.
Idea of modular and amphibious vehicle is good, but they didn't make it right for now.
@BitnikGr Oh the Hummer as a civilian car isn't bad. It isn't as capable as the military version though. That said, the only one which is worth a damn is the original "H1", which is as close to the military vehicle as any of them come. The H2 and H3 however... those are just overpriced, crap SUVs.
@Ariana321 "The H2 and H3 however... those are just overpriced, crap SUVs."
Exactly!
H1 is more "Spartan" vehicle. Like original Wrangler or like Land Rover Defender or even like Russian Niva. Nothing fancy, no luxuries. But everything for extreme off road.
Other than its ability to climb vertically, the Humvee's mobility is generally worse than its competitors. But in terms of adaptability, none of the others listed here can really compare to the Humvee, according to my knowledge, at least. The Vodnik's modules are really big; itself too big, and there aren't as many modules available as the Humvee does.
I am waiting to see if the Hawkei will be as versatile, the VAMTAC and Sherpa too.
@MingGuoLi I don't know about the others, but I have seen some humvees go through hell and back.
I have seen them flying over trenches, driving over boulders, even flipping to name a few and it was still good. It's a hell of a vehicle and unless it's weighed down with Frag 6 armor it is generally great.
@franknbeans4761 I don't question the Humvee's durability either. I am sure it will work after a flip. But what I question is its mobility, compared to G-wagons, Land Rovers, Pinzgauers, etc. The Pinzgauer doesn't have the same durability but I have seen it and Land Rovers go over obstacles I haven't seen Humvees go though, one being swamps the other being loose sand.
@franknbeans4761 That's not the point. Water isn't mud. As a land vehicle, it is wheel traction that matters. Water lets you sink to the bottom of the river where the humvee can grip the rocks; mud doesn't let you sink into anything substantial and so your wheels lose traction.
@snipermakedonski In sake of modular design and amphibious capabilities Vodnik has totally flat belly, which is not good for anti-mine protection.
Vodnik has no exhaust and noise inside passenger compartment is very loud to extend that commander can't speak with driver or it can't speak on radio.
@BitnikGr The vehicles in the videos are all common off-roaders, none of them is an MRAP, so you can't really hold the flat belly against one of them, when they all have it.
About the quality of the ride (noise, either bad air or blowing wind inside the cabin, bumpiness)... eastern arms manufacturers are not really known for caring about comfort of the operators.
@BusterXXXL 1) Comparing Vodnik to other army cars its flat belly can't be changed, because of modular design I guess. Humwee, Turkish Cobra, Italian Iveco, Russian Volk and Tigr all have anti-mine belly. I don't know really if something can be done in order to improve this in Vodnik.
2) Comfort and functionality is not the same thing. When commander can't be heard or if he can't speak on radio because of noise is a problem. I guess this problem sure can be solved easier.
okay bitnik the USA are not the best in all things, but this venoe delo is russian propaganda!

Oh well, competition keeps technology moving forward, lol.

"and it doesn't plan to retire soon" about Pinzgauer, actually production stopped in 2007!
Jubuthehunt 1 month ago
@Jubuthehunt Stop of production doesn't mean retirement from service.
According to other sources it was yet in production in 2009.

This is vid from 2005. Since then Russia already developed 2 or 3 new armored off-roaders and one of them is Tigr other Volk

@MingGuoLi Well, that being so, watch this video:
watch?v=j7gZ28Msa8g
It was completely submerged, driving on a river bottom.
I would say it's pretty all terrain.

@MingGuoLi True, but I think it's safe to assume that was very muddy and had swamp like conditions.
watch?v=5oLXGEJZGGI
And that appeared pretty muddy. In general though, the Humvee in the first video wasn't floating in anyway and it appeared very muddy.
But I can let you dig around (no pun intended) and search for some clips. From what I have seen it's pretty mobile.

soo i get it like the vodnik is the awsome version of both the hummer and the other one! its a swimming armored bathtub!!
