You explain that you are using heads, but the first thing you do after the first head is draw a line for the figure to follow, but dont really explain what it is for, then after drawing 7 heads for normal human proportion, you end up drawing mickey mouse, so we don't really get to see (though it would probably be in another of your videos) how to go from the heads to the human actual form.
1:02 I started laughing when he mentioned the two & a half heads. I'm taking a Life Drawing class, but I need 2 get better w/ proportions & values ='(
just practice, practice, practice. i promise practice really helps, i would know because (not to brag or anything) im a high school student, and i draw better that alot of college and even proffesional artists. trust me, my sister was always so much better than me, and i wanted to give up. get a sketchbook, and just keep on practicing cause its the only way you'll get even better than you already are :)
i just graduated high school actually, but i dont know it just feels like theres always something to improve apon, and yeah ive been through many sketchbooks, its rough, but yeah, you are right there is a ton of practice involved
your really informative.. but funny too! I like this video. I'm trying to learn how to do figure drawing myself, as all I mostly can do is "xerox eye drawing" I can draw what I see haha.. anyways, i'm checking out the rest of your vids!
Aweome dude. I'm definetly planning on taking this course. Hey by the way are familiar with Michael Menter's work. One of his videos is the top link in the 'related videos' section.

jklolbrbjk 1 year ago

Great tutorial... however?
You say a human figure is 7.5 heads tall..
(1 for the head from the start)
1 head down to sternum
1 head down to naval
1 head down to pubic arch
1.5 to the knee
1.5 to the bottom of the foot.
That's 7, not 7 and a half. =P

Ideal or classical male figure is 8 heads tall and about 2 and 1/3 or 1/2 wide at the shoulders. Break down of height is;
8-7 cranium - chin,
7-6 chin - bottom of chest,
6-5 chest - naval,
5-4 naval - pubic bone,
4-3-2 gets you to the bottom of knee
2-1-0 bottom of knee to the floor.
Normal/average guy is 7.5 (shorter in the legs) superhero is 9.
