  • Everyone seems so civilized back then. Wonderful song.

  • My mom, who was born in 1932, had Trini Lopez records.

  • I did notknow mickey jones was a drummer for trini Lopez or for anyone else. he is a very good actor.

  • @radiowwww

Mickey also made a very good commercial for "Breathsavers", that clip is on YouTube, look it up. Mickey is a "neighbor" (sort of) of mine, as he lives close by. He autographed my daughter's cymbal and met me at a local burger joint where he signed my copy of his book. A real nice guy. Very generous with his time when it comes to charity work and the various causes he supports.

  • @kb6kgx

Mickey also played for Johnny Rivers, and is the drummer you hear on "Secret Agent Man", among others, and later with Kenny Rogers and The First Edition for about ten years.

  • The bass player is one hot man!

  • Soybeancandles:

I didn't mean to sound insulting or infer that she was pretty then and old and ugly today. I'm sure both her and you are still as beautiful as ever.

  • @MISSZOEPARKER NOT RITA PAVONE SONG SHE RECORDED THE SONG IN ITALIAN TRINI LOPEZ RECORDED THE SONG IN ENGLISH PET SEEGER AND LEE HAYS WRITTEN THE SONG TRINI LOPEZ SOLD OVER 1 MILLION COPIES AND WAS AWARDED A GOLD DISC.

  • IT'S A RITA PAVONE'S SONG: DATEMI UN MARTELLO

  • 05697

No, I have no clue on the aging process nor have I never seen anyone grow old.

I think you know what I meant professor.

  • The girl in 1:26. So cute. Hard to believe she's in her late 60's now.

  • @kirwinjd

why hard to believe? everyone gets older every second of every day. ageing starts immediately after conception. you understand this basic point of human existence?

  • @055697 In fact you´re thesis wrong,. What got conception to do with that? Is an unborn child immortal? You start dying when your cell "splited" the first time. Besides you can say you are aging when you´ve reached the point where the cell metobalism (adoloszens and seneszens) is reaching a negative sum, meaning you start aging around 30 years. There are many more thesis about aging. But this is not the space to debate this.

  • @kirwinjd old age will catch up to all of us :)

  • @Gabriel1o1 nope. Not if you die young.

  • @tomdewilde1 Sadly so

  • @kirwinjd she probly still fucks like a rattle snake mate,,try and track her down

  • @kirwinjd i know what u mean i always wonder wld anybody else notice how beautiful she look for back then

  • @maryladams79 lol are you saying people were ugly back in the 60's?

  • @TerrorMellon of course not i was born in the 60s

  • @kirwinjd what why is that hard to believe...

  • @kirwinjd Hush your mouth...that's my age too! I think I still look damm good!

  • Love this! Thank you!

  • Still have this 7'' single, was my DAD'S so how can you go wrong, totally fab song...xxx

  • WAY BETTER than the folk versions ... This destroyed Pete seeger's

  • goal of 1000 people....starting with your subscribers....if the hammer falls....

  • I. Love. This. Song. so. Freaking. much.

  • Trini is one of the best rythm guitarist around.

It sounds simple, but if you try to play along you realize how good he is.

The great feeling he put's in the strum is infectious.

  • He's no Debbie Reynolds.

  • I don't know if anyone has posted this earlier, but the liner notes in the Hootenanny 3 dvd set say that the back up guitarist is Glenn Campbell, not Dick Brandt. Just passing that along.

  • @MrUtes1

No. Not in this video clip. That is clearly not Glen Campbell, who, far as I know, never played bass. Campbell may have played backup guitar on the album in general, but I really don't know that, either. In this video, though, the bass player is definitely not Glen Campbell.

  • @kb6kgx

Hmmmm... looked it up. Sure DOES say it's Glen Campbell... here's what I found on "Amazon" and "TVParty" regarding these liner notes:

"Glen Campbell was the staff Bass player in case a folk group didn't have one..."

But it doesn't LOOK like him. Gonna have to ask Mickey.

  • @kb6kgx Well, all I said is that this was what the liner notes to the Hootenanny dvd set said. The liner notes said that it was Glenn Campbell. I just passed along the information. If you choose not to believe that, that is up to you. Personally speaking, I can only go by what the liner notes said.

  • @MrUtes1 OK, here’s the REAL scoop, straight from Mickey Jones:

"Jack Brandt played upright bass on our first album at PJs and he played on 'If I had a Hammer'. All that about Glen being a staff bass player is nonsense. That never happened. Glen was a studio guitar player and did go on the road for a short time as the bass player with the Beach Boys The bass player in the Hootenanny clip was David Shriver."

  • nothing like classics & coffee on a sunday morning

  • Oh Man!! Look at that tonemaster!!!!!!

  • That bell is like sex

  • haaaa good ole music:)

  • I prefer this one over the folk version.

  • I wonder how many of those UCLA male students were drafted within two years of this telecast?

