This song was recorded by the golden gate quartet in New York on the third of december 1941-
I don't know on which record it came out first, but you can find it also on the excellent gospel compilation "A warrior on the battlefield, trail blazers 1920s-1940s" on Rounder cds.
Well, thank you to all three of you for confusing me even more *lol* :D
I don't think it was Leadbelly, as far as I know he didn't sing much Spirituals or religious songs.
About The Golden Gate Quartet & Ebony Brass Quintet I have to research. But song, especially in those days (like today, too) were covered over & over by different singers/groups.
So, maybe it's both, but I am particularly looking for the performer of this piece here.
can you put the lyrics?please it's amazing

Check out The Welcome Wagon. They have a version of this that's pretty cool too.

I know this particular recording (actually, the LP is somewhere on my shelf). Definitely Golden Gate Quartet with Orlandus Wilson.

Leadbelly has a version for sure but it is not this one. Don't sounds to me like Golden Quartet but I'm not expert on them :)