  • 27 people have no sense of good music...

  • Trini is gangsta! I fux wit him... no homo, tho. #GsUp

  • i've been listening to this since 1984 when i was 5 yrs old.. brings back old memories..

  • @cjpatz Yeah we had the 45 laying around the house.

We used to play it and all the kids would sing along.

I guess it was around 1967. Just going into high school.

When I hear it I always sing along OOOO!

some indonesian singer took this song and brag about how rich he is,,

  • GREAT SUCCESS GREAT TRINI LOPEZ.

  • The Bass player is erroniously listed as Dick Brant but it is in fact David Shriver, who was Trini's bassist for over 12 years and toured extensively with the Beatles and appeared with Trini on the Ed Sullivan Show.

  • The clapping is fine, mate, in England it's a different matter though, anyway let's just enjoy this often copied CLASSIC by Mr. Lopez.

  • just great in every way

  • THIS is Music!! Trini Lopez's "I've Had A Hammer" was undeniably the 2nd best

version,as to Peter,Paul, and Mary's first version-they are still superior in any event!

  • a GREAT version of this song and Trini plays a mean guitar.....LOVE it!!....thanks for posting this classic gem

  • what a beat!!!!!

  • what guitar is he using

  • @DominikGintowt let me know if you find out

  • @ivanleed I found out... it's a Gibson Barney Kessel or something along the lines of that... Just type that in on Google or Google Images and you should find a guitar that bears relevancy to the one that is being used in this video.

  • nice music!

  • Too cool, Trini tearin' it up on Hootenanny! nycretroguy are you sure the bass player was Dick Brant? He sure looks like Trini's regular bass player at that time: One Mr. David Shriver, regardless, thanks for the upload!

  • Trini was “smoked” out of the spectacle world, because he sung “This land is your land”. Search for it n you will understand me.

Let’s be specific: we r being forced to hate Hispanics, as a diversion.

If we hate, we hate Muslims, Hispanics, Handicapped, u name it! Absurd! Stop it! Fight against it!

How is't possible, that being so powerful, so “warriors” as we r, so loaded of weaponry, spies, wealth, n “know how”, are we Americans getting so polarized by religion?

    We r divided…n Conquered!

  • hartmut reul singt besser

  • M.C. Hammer = Motorcycle Club Hammer...sounds shared by a lot of dudes! Aniway, Trini was cool back in American days when everybody had hits and made a lot of money!

I am Mexican by the way....Hahaha!!

  • They're so white they don't even realize it's about puttin' roofin' on their house! Ha! But seriously... He's Mexican and singin' about hammerin'.... How ironic is that?!! I love him though... I'm just pointin' out facts... He made white people try to have a rhythm! Props! I have his vinyl.

  • @anothersignupyay it's some sort of tool, that you need for driving a nail home.

  • @anothersignupyay Hammer, its a complete nonsense song.

  • @Qazqazman128 .....Literally? How lame. I was expecting something much more in the lyrics.

  • LIterally ? Brains evade you.

  • @anothersignupyay He's singing about the meat in his pants.

  • 21 people don't have hammers!

  • @Qazqazman128 hahahaha best comeback ever for the number of dislikes

  • ¿y quien es este?

  • I believe that is David Shriver on bass. He played on Trini's first several albums and also is famous for playing with Eddie Cochran during his last couple of years before going to England where he died.

  • @Rotis59 You are correct sir, David Shriver in the flesh and the drummer was Mickey Jones when he was a somewhat younger and more regular man! He went on to play with many folks and eventually became a fairly respctable character actor! With Trini they were a tight trio!

  • Great song, great performance, great audience, great school, UCLA 1962.

I bet some of these fellas got some trim that night. Thanks, Trini.

  • it spoils it with a thick audience and there out of sync clapping i say for fucks sake shut up!

  • @StevenCarinci your nuts there is no communism in this song ADOLPH

  • @BaRd3L2 "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" is a song written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays. It was written in 1949 in support of the progressive movement." Close enough.

  • i love this song, it`s so cute! gonna play it for the lovely girls

  • Thumbs up if you discovered this song on public television.

  • And then they all died in Vietnam.

  • a crowd of proto-hippies,awesome

  • richard nixon on bass, johnny cash on guitar. ahhahaha.

  • Just saw this clip on "John Sebastian's Folk Rewind." I thought that Lopez gave this one show biz schmaltz, which I didn't like; then Sebastian pointed out in the above special that he gave it a Latin flavor. Good point. So now I'll just say he gave it schmalza.

  • Anyone knows the guitar chords for this song please ?

  • Excellent!

Thank you for sharing this title.

French version by: "Claude François"to "Surf" Band."Si j'avais un marteau".

    Regards

  • To PomyCollingwood : For the record, "If I Had a Hammer" was written by the great Pete Seeger. It is one of this country's seminal protest songs... by-the-by.
